Clean water despite being a basic human need, remains inadequate especially considering that the natural sources (Rainfall and Rivers) have increasingly become unreliable for the obvious reason of climate changes occasioned mainly by environmental degradation.

WATER DRILLING PROCESS

The process starts with a Hydro-geological Survey in order to determine the availability of water or otherwise, followed by an Environmental Impact Study on a duly registered land (Title Deed Mandatory).This entails a study of the rock formation to ensure that there is enough water by detecting underground aquifers to justify the drilling, as well as obtain a permit from the relevant government agencies. Once this is done, a permit is obtained and the drilling work may then commence.The drilling involves the mobilizing and setting of the Rig which may either be Rotary Air Compression or Cable Tool Percussion. However the most modern and the method of choice is the Rotary Air Percussion as it is fast and convenient unless where the formations are loose and likely to be problematic with the compression process.Once there, we erect the mast, and ensure that the machine is set upright. This guarantees a straight penetration of the ground. The initial process involves the use of a rotary drill, which rotates the bit, pressing it into the ground to begin the drilling process. The rotary head exerts pressure on the bit, pushing the same deeper and deeper until maximum depth is reached, (on average, the boreholes in Kenya range in depth from about 100 meters (328Ft) to about 400Meters (1,312Ft) depending on the locality and the geological specifics of the region).Once water has been struck, we then supply and insert the casing, which basically is a steel or PVC rim that supports the borehole walls, and thereby making sure that they do not collapse or cave into the well. The casing sizes vary depending on the diameter of the hole.We then gravel pack the well with appropriate filtering grains so that the water is free of particles. A raised slab is build to ensure that any surface water does not trickle into the well.The next step involves developing and testing of the borehole, to achieve the maximum yield of the well. To do this, we have portable pumps, accessories and generators that are installed in the borehole to continuously pump water for a sustained period of about 24-hours. A sample of the water (normally 5 litres), is then collected and taken to a competent Laboratory for testing and establishment of the chemical composition and approval for human consumption accordingly.

We are able to offer the Costing as a package i.e. Inclusive of a Hydro-geological Survey, Environmental Impact Study, the Permit and Drilling costs or as per client’s requirement. The costs may vary depending on the anticipated formations of any particular area. Subject to Credit Appraisal, we consider offering “Soft Terms of Payment” when a client is unable to afford the Total Cost in full; we still complete and commission the borehole on acceptable terms of payment.
