PREAMBLE
Inthe2ndFacultyCouncilMeetingofAcademicYear2016-17,heldonMarch27,2017,itwasdecided to undertake a comprehensive review of the Fellow Programs at IIM Raipur. Inpursuance of the same, a FPM Review Committee was constituted by the Director videCircularNo. IIMRaipur/Dir./2017-18/15on4thApril,2017.FollowingweretheconstituentmembersoftheFPMReviewCommittee:

The FPM Review committee deliberated based on the FPMmanuals of various IIMs andsubmitted its recommendations to the faculty council. The recommendationsof the FPMReviewcommitteewerediscussedand finalized in the4th FacultyCouncilMeetingof theAcademicYear2016-17,heldon2ndMay,2017.Thismanualisanoutcomeofthediscussionduringthemeeting.Whilethismanual iscompletelyapplicabletoFPMbatches2017andbeyond,thismanualsupersedestheexistingFPMManualsdependinguponthestageastudentisinhis/herFPMProgram.Thetablebelowpresentsthematrixregardingtheapplicabilityofrulestopreviousbatches.TheyearinthetableindicatesthestartyearofaparticularFPMbatch.

INTRODUCTIONProgramObjectivesIIMRaipurstartedtheFellowProgrammeinManagement(FPM)fromacademicyear2012-13.FPMisafull-timedoctoralprogrammethatoffersstudentsopportunitiesforadvancedstudiesandresearch indifferentareasof‘management’.TheProgrammeaimstopreparestudents forcareers inteachingandresearch inmanagementstudies and in related disciplines, and for careers in other organizations that require advanced analytical andresearchcapabilities.Theprogramprovidesstudentswithnecessaryskillstoidentifyandresearchcomplexissuesinthefieldofmanagementanddisseminatetheirfindingsintopublicationsofinternationalstandards.FollowingareasofspecializationareavailableatIIMRaipur:

ProgramStructureThefellowprogrammeatIIMRaipurhasthefollowingfourcomponents:

MandatoryCourseWorkDuring first year of the programme the students acquire knowledge of the discipline and functional areas ofmanagement and generalmanagement. The FPM students, irrespective of their area of specialization, take acompulsorysetofcoursesinthefirstyear.Attheendofthefirstyear,theyundergoasummerplacement/summerresearchassignmentundertheadvice/guidanceofhis/herAcademicAdvisor.TheFPMstudentswhoalreadyhaveaone/two/three-yearfull-timeclassroombasedPGDM/PGPfromanyoftheIIMsorMBA from IITsorMBA /PGDMfromUniversities / Instituteswith International accreditationwouldbeexemptedfromthefirstyearcourseworkincludingthesummerworkprovidedtheyhaveobtainedaminimumCGPAof6ona10-pointscaleoranequivalent3.0in4.0-pointscaleandthecorrespondinglettergrade`B’.Theywilldirectlyenterintothesecondyear.However,theywillhavetotaketheFPMcompulsorycourses(offeredinthefirstyear)alongwiththeirsecondyearcoursework.Inaddition,thesentientareamayrecommendadditionalfirstyearcoursesforFPMcandidatesintheexemptedcategory,ifareamembersfeelthatthecandidate(s)requiresadditionalinputsinthecorediscipline.Duringsecondyearoftheprogrammethestudentsacquirein-depthknowledgeoftheareaofspecializationandrelatedfields.Inaddition,studentstakethePGP/FPMelectivecourses,whicharespeciallydesignedtoprovideanin-depthunderstandingoftheareaoftheirresearchaswellastodevelopteachingskills.ComprehensiveExaminationOn completion of the second year course work, the student takes the comprehensive examination. Thecomprehensiveexaminationattheendofthe2ndyear,testswhetherthestudenthasobtainedasatisfactorylevelofknowledgeinhis/herfieldofspecializationandwhethers/hehassatisfactorilyintegratedthevariouscoursestakenbyhim/herinthearea.WhilethecourseworkformallygetsoverwiththecompletionofComprehensiveExamination, studentsareencouraged to continue takingadvancedcoursesof interesteven further into theirresearchwork.

ThesisProposalFormulationAfter passing the comprehensive examination, the student enters the thesis writing stage. The student firstdevelopsathesisproposal,forwhichs/heidentifiesaresearchtopic,identifiesthemembersoftheThesisAdvisoryCommittee(TAC),givesaseminaronthethesisproposaltoIIMRaipur’sacademiccommunity,andgetsthethesisproposalapprovedbytheTAC.ThesisSubmissionandDefenseOnapprovalof the thesisproposal, the studentworks closelywith theTAConhis/her thesiswork.When thecandidate’s supervisor judges that the thesis is complete, the studentgivesa seminaron the thesisworkandsubsequently defends the thesis orally before a thesis examination committee. The Chairperson (FellowProgrammes)appointsthethesisexaminationcommitteecomprisingthethesisadvisorandothermembers.ProgramDurationFPMisafulltimeresidentialprogramme.Thestudentisexpectedtocompletetheprogrammeinfouryears.Underspecialcircumstances,extensionmaybegrantedtothestudent.Inanycasetheentireprogramshouldfinishwithinsixyears.IfastudentfailstocompletetherequisiteacademicworksfortheFellowProgrammewithinthisspecifiedperiod, then s/hehas towithdraw from theprogramme. The student’s registrationwill be terminatedon thecompletionofsixyears.Students are not permitted to take up employment / outside assignment during the programme. If violated,suitabledisciplinaryactionincludingexpulsionfromtheprogrammewouldbeinitiatedbytheFPMCommittee.Incase,whereinthestudentlikestoextendhis/herstayforonemoreyearinordertocompletehis/herthesiswork,arequesthastobemadebythestudentthroughTACtotheChairperson(FellowProgrammes)foramaximumofonemoreyearofstay.TitleAftercompletionofall requirementsof theprogramme,thestudent isawardedthetitleof the“Fellowof theIndianInstituteofManagementRaipur”.OtherIssuesTherespectiveareasareresponsibleforthemonitoringoftheFPMstudentsenrolledinthearea.Thisincludesissues suchasperiodicperformanceappraisal, continuationof the fellowship, scholarship,andcomprehensiveexamination.Thedecisionof the institute (Director) inmattersof interpretationof the ruleswillbe finalandbindingonallconcerned.

ADMISSIONIIM Raipur’s Fellow Programme aims to admit individuals with exceptional academic background, strongmotivationanddiscipline,andpotentialtobecomeexcellentresearchersatinternationallevel.Itisexpectedthatstudentswillcomefromavarietyofdisciplinesrangingfromsocialsciencesandhumanitiestophysicalsciencesandengineering.Applicantsareevaluatedontheirpastacademicachievements,motivationandpreparationfortheprogramme,lettersofrecommendation,scoresonstandardtests,andapersonalinterviewwiththefaculty.EligibilityThe candidates for the programme must have one of the following qualifications obtained from any of theuniversities incorporatedbyanactof thecentralor state legislature in India,orothereducational institutionsestablishedbyanactofparliamentordeclaredtobedeemedasauniversityundersection3ofUGCAct,1956,orpossess an equivalent qualification recognizedby theMinistry ofHRD,Governmentof India, or an equivalentqualificationfromaninstitutionapprovedbyAICTE.
o AMaster’sdegreeoritsequivalentinanydisciplinewithminimum60%aggregatemarksorequivalentgradepointaverage
oro AnyprofessionalqualificationssuchasCA,ICWAandCSwithaminimum60%aggregatemarksor
equivalentgradepointaverageor
o ABachelor’sDegreeinEngineering(BE/BTech/BArch)with60%marksorequivalentgradepointaverageor
o Fiveyear/four-yearIntegratedMaster’sdegreeprogrammeinanydiscipline,withatleast60%aggregatemarks,obtainedaftercompletinghighersecondaryschooling(10+2)orequivalent.
Thosewhoareappearingfortheirfinalyearexaminationinthecurrentacademicyearmayalsoapply.However,theiradmissiontotheprogrammewillbeprovisionalsubjecttotheirsuccessfulcompletionofallrequirementsforobtainingtherelevantdegreebefore30thJune,2017. AgeLimitCandidatesmustnotbemorethan55yearsofageason1stJune,2017. SelectionProcessCandidateswhofulfiltheeligibilitycriteriaasstatedabovearerequiredtotakeCommonAdmissionTest(CAT)heldbytheIIMs.Alternatively,thosewhohavequalifiedGATE,GRE,GMATorJRF(UGC/CSIR)examinationscanalsoapplyintherelevantareaofspecialization.ScoresofanyoftheseexaminationsincludingCATtakenduringthelasttwoyears(i.e.,onorafter1stJuly,2015)willbeconsideredvalid.Candidateswhoalreadyhaveaone/two/three-yearfull-timeclassroombasedPGDM/PGPfromanyoftheIIMsorMBAfromIITsorMBA/PGDMfromUniversities/InstituteswithInternationalaccreditationwithaminimumCGPAof6.0ona10-pointscaleor3.0ona4.0-pointscaleandanequivalentlettergrade‘B’areexemptedfromthisrequirement,andcanapplydirectlythroughtheprescribedApplicationForm.The candidates short-listed on the basis of their academic record and performance in the competitiveexaminationsmentionedabovewillbecalledtoIIMRaipurforapersonalinterviewforfinalselectionduringApril-Mayoftheyearofadmissionandthesuccessfulcandidateswillreceiveoffersbymid-Mayofthatyear.AdmissiontotheprogrammeisopentooverseascandidatesincludingNRIsandforeignnationals.TheiradmissionwillbebasedonGMAT/GREscoresobtainedwithinpreviousoneyear(i.e.,onorafter1stJuly,2016).

HowtoApplyThecompletedapplicationforadmissiontotheFellowProgrammeshallincludethefollowing:FPMApplicationFormTheFPMapplicationformcanbedownloadedfromIIMRaipur’swebsite(http://www.iimraipur.ac.in).Acandidateiseligibletosubmitapplicationstoamaximumoftwoareas.Insuchcases,twocopiesoftheapplicationform,oneforeacharea,withallsupportingdocumentsmaybesenttogether.RelevantTestScoresRelevant Test Scores include CAT/GMAT/GRE/GATE/JRF (UGC/CSIR). The test score should be valid on thedeadlinesofthesubmissionoftheapplicationform.Testscoresoflasttwoyearswillonlybeconsidered.SupportingDocumentsThesupportingdocumentswillconsistof:
o CertifiedcopiesofSchoolandUniversitydegrees.o Certifiedcopiesofmarksheetsortranscriptsofgradesobtainedduringthecourseofstudyfortheabove
degrees. Transcripts in languagesother thanHindi andEnglishmustbe submittedalongwith certifiedtranslations.
o TworeferenceswiththeircontactdetailsandtheirrespectiveemailIDsfromacademicswhohavetaughtthecandidateorwithwhomthecandidatehasworkedcloselyonscholarlywork.However,thesupervisoratworkcouldwriteareference,ifthecandidatehasbeenawayfromtheuniversityforalongperiod.

FINANCIALASSISTANCEAllresidentIndianstudentsadmittedtotheprogrammeareprovidedfinancialassistance,fellowshipandvariousothersgrants.FinancialAssistanceTheTuitionFee,LibraryFee,ComputerFeeandHostelFeearecompletelywaivedforstudentsselectedforFPMprogramat IIMRaipur.Thestudentshave topayaone-timeAlumniAssociation feeof₹6000/-at the timeofacceptanceofofferforAlumniMembership.Selectedcandidatesneedtopaycautiondepositof₹30,000/-atthetimeofacceptanceofoffer.Cautionmoneyisrefundableafteradjustingdues,ifany,atthetimeofleavingtheInstitute.FellowshipStipendStudentsareprovidedwithafellowshipstipendof₹30,000permonthduringfirstandsecondyear.Thestipendwillcontinueuntilthestudent’ssuccessfulclearanceofComprehensiveExamattheendofthesecondyear.Fortherestoftheperiodoftheprogramme(i.e.,IIIandIVyear)thestipendof₹35,000permonthwillbeprovidedafterthesuccessfulcompletionofcomprehensiveexaminationattheendofthesecondyear.AdditionalGrantsAcompletepackageofgrantsisprovidedtoallFPMstudents.Thepackagehasthefollowingcomponents:

o Ayearlycontingencygrantof₹40,000peryear.TheuseofcontingencygrantrequirespriorratificationfromFPMChaironrecommendationofTACChair/Advisor.ThecontingencygrantcanbeaccumulatedtillfouryearsandastudentmaychoosetouseitforattendingonemoreInternationalConference/Summerschool.Thegrantcanbeusedforthefollowingpurposes:
- Forattendingresearchworkshops- Fieldworkinconnectionwithcoursesorthesisfortheentiredurationoftheprogram.OnlyTravel
andAccommodationwillbeallowed.NoDAwillbegivenforfieldwork/datacollection.- Purchaseofbooks,photocopy,printing,stationery- Computerconsumables,suchaspendrive,harddisk,softwareetc.- Copyeditingofpaper,dissertation,transcriptionandothercodingsupport- Thesisbindingandprintingexpenses- Accessoriessuchasvoicerecorder/e-bookreader- Subscriptiontojournal/magazines- AnnualMembershipfee(studentrates)foronenationalandoneinternationalprofessionalsociety
duringthirdandfourthyear.- DAonlyforattendingInternational/NationalConference.- Yearlyhealthinsurancepremiumfromtheinstitute’sempanelledhealthinsuranceprovider
ImportantNoteo Thosewhoareexemptedfromfirstyearcourseworkandareadmitteddirectlyinthesecondyearofthe
programmewouldbeeligibletogetstipendandothergrantonlyforthirty-sixmonths,i.e.,forthreeyears.o Freehostelaccommodationwillbemadeavailabletothestudents.Incase,hostelaccommodationisnot
available,thestudentwillbereimbursed@₹5000/-permonthtowardsalternativeaccommodation.o The institute reserves the right to charge any other fees from the students or increase the fees if
considerednecessary.Duenoticewouldbegiven,whilemakingsuchchanges.o Self-sponsored/NRIs/foreigncandidateswillberequiredtobearalltheexpensesincludingtuitionfee(as

COURSEWORKObjectivesDuringthefirstyearoftheprogrammethestudentsareexpectedtoacquireproficiencyingeneralmanagement.Thesecondyearoftheprogrammeismeantforacquiringin-depthknowledgeoftheareaofspecializationandrelatedfields.FirstYearFPMstudentswillhavetotakeanequivalentof18courses(54Credits)inthefirstyear1.Thesecoursesaredividedasfollows:
o TwelveCoursesfromPGPcoursesofferedinthefirstyeartoPGPstudents.Eachareashouldcomeupwiththelistofthesetwelvecoursestobeundertakenbythestudentsintheirarea.Thecoursescanbespreadoverthethreetermsofthefirstyear.
o FourcoursesfromcompulsoryFPMcourseswhichwillbemandatoryforalltheareas.Thesecourseswillcomprise:
- Pedagogy(1Course)- AcademicandProfessionalWriting(0.5Course)- CommunicationforManagementTeachers(0.5Course)- Philosophy/FoundationofManagement/BusinessHistory(1Course)- AdvancedResearchMethodology(1Course)
o TwocourseswillbeintheformofSummerInternship/GuidedResearchProject.Theareacanrecommendthe students toeither takeup8-10weeksof summer internshiporaguided researchprojectunderafacultymember(asacademicadvisor)fromthesentientarea.Thesummerinternship/researchreport,dulysignedbytheacademicadvisor(AA),mustbesubmittedtotheFellowProgrammesOfficeby1stJuneoftheFirstYear.
TheFPMstudentswhoalreadyhaveaone/two/three-yearfull-timeclassroombasedPGDM/PGPfromanyoftheIIMsorMBAfromIITsorMBA/PGDMfromUniversities/ Instituteswith Internationalaccreditation2wouldbeexemptedfromthefirstyearcourseworkincludingthesummerworkprovidedtheyhaveobtainedaminimumCGPAof6ona10-pointscaleoranequivalent3.0in4.0-pointscaleandthecorrespondinglettergrade`B’.TheywilldirectlyenterintothesecondyearandwillhavetotakeadditionalFPMcompulsorycourses(offeredinthefirstyearforregularstudents)duringtheirsecondyearitself.SecondYearFPMstudentswillhavetotakeanequivalentof12courses (36Credits) in thesecondyear.Thesecoursesaredividedasfollows:
o FourCoursesfromPGPElectivecoursesfromwithintheAreaorRelatedAreao SixFPMLevelCourses
- TwoAdvancedResearchCourses- 2-3AreaFPMLevelCourses- 1-2RelatedAreaFPMLevelCourses
o TwoCoursesintheformofthecourseofindependentstudy(CIS)whichwillbespreadoversecondandthirdterm.CISwouldbeundertakenunderanadvisorfromwithinthearea.TheCISreport,dulysignedbytheadvisor,mustbesubmittedtotheFellowProgrammesOfficeby1stApriloftheSecondYear.
Secondyearcoursescanalsobesubstitutedonthebasisofcontacthoursfromotheruniversities/institutes(fromIndia/Abroad)alsowithduepermission fromtheadvisor,FPMChairandtheCorrespondingpersonfromthe

otheruniversity/ institution.Suchuniversity/ institutemuchcarry InternationalAccreditation(suchasAACSB,AMBA,EFMD).Ifsucharequestisapproved,thestudentisgrantedCourse-workLeave.Ineverysuchcase,thestudent is required to take the Area Comprehensive Exam along with other students as per schedule. If thestudentsavailoffinancialsupportsuchasafellowship/scholarshipfromthatuniversity,theyarenotentitledtotheFPMstipendfromIIMRaipurfortheperiodofsuchfinancialsupport,unlessthefinancialsupportextendedbythehostinstitutionislowerthanIIMRaipur’sfellowship,inwhichcase,theshortfallinthestipendwillbepaid.Inaddition,forthispurpose,annualcontingencygrantwillbecountedaspartofthestipend.Suchstudentscontinuetobeeligibleforconferencesupport.CourseofIndependentStudyTheobjectiveofhavingaCourseofIndependentStudy(CIS)ReportistoallowtheScholarstoorganizeandreportthelearningsgainedinanindepthsystematicliteraturereviewundertakenintheirfieldofResearch.TheCourseofIndependentStudy(CIS)Reportshouldbeasubstantivecontributiontothescholar’sknowledgeaswellastohisresearchtopicthroughintegrationofvariousliteraturesourcesinthedomain.However,theCISworkmayvaryfromoneacademicadvisortoanotheracademicadvisor.ThepurposeofCISistohelpascholarnarrowdownhisareaofinterestandhelphimcreateabaseforfinalisingthetopicofhis/herthesisproposal. It ispertinenttonotethattheCourseof IndependentStudy(CIS)Reportrepresentsavisibleconcreteoutputandwould,therefore,havedemonstrablepotentialenablingindividualstopursuefurtherworkonthetheme.The CIS work will be evaluated by the CIS Advisor himself/herself and another two faculty members to benominatedby theChairperson (FellowProgrammes) in consultationwith the student’s CISAdvisor. In caseofunsatisfactoryperformanceintheCISwork,thestudentwouldbegivenonemorechancetosubmithis/herCISworkwithinonemonthforre-evaluationfromthedateoffirstevaluation.AcopyofthefinalreportshouldbesubmittedtoFellowProgrammesOffice.ThirdandFourthYearThestudentswillcleartheComprehensiveExamination(CE)andworkundertheThesisAdvisoryCommittee(TAC)onaresearchtopic.Somepointersforthethirdandfourthyearareasfollows:
o The student should present the thesis proposal before the faculty community in third year after thecomprehensiveexam.Thestudentshouldpresenttheirthesisproposalmaximallybytheendofthirdyear.
o Thestudentwillhavetosubmitsix-monthlyprogressreportsdulyattestedbytheTACallthroughthirdandfourthyear.
o Thestudentshouldideallygivethefinalthesisseminarbeforetheendof2ndtrimesteroffourthyear.Allexceptionsfromtheproposedplan/requestsforextensionwillhavetobesubmittedthroughtheTACforapproval of the Chairperson (Fellow Programmes). Chairperson (Fellow Programmes) would normallyapproveextensions;iftheextensionsarerecommendedstronglybytheTAC.
o Forextensionrequestsbeyondthefourthyear,thecandidatewouldberequiredtomakethepresentationofthethesis/work-in-progressbeforetheTAC.TheTACwillgivethefeedbackforincorporationintothethesis.Extensionsshouldbesoughtonlyduringtheseminar,withaclearplanofactionforcompletion.
TransferfromOneAreatoAnotherAfterjoiningtheFPMprogramme,astudentmayapplybyDecember15thofthefirstyearforchangeoftheareaofspecializationifs/hesodesires.Followingconditionsneedtobefulfilledforchangeofarea:
o ThestudentmustobtainCGPA≥8.5bytheendofTermIItobeconsideredforchangeofarea.o Thestudentmustobtaintheconsentfromtheoriginalareaofspecializationaswellasthedestinationarea.o Astudentcannottaketransferintoanareatowhichs/hewasoriginallyrejectedduringFPMinterview.o Thestudentmustadditionallytakefirstyearcoursesasprescribedbythedestinationareabutnotcovered

AcademicAdvisorBeforetheendofTermIIIofthefirstyear,sentientarea,inconsultationwiththestudent,willdesignateAcademicAdvisor(AA)foreachFPMstudent.ThestudentshouldsubmitFacultyAdvisorAppointmentForm(AnnexureII)dulysignedbytheAAtotheFellowProgrammesOffice.
o AllstudentshavetoconsulttheirAAforallacademicmattersrelatingtotheirelectivecourses,summerprojects,CEandDissertation,ifany,untiltheysuccessfullycompletedComprehensiveExamination.
o AAwillrecommendwhetherastudentattheendofTermIIIwillundergosummertraininginanorganizationorconductguidedresearchattheInstitute.Ifthestudentdoesn’tundergosummertraininginanorganization,AAhastheprimaryresponsibilityofguidingthestudentforsummerresearch.IftheAAisunabletoguidethestudentduringsummers,s/hemayrecommendthenameofanotherfacultycolleaguefromtheareatotheChairperson(FellowProgrammes)latestbyApril15thofthefirstyear.

CompletionofCourseWorkStudentsmustfinishallrequirementsofthecourseswithintheterminwhichthecoursesareoffered.Secondyearstudents must complete their CIS requirements before they are allowed to appear for the comprehensiveexamination.CourseworkcompletionreferstotwoyearsofcourseworkincludingsuccessfulcompletionofCISandComprehensiveExamination. ResearchandTeachingAssistantshipFPMstudentsshouldprovideamandatoryResearchandTeachingAssistantservicesduringthedoctoralprogram.Theobjectiveofresearchandteachingassistantshipistoequipthestudentwithnecessaryresearchandteachingskillsaswellastohelpthemidentifythethemewithintheirareatheywouldwanttoworkin.StudentswillprovideResearchAssistantshipduringthefirsttwoyearsoftheirprogramandTeachingAssistantshipaftercompletionoftheircomprehensiveexamination.

PERFORMANCEANDEVALUATIONAcademicPerformanceandEvaluationSystemTheevaluationofacademicperformanceisbasedonvaryingcombinationsofthefollowingcomponents:

COMPREHENSIVEEXAMINATIONObjectiveTheobjectiveoftheComprehensiveExamination(CE)attheendofthesecondyearistotestwhetherthestudenthasobtaineda satisfactory level of comprehension andapplicationof the concepts learned inhis/her fieldofspecialization.TheCEisnottotestknowledgeofadiscretecollectionoftopicsinthearea.Thecomprehensiveexaminationconsistsofatestcoveringthestudent’smajorarea. ThestudentsarerequiredtoappearfortheCEoncompletionoftherequiredcoursework,includingCIS.Ideally,astudentshouldcompletehis/hercourseworkincludingCISbythemonthofAprilofthesecondyearandpreparefor theCE.TheChairperson(FellowProgrammes) informsdifferentAreaChairpersonsaboutthenamesof thestudentswhohavecompletedtheircourseworkandarerequiredtoappearfortheCE.ComprehensiveExaminationTheAreadecidesupontheformatofthecomprehensiveexaminationforeachstudentintheirarea.Thesamecouldbeofferedasawrittenexaminationorareviewofafewimportantpapersoratermpaperonspecifictopicoranyotherformatasdecideduponbythearea.ThecandidateshouldfinallyappearforanoralexaminationinfrontoftheAreaComprehensiveExaminationCommittee.AreaComprehensiveExaminationCommitteeTheChairperson(FellowProgrammes),inconsultationwiththestudent’sacademicadvisor(AA)appointstheAreaComprehensiveExaminationCommittee(ACEC).Thecommitteeconsistsoftheacademicadvisor(asChairpersonoftheACEC),twoothermembers(area/relatedarea/oneexternal).Theexternalmember,ifany,canbeinvitedthroughskype,ifhe/sheisinadifferentlocation.InordertopasstheCE,atleasttwooftheACECmembersshoulddeclarethestudent’sperformanceassatisfactory.IfmultiplenumberofstudentsinanareatakeCEinthesameyear,same/separateACECcanbeformedforeachstudentwiththerespectiveAAastheChairpersonoftheACEC.GradingoftheComprehensiveExaminationTheoralportionofthecomprehensiveexaminationwouldbegradedasPass|Fail.Agrade‘Pass’signifiestheminimalacceptableperformanceexpectedfromaFPMstudent.A‘Fail’indicatesthattheanswerisnotuptothestandardsexpectedfromourFPMstudents. TimeLimitforComprehensiveExaminationThestudentmustappearfortheComprehensiveExaminationbytheendofJuneaftercompletingthecourseworkphase,failingwhichhis/hermonthlystipendwillbewithheldfromthemonthofJuly.Underspecialcircumstances,thedateofCEmaybeextendedbyuptoamaximumof3monthsuponpriorapplicationfromthestudentandrecommended by the sentient area through AA. In case of unsatisfactory performance in the CE, one re-examinationispermitted.Butitmustbetakenbythestudentwithin3monthsofthefirstCE.IfthestudentsclearCEinthesecondattempt,thewithheldstipendwillbereleased.IfthestudentsfailtoclearCEinthesecondattemptalso,hewillhavetowithdrawfromtheprogram.

THESISWORKObjectiveThethesisshouldbeascholarlycontributiontotheknowledgepertinenttotheunderstandingandresolutionofmanagementproblems.Thestudentshoulddemonstrateprofessionalcompetenceindevelopingamodelorasetofhypotheses,collectingandinterpretingdata,reachingconclusions,anddrawingtheimplicationsforresearchandmanagerialpractice.ThesisAdvisoryCommitteeWithinonemonthfromthedateofpassingthecomprehensiveexamination,thestudentmustidentifyaThesisAdvisor who will guide him/her as Chairperson in his/her Thesis Advisory Committee (TAC). This should becommunicated to the Fellow Programmes Office in writing along with the consent of the concerned facultymember.TheChairperson(FellowProgrammes)appointstheTACinconsultationwiththestudentandthethesisadvisor.Astudentmustproposehis/herTACwithinthreemonthsofpassinghis/hercomprehensiveexamination.AfacultymembercanbeaTACChairforamaximumoffourFPMcandidatesatanygivenpointoftime.The TACwill consist of threemembers, including the thesis advisor, at least twoofwhich,must be from thestudent'sareaofspecialization.Themembersarechosentocontributetothethesisresearchinacomplementarymannerandtoprovidehelpinliteraturesearch,researchdesign,modelconstruction,fieldwork,anddataanalysis.AnexpertoranacademicianfromoutsideofIIMRaipurcanalsobememberofthecommitteeprovideds/heisinterestedinthetopicofresearchandcansparetimetoguidethestudent.Ifthecircumstancesdemand,theChairperson(FellowProgrammes)may,inconsultationwiththestudentandtheChairperson of the TAC, reconstitute the TAC. A Co-Chairperson TAC will be appointed (from amongst TACmembers)ifTACChairpersonproceedsonlongleaveorquitstheservicesoftheInstituteandFPMcandidate’spre-thesissubmissionseminarisnotover.IncaseTACChairpersonproceedsonlongleaveorquitstheservicesoftheinstitutebeforethethesisproposalseminarofthecandidate,TACwillbereconstituted.TheroleofTACincludesthefollowing:
a. JudgingtheadequacyoftheresearchdesignfortheThesisProposalb. Attendingthesisseminartobepresentedbythestudentsandtoprovidefeedbackc. Providingwrittenfeedbackonthedraftthesissubmittedbythestudent
ThesisProposalSeminarTheproposalshouldcontainasurveyofliteratureandcontextdescriptiononthesubject.Studentsshouldclearlystatetheirresearchobjectives,relatethesetotheresearchintheareaandproblemsinthiscontext,developamodelorasetofhypotheses,providecleardefinitions,describeanddefendtheproposedresearchmethodologyandhighlightthepotentialcontributionoftheproposedstudytotheory,practice,andresearchintherelevantareaofmanagement.WhentheTACagreesontheadequacyoftheresearchdesign,thestudentformulatesapreliminarythesisproposalandgivesaseminarontheproposaltotheinstitute’sacademiccommunityforgettingfurtherinputstostrengthenthethesisproposal.ThestudentthroughTACshouldgiveatleasttwoweeks’noticetotheFellowProgrammesOfficeforarrangingtheseminar,intheinterestofbetterparticipationfromtheinstitute’sacademiccommunity.Duringsummervacation,FellowProgrammesOfficewillscheduletheseminarconsideringtheavailabilityoffacultymembers.ApprovalandSubmissionofThesisProposalAthesisproposalisapprovedonlyafterthestudenthasgiventhethesisproposalseminarandtheTACconcludesthatthesubjectappearsresearchableinthewayithasbeenproposed.TACwillascertainthatthefieldworkislikely to produce the required data and the analyticalmethodology if adequately carried outwill produce anacceptablethesis,andthestudentisreadyfordoingfullscaleresearch.

ThestudentsubmitstotheChairperson(FellowProgrammes)acopyofthethesisproposalapprovedbytheTAC.The student’s failure to fulfil this requirement within 6 months after passing his CE will be considered as“unsatisfactoryperformance”.Astudentcanbegivenonemorechancetopresentthethesisproposalbytheendofthirdyear.Permittedleavewithoutfellowshipwillbetakenintoconsiderationincalculatingthistimelimit.Ifthestudentfailstoclearinthesecondattempt,his/herregistrationwillbecancelled.ThesisResearchUndertheTAC’sguidance,thestudentpursuesindependentandoriginalresearchtowardspreparationofathesis.Thethesismayrequirefieldinvestigationandobservationtoascertainandimpartiallyreportfactsandissuesofsignificancetoorganizationsandinstitutions.Thethesisshouldincludeeffectiveanalysisandevaluationofrelevantdatatoyieldindependentandsignificantconclusions.ResearchProgressReportInordertopromoteahealthysystemfortrackingacademicprogressofthestudentsandtofacilitatetheFPMCommitteetotaketimelyremedialactions,ifanyrequired,asix-monthlyreportingsystemhasbeenintroducedforstudentsfromthirdyearonwards.Theyarerequiredtosubmitasix-monthlyreportoftheirprogresstotheFellowProgrammesOffice.Thereportintheprescribedformat(AnnexureXIII)signedbytheChairpersonoftheTACshouldreachtheofficelatestbytheendofeverysixmonths.StandardsforThesisTheprincipalpurposeof the thesis is todemonstrate the students’ capability tomake fruitfuluseof researchmethodsappropriatetotheproblemandtodevelopandhandleevidencesatisfactorily.Hence,thethesisshouldcontainastatementof(a)theresearchproceduresemployed,and(b)theextent,nature,reliabilityandsuitabilityof the evidence gathered. Clarity, conciseness and orderliness of writing and presentation are required. It isnecessarytoincludesufficientevidencetosupportthereasoningandconclusionssoastopermitotherscholarstobuilduponthem.Thelengthofthethesiswillvarywithresearchtopicandevidencerequired.Thethesisneednotbeofbooklength.DraftThesisThe student submits one copy of the approved draft thesis duly signed by the TAC members to the FellowProgrammesOffice.Thedraftthesisneedstobesubmittedbeforeproposingthethesisseminar.Followingarethepre-requisitesforsubmittingthedoctoraldraftthesis:

ThesisSeminarThethesisseminarneedstobepresentedbythecandidateonlyafters/hesubmitstheapproveddraftthesistotheFellowProgrammesOffice.Beforesubmittingthefinalthesisfordefensethestudentpresentsaseminaronthe research todisseminate the findings tostimulate researchwork in thearea.Theseminaralsoprovidesanopportunity to obtain feedback from the institute’s academic community including the TAC towards betterpresentationandfindings.Thesesuggestionshavetobeincludedinthefinalthesis.ThestudentthroughTACshouldgiveatleasttwoweeks’noticetotheFellowProgrammesOfficeforarrangingtheseminarintheinterestofbetterparticipationfromtheinstitute’sacademiccommunity.Duringsummervacation,FellowProgrammesOfficewillscheduleseminarsconsideringtheavailabilityoffacultymembers.FinalThesisSubmissionAfterincorporatingallthesuggestionsprovidedintheThesisSeminar,thestudentsubmitsthefinalthesisalongwithadetailedabstractofthethesisnotexceeding10pages(bothsoftandhardcopies)andsignedapprovalformsbyalltheTACmemberstotheFellowProgrammesOfficewithinthreemonthsfromthedateofthethesisseminar.

ThesisExaminationCommitteeWhen a student is ready to submit his/her 6 copies of thesis work, he/she requests the Chairperson (FellowProgrammes) to appoint the Thesis Examination Committee (TEC). ADMINISTRATIVEMATTERSResidentialFacilitiesTheFPMcourseneedsconsiderablestudyandpreparatoryworkbeyondtheclassroomsessions.Allstudentsarerequiredtostayoncampusandwouldbeprovidedwithaccommodation,unlesspermittedtostayoutsideCampusbytheChairperson(FellowProgrammes).HostelroomrentiswaivedforFPMstudents.ThefollowingHostelruleswillbeappliedtoFPMstudents:
o The IIMRaipurHostel ismeantfortheaccommodationofregularstudents inthe Institute'sresidentialprogramme.Nooneelseispermittedtostayinthehostels.
o Duringthevacationsstudentsmayberequiredtovacatetheirroomssothattheroomscouldbeusedforotheractivitiesand/ormaintenance.Firstyearstudentsshallnotlockuptheirluggageintheirroomswhentheyproceedonsummerinternship.Theoffice,ifrequired,mayprovidestoragefacilities. Itwillbetheresponsibilityofthestudentstohandovertheluggage,dulypackedwithnecessaryidentification,totheofficeandgetareceiptthereof.
o Studentsmay be required to shift their rooms at any time during the academic year, if required, andrecommendedbytheChairperson(Students’Affairs).
o StudentsarenotallowedtoshiftroomswithoutpriorpermissionofChairperson(Students’Affairs).
o Anyitemlikefurniture/fixtures/utensilsetc.willnotbeshiftedfromoneplacetoanotherwithoutpriorpermissionofStudents'AffairsofficestaffwhowillkeeptheChairperson(Students'Affairs)/Maintenanceinformed.
o StudentswillallowtheMaintenanceDepartmentstaffoftheInstitute,theirworkers,andStudents'AffairsOfficestafftohaveaccesstotheirroomsatallreasonablehourstoinspectthebuildings,thewatersupply,sanitaryorelectricalinstallations,fixturesandfurniture,andtocarryoutsuchnormalrepairstheretoasmaybeconsiderednecessaryforthepropermaintenanceofthebuildings.

o Any complaint regarding residential facilities or minor repairs may be lodged with the MaintenanceDepartment/StudentAffairsOffice.Theywilltakenecessaryaction.
o Studentsarerequestedtoswitchoffthelightsandfanswhenevertheyarenotneededortheygoout.Theventilatorsandtherear/frontdoorsmustbeclosedandbolted/lockedproperlywhiletheygoouttoavoidanypilferage/theft.TheInstitutewillnotberesponsibleforthelossofthestudent’sbelongings.
o Studentsareadvisednottokeeplargesumsofcashwiththemintheirrooms.Eachroomisfurnishedwitha cupboard. Students are advised to keep their valuables such as calculators, wristwatch, etc., in thecupboardwhentheygooutoftheroom.Propercareofthecupboardshouldalsobeensured.Anydamagetoanyfurnitureitemswillhavetobefixedbytheconcernedstudent.
o The hostel community, as a family, cherishes its belongings and expects all to treat them with care.Therefore,wewillappreciateifyouclosedoorsandlatchwindowsgentlybutfirmly.Pleaseavoidlittering,andhelptheStudents'AffairsOfficekeepthehostelsandthecampuscleanandpleasing.

ConferenceParticipationTheinstituteprovidesacumulativeConferenceGrantupto₹1,50,000duringtheFPMprogramforattendingoneInternationalConference,uptotwoNationalConferencesandoneDoctoralConsortiumSeminar.NationalConferenceTheInstituteprovidesgranttoFPMstudentstoattendtheNationalConferences/Seminar/Workshopduringtheir3rd and 4th year of the programme (maximum two each year), but only after clearing their comprehensiveexaminationandviva.
For attending conferences, students are required to write a paper for the presentation/acceptance in theconference.However,underspecialcircumstancesstudentsarepermittedtoattendaconferenceofhighvalueonthebasisoftherecommendationsofAcademicAdvisor/TACandChairperson(FellowProgrammes).ButduringthatyearthestudentsarenotpermittedtoavailtheInstitute'sgranttoattendanyothernationalconference.

THESISEVALUATIONGUIDELINESTheFellowProgrammeinManagementattheIndianInstituteofManagementRaipurhas2yearsofcourseworkfollowedbyacomprehensivewrittenexaminationandviva.Uponsuccessfulcompletionofthecoursework,thescholarworkstowardshis/herdoctoralworkwhichculminatesintheformofathesis.Presentationofthethesisinapublicseminarandsuccessfuldefenseofthethesisinanoralexaminationisarequirementfortheawardofthetitle“FellowoftheIndianInstituteofManagementRaipur”.Accordingly,aThesisEvaluationCommittee(TEC)comprisingofthethree(ThesisAdvisoryCommittee)TACmembersofthescholarandtwoexternalexaminersisformulated forexamining thethesisof thescholar.Thethesis is firstexaminedby theTACof thescholarwhocertifythethesistobeoriginalandworthyofexaminersbyexternalexaminers.Athesismustbeevaluatedbytwoexternalexaminersbeforethescholarispermittedtoproceedtowardsthesisdefense.Thisdocumentpresentstheguidelinesforevaluationofthethesisofthescholarbeforeitcanbesubmittedforthedefense.Anexternalexaminerisrequestedtoevaluatethethesisonthebasisofwhetheritcontainsanoriginalideaoranoriginal application of an existing idea and whether it is ready for a defense. iii) Theexaminer(s)willbeaskedtosendhis/hercommentsonthecorrespondencewithintwoweeksofreceivingit.
iv) Thedefensewilltakeplaceafteracceptanceofthedetailedcorrespondencefromthescholarbytheexaminer(s).Iftheexaminerisnotsatisfiedwiththefirstroundofcorrespondence,asecondroundofcorrespondenceshouldbesent.Inraresituationswherethesecondroundofcorrespondenceisalsonotfoundtobesatisfactorybytheexaminer(s),theFPMCommitteecanmeetanddecideonthenextsteponacase-to-casebasis.
v) At the defense, all TEC members but the Advisor (or Joint Advisors) should sign two copies ofacceptance(oneforlibraryandonefortheFPoffice).
vi) Afterthedefense,thescholarwillincorporatea. allmodificationsasaddressedbyhim/herinresponsetoqueriesraisedbytheexaminer(s),andb. changessuggestedduringthedefense,forwhichamaximumperiodoftwomonthswouldbegiven
tothescholarfromthedateofthedefense.vii) The scholar should then get the acceptance form signed by the Advisor(s), who will ensure that
modifications/changeshavebeenincorporated,andsubmittwohardboundcopiesofthedissertationalongwithaletterfromtheAdvisor(s)certifyingthatchangesweremade.
CategoryIV:UnacceptableIfonememberoftheTEC findsthethesisunacceptable,thenopinionofafifthexaminerwouldbesought. Ifathesisisfoundtobeunacceptablebymorethanoneexaminer,thenanewthesishastoberesubmitted.Ascholarwouldbeallowedtoresubmitanewthesisonlyonce.Thetimegivenforresubmissionofanewthesis,however,shouldnotbemorethancompletionofsevenyearsintheprogramme.Atthedefense,anoralexaminationwillbeconductedbytheThesisExaminationCommittee(TEC)comprisedoftheTACandthetwoexternalexaminers.ThemembersoftheTECwillevaluatewhetherthedissertationexaminedat thedefensecancategoricallybecertifiedasof thestandard for theawardof thetitle"Fellowof the IndianInstituteofManagementRaipur”.TherecanbeoneandonlyonedissentamongtheTECmembers.IftheTECrejectsthedissertationoutright(withmorethanonemembersorejecting),thecandidateisdroppedfromtheProgramme.
