CALL TO WORSHIP Tom Weaver Leader: God is our strength and shield; People: Therefore, we will sing with great joy! Leader: Let us lift up the name of the Lord; People: And rejoice for God hears our prayers! Leader: This is the day that the Lord has made; People: Let us all rejoice and be glad in it! OPENING PRAYER Debbie Lennis *PROCESSIONAL HYMN NO. 66 “To God Be the Glory” ++++ CHORAL ANTHEM “For the Beauty of the Earth” Rutter The Chancel Choir CALL TO CONFESSION Rev. M. Douglas Campbell

To be invited into the practice of confession is to be invited into the possibility of reconciliation that is available through the grace of God. To participate in the prayer of confession is to admit the truth that all is not right, and that we need God to make it right. Trusting in God’s grace and love, let us make our confession before God.

PRAYER OF CONFESSION

Holy God, we stand in need of your love and grace. We confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done, and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart and mind and strength. We have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. In your mercy forgive what we have been, help us amend what we are, and direct what we shall be, so that we may delight in your will and walk in your ways, to the glory of your holy name. (silence for personal confession)

RESPONSIVE SONG NO. 471 “ As the Deer” (verse 1) As the deer pants for the water, so my soul longs after you; you alone are my heart’s desire and I long to worship you. You alone are my strength and shield; to you alone may my spirit yield. You alone are my heart’s desire, and I long to worship you.

ASSURANCE OF PARDON Leader: Friends, let us affirm the good news of the gospel: People: In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven. Alleluia! Amen. THE PEACE

Leader: Since God has forgiven us in Christ, let us forgive one another. The peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all.

People: And also with you. *Please greet one another by exchanging the Peace of Christ PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION

Overwhelm us with your Holy Spirit, O God, that the words we hear will speak to our hearts as your Word made known to us in Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

FIRST SCRIPTURE LESSON: John 15:4-8 Hannah Campbell 4 Abide in me as I abide in you. Just as the branch cannot bear fruit by itself unless it abides in the vine, neither can you unless you abide in me. 5 I am the vine, you are the branches. Those who abide in me and I in them bear much fruit, because apart from me you can do nothing. 6 Whoever does not abide in me is thrown away like a branch and withers; such branches are gathered, thrown into the fire, and burned. 7 If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask for whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. 8 My Father is glorified by this, that you bear much fruit and become my disciples. SECOND SCRIPTURE LESSON: John 1: 9-14 Sarah Campbell 9 The true light, which enlightens everyone, was coming into the world. 10 He was in the world, and the world came into being through him; yet the world did not know him. 11 He came to what was his own, and his own people did not accept him. 12 But to all who received him, who believed in his name, he gave power to become children of God, 13 who were born, not of blood or of the will of the flesh or of the will of man, but of God. 14 And the Word became flesh and lived among us, and we have seen his glory, the glory as of a father’s only son, full of grace and truth. SERMON “Dance with the One That Brung You” Dr. William G. McCoy

PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE Ruth Azar THE LORD’S PRAYER Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom

come, thy will be done, on earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.

CALL TO OFFERING Debbie Lennis OFFERING OUR GIFTS TO GOD

Our giving is an offering to God. This afternoon the offering collected will be given to the Presbytery of Detroit’s Committee on Preparation for Ministry for their Theological Education Fund which helps to support individuals in the ordination process.

OFFERTORY “The Majesty and Glory of Your Name” Fettke (A musical setting of Psalm 8) Chancel Choir *DOXOLOGY NO. 34 Praise God from whom all blessings flow; praise him all creatures

here below; praise him above, ye heavenly host: praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.

*PRAYER OF DEDICATION *SONG OF RESPONSE NO. 350 “The Summons” ++++ WELCOME FROM THE PRESBYTERY Moderator Rev. Julie Delezenne A RESPONSIVE LITANY OF GIFTS Ruth Azar

As in one body we have many parts and each part has its own function, so all of us together with Christ are one body, and we all belong to each other. We have different gifts according to the grace that God has given us. If your gift is to share God’s Word, Speak it out in faith. If your gift is service, Live to serve others. If your gift is the heart of a teacher, Teach what is true. Let preachers preach with conviction and givers give generously Let officers work diligently for the people, And let those who serve the poor, serve gladly. Let us not lack for enthusiasm, but be ardent in spirit, serving the Lord, rejoicing in hope, patient in suffering, constant in prayer, supporting one another, and welcoming all.

STATEMENT ON THE MINISTRY OF THE CHURCH Rev. Jim Russell We are called out by God to be the Church of Jesus Christ, A sign in the world today of the new life that God intends for all. In our life together, we are to display the new reality That sin is forgiven, reconciliation accomplished, And the dividing walls of hostility torn down. As the living body of Christ, the church is called To proclaim the good news of salvation, To present the claims of the gospel on people’s lives, And to demonstrate Christ’s love in service to the world. We are called to undertake this mission even at the risk of life, Trusting God in all things. In faith we embrace a new openness to what God is doing in our time, A renewed obedience to our Lord Jesus Christ, And a new joy in our common worship and work. Today we reclaim our historic calling And remember the great ends of the church: The proclamation of the gospel for the salvation of humankind; The shelter, nurture, and spiritual fellowship of the children of God; The maintenance of divine worship; The preservation of the truth; The promotion of social righteousness; And the exhibition of the Kingdom of Heaven to the world. The ministry of the church is shared by pastor and people, So that all together may fulfill the mission To which we are called in Jesus Christ. The particular responsibility of the ministry of Word and Sacrament is to build up the church and serve the people of God, so that the Word may be rightly proclaimed and the sacraments rightly celebrated. The call to this ministry has been extended by the congregation, accepted by the candidate, and approved by the presbytery. Therefore, the Presbytery of Detroit, by means of this commission, now installs Emily Riley Campbell as Senior Pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Plymouth. In her baptism, Emily was clothed with Christ. She was ordained to the ministry of Word and Sacrament by the Presbytery of Pittsburgh and is now called by God through the voice of the church to serve as pastor of this congregation. We remember with joy our common calling to serve Christ, and we celebrate God’s call to our sister to serve among us as pastor.

CONSTITUTIONAL QUESTIONS Moderator Rev. Julie Delezenne Do you trust in Jesus Christ as your Savior, acknowledge him Lord of all and Head of

the church, and through him believe in one God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit? Do you accept the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments to be, by the Holy Spirit,

the unique and authoritative witness to Jesus Christ in the church universal, and God’s Word to you?

Do you sincerely receive and adopt the essential tenets of the Reformed faith as

expressed in the confessions of our church as authentic and reliable expositions of what Scripture leads us to believe and do, and will you be instructed and led by those confessions as you lead the people of God?

Will you fulfill your ministry in obedience to Jesus Christ, under the authority of Scripture, and be continually guided by our confessions?

Will you be governed by our church’s polity, and will you abide by its discipline? Will

you be a friend among your colleagues in ministry, working with them, subject to the ordering of God’s Word and Spirit?

Will you in your own life seek to follow the Lord Jesus Christ, love your neighbors,

and work for the reconciliation of the world? Do you promise to further the peace, unity, and purity of the church? Will you pray for and seek to serve the people with energy, intelligence, imagination

and love? Will you be a faithful teaching elder, proclaiming the good news in Word and

Sacrament, teaching faith and caring for people? Will you be active in government and discipline, serving in the councils of the church; and in your ministry will you try to show the love and justice of Jesus Christ?

QUESTIONS TO THE CONGREGATION Tom Weaver Elder: Do we, the members of the church, accept Emily Riley Campbell as our Senior

Pastor, chosen by God through the voice of this congregation to guide us in the way of Jesus Christ? We do.

Do we agree to pray for her, to encourage her, to respect her decisions, and to follow

as she guides us, serving Jesus Christ, who alone is Head of the Church? We do. Do we promise to pay her fairly and provide for her welfare as she works among us;

to stand by her in trouble and share her joys? Will we listen to the word she preaches, welcome her pastoral care, and honor her authority as she seeks to honor and obey Jesus Christ our Lord? We do and we will.

Greetings Friends in Christ! I am so very happy for all of you today as you celebrate the Installation of The Reverend Emily Campbell as the Senior Pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Plymouth. As you move into this new relationship together, remember that Emily has been sent from God to serve as your shepherd. May you continue to cherish and nurture one another in the name of our amazing Savior Jesus. My prayer for you today and every day is that you continue to share your joy in ministry with each other, because joy shared is joy multiplied. God Bless your ministry and mission, and always remember that many of us pray for you each day. With Love,

Anne Schaefer

A letter from Interim Senior Minister Rev. Anne Schaefer...

Irene and I wish to extend our congratulations to both Emily and the whole of the Church family in Plymouth. As we reflect on the past, and you prepare for the future, I am reminded that our vision statement, which recognizes “An ever changing community and world,” has stood the test of time through a period of rapid change. We know that every challenge is the prelude to new opportunities, and in that spirit, we echo the Psalmist to “Sing a new Song in a New Land.” So, to one and all, may God’s richest blessing be with each and every one of you. In Christ,

Jim and Irene Skimins

A letter from Pastor Emeritus Rev. Dr. Jim Skimins...
