FROM YOUR PASTOR’S PEN

HOW DO I KNOW IF I AM BEING CALLED TO SERVE ON THE PASTORAL COUNCIL?

This weekend, April 16/17, the parish community will be seeking nominations for the Pastoral Council. Here are some questions and information nominees need to consider!

Do you have a deep love for the parish? Are you being called to serve the parish in this way?

As a baptized Catholic, we are all “called” to serve Christ and the Church. Each of us is responsible to listen and respond to that call. So how do you recognize if you are being called to be part of the Pastoral Council?

Sometimes you hear the call very plainly in prayer. At other times, you may hear the call voiced by others. (“I think you would do well on our Pastoral Council.”) Or maybe you can see yourself more active in the parish, and this would be a natural extension of your service to the parish. Perhaps you see the need, and see yourself as capable of being of service at this time. (“If not me, who? If not now, when?”)

The Pastoral Council needs to reflect “diversity”. Single & married adults, the elderly, young adults, school & faith formation parents, minorities, charter & new parish members, etc., all need representation on the council. Whose concerns and needs could you represent?

Prayerfully consider how you would like to respond to God’s call. Do you have any of these characteristics---ability to collaborate, deep love for the parish & its mission, a willing-ness to grow in holiness, the desire to serve, a broad vision, willingness to learn, and a sense of stewardship?

The confidence needed to respond to this call is given as a gift from the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit provides the courage we need, if we only call upon that Spirit.

Trust the Spirit! Fr. Ralph

QUALITIES FOR PASTORAL COUNCIL MEMBERS

Some of the characteristics helpful to this ministry are listed here. (Realize that no one comes in the door fully able to see themselves as parish leaders.)

Year of Mercy: Parish Ministries that Comfort the Afflicted

PERU: During the month of April we will be collecting canes, non prescription reader glasses and used but usable prescription glasses for our brothers and sisters in Peru. These items will be transported to Peru with the Medical Mission in June or shipped this summer. This collection coincides with April's Mercy focus to comfort the afflicted. Please leave these items in the large suitcase near the fireplace in the Gathering Space. Deb Passino is happy to tell you more about this ministry! (262-506-4782, [email protected]).

HOME COMMUNION: If you know someone who would like to have Communion brought to their home, please let the parish office know. Please contact Sara Drolet if you would like to be part of this ministry bringing the Eucharist to the homebound or hospitalized. (262-982-6020, [email protected])

PRAY the ROSARY WITH RESIDENTS at LindenGrove: We welcome your participation every Wednesday at 9:00 AM. Chris Yehle is happy to answer your questions about this ministry. (414-940-0057, [email protected])

Mt. MERU COFFEE: Your support encourages economic and social Justice - empowering the small coffee farmer and the people of the Meru region with the capacity to improve their standard of living. Your ongoing purchase and consumption of Mt. Meru Tanzanian Coffee is the single most important way in which you can support thousands of small family farmers in Tanzania. Doing Justice Never Tasted So Good! There is a self-serve cart in the Gathering Space. Brenda Neumann or Jeff Krumrich can be contacted for more information: ([email protected] or [email protected])

Cemetery Spring Cleanup

The cemetery cleanup will be on April 16th this year. We will use

April 23rd as a rain date. Please come and join this effort to

beautify our cemetery. Bring a leaf rake or garden rake and with your help, we will put the cemetery in great shape for the summer.

We could also use shovels, leaf blowers and

don’t forget your gloves.

Please meet at the cemetery, 8:00am til noon.

Please call Roger Varner at 414-322-7074 for

more information.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Coffee and donuts will be available.

PARISH BREAKFAST Join us in the cafeteria after Sunday masses on April 24th for a light breakfast of eggs, sausage, rolls, donuts, and coffee, juice or milk. Stop and get to know other parishioners while enjoying your breakfast.

Donations are accepted.

Life’s Connection Thank You

Dear St. Paul Parishioners,

Thank you so much for hosting a baby bottle fundraiser for Life’s Connection this year! All together you have raised $5075 for the struggling families in our community. Your donations help purchase diapers, car seats, and pack n’ plays, as well as fund our life-affirming ultrasound program, and educa-tional courses. You are helping us to build stronger families in our community, and we are so grateful for you support!

At the beginning of the month a mother was able to choose life because she found hope and loving support after coming into our center, she sighed a huge sigh of relief and said, “I’m starting to feel excited now and not as nervous!”

Thank you for being the heart of Christ so that we can be the hands of Christ!

Thank you, St. Paul Parishioners, for stopping by after mass last month to sign a card - that mercy action was a blessing. We received a call from a volunteer who delivered our Easter cards to the imprisoned in Waukesha. He indicated they'd never gotten such a nice response and that it meant a lot to the individuals who received the cards!

Information about this Waukesha ministry can be found at http://stvincentwaukeshacounty.org/jail-ministry/

Junior Achievement The 8th grade class has been working for the past few months with Mr. Brady on the Junior Achievement program. Students were assigned different job opportunities and given 'paychecks' in order to learn how to budget money, pay taxes, and learn life skills. During this time, they also played the stock market game where they learned how the stock market works in the real world. Based on their 'earnings' throughout the past few months, they were able to bid on prizes during their last class. Thank you to Mr. Brady for all of his hard work on the Junior Achievement Program and teaching our 8th grade students im-portant life skills.

Jesus, Divine Master, who said: “The harvest indeed is great, but the laborers are few.” We lovingly accept your invitation: “Pray the heavenly Father to send forth laborers into his harvest.” Inspire a crusade for vocations. More Priests! May they be the salt of the earth, the light of the world, the city placed on the mountaintop for the salvation of mankind redeemed by your blood. More Religious! Both men and women, to promote the glory of God and the peace of men of good will. May the earth be filled with seminaries and religious houses. O Mary, God’s chosen one, mother and guardian of Holy vocations, pray with us, pray for us, and for all those called by God. Amen.
