CONTRIBUTOR IN MEMORY OF CONTRIBUTOR IN MEMORY OF

The Fair View Foundation gratefully acknowledges those who have generously contributedto the preservation, maintenance and beautification programs

to preserve Fair View Cemetery for future generations.

Plans for New Building Delayed

In 2005, Fair View announced plans to construct anew equipment, maintenance and storage building toreplace the 1900 barn, which no longer meets the needfor security and proper care of cemetery equipment.

Contributions earmarked for the $50,000 projectwere insufficient to undertake construction, thus thedelay. Fundraising efforts will continue and added to thefunds allocated by givers’ for the much-needed facility.

Given the deteriorated condition of the barn, it hasbeen necessary to rent portable trailers for safe storageof graveside and other small equipment.

If you would like to make a tax-deductiblecontribution toward this critical need, please call540.344-4263.

The “barn” has served Fair View since the early 1900sand once stabled the horses that worked the grounds.

Its deteriorated condition is unsafe for thegrounds staff, as well as providing little security

for recently purchased equipment.

Mayor of “Big Lick”and Griggs Family Prominentin History at Fair View

Samuel Griggs, Mayor of Big Lick fromJuly 1, 1876 to June 30, 1878, had11 children including Bruce E. Griggswho served as president of Fair ViewCemetery from 1916-1952. A descendantof the family recently provided this phototo our Walk Through History Museum.

Left to right, front row: Robert Byron, SusieGriggs Woodson, Samuel, and Marcus, andMarshall. Back row: Bruce, Lula Griggs Good,C. Price, William, Tolar, Annie and Otho.

We welcome groups for a tour of the Cemetery. It is one waywe try to provide a sense of history and the importance ofpreserving these historic grounds for future generations.

Experienced Family ServiceCounselor Joins Fair View Staff

Mike McCulley knew a long time ago that servingfamilies during the most difficult of times was a “uniqueopportunity to provide kindness and encouragement”.

He brings to Fair View Cemetery years of experienceas a Family Service Counselor with Alleghany MemorialPark in Covington.

Mike assists with arrangements, and provides acondolence call after the service to deliver paperwork, make sure needs have been met, provide comfortinggrief brochures, and complete important historical data.

He views one of his most important roles as workingwith pre-need arrangements to lessen the burden at thestressful time when a loved one has passed away.
