Fifth Sunday Easter (Cycle C) A Sunday Reflection
If the Cross is the sign of the Christian, Love is the identifying mark. Love and the Cross go together.
In today’s gospel the Lord opens His heart to the disciples. His time is running out and He has much to tell them still. And so there is an urgency in His words. He wants the disciples—and us—to know how we must be recognized as His followers, and the answer is love, the love with which He loved us, a sacrificial love. Odd as it seems, Christ is glorified by the Cross, the throne from which He reigns, the throne from which He shows His love. And so the commandment: “As I have loved you, so you also should love one another”(Jn 13:34).
It seems strange that during the Easter Season the Church invites us to ponder on the words of the Lord at the Last Supper. But if we consider them as Jesus’ last will, then it is good that we bring them to mind now; for we must carry them out until the end of time: “This is how all will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another” (Jn 13:35). God bless you!

Reflexión Dominical Si la Cruz es la señal del cristiano, el Amor es la marca que
lo identifica. El Amor y la Cruz van juntos.
En el evangelio de hoy, el Señor abre Su corazón a los discípulos. Se le acaba el tiempo y todavía tiene mucho que decirles. Sus palabras tienen una urgencia especial. Quiere que los discípulos sepan cómo reconocerán a Sus seguidores, entre los que estamos incluidos nosotros; y la respuesta es el amor, el amor con que Él mismo nos amó, un amor que se sacrifica. Aunque parezca extraño, Cristo es glorificado por medio de la Cruz, el trono desde el cual reina, el trono desde el que nos muestra Su amor. Y de ahí el mandamiento: “como yo los he amado: aménse así unos a otros” (Jn 13,34).
Parece extraño que durante el tiempo pascual la Iglesia nos invita a contemplar las palabras del Señor en la última cena. Pero si las consideramos como Su última voluntad, es bueno que las recordemos ahora, porque debemos cumplirlas hasta el fin de los tiempos: “En eso conocerán todos que son mis discípulos, en el amor que se tengan unos a otros” (Jn 13,35). Dios los bendiga.

A Loving God This week we are invited to realize how much God loves us, how
He does not grow tired of showing this love to us in the simplest
of ways: by looking at us, being moved by us, having pity on our
deficiencies, in bending dow to touch our sorrow and binding our
wounds, in teaching us about His kingdom, in giving Himself up
for us on the Cross and, by rising from the dead, gifting us with
eternal life. All He asks is that we become aware of this, because
by becoming aware of His love, we can in turn love our brothers
and sisters as He loves us.
In Christus Vivit the Pope tells us: “With the same love that
Christ pours out on us, we can love Him in turn and share His love
with others, in the hope that they too will take their place in the
community of friendship He established.” It is for this that we
count with your time, your talent, your money, so that through
your generosity the Kingdom may be a little closer to those who
still feel it’s far away. Let God renew your whole life so that you
may serve others with His love.
Un Dios que ama
Este semana estamos invitados a darnos cuenta cuánto nos
ama el Señor, cómo no se cansó de demostrárnoslo, en lo más
simple, en el vernos, en conmoverse por nosotros, en
compadecerse ante nuestras carencias, en agacharse hasta
tocar nuestro dolor y vendar nuestras heridas, en darnos a
conocer el Reino de Dios, en entregarse por nosotros en la Cruz,
en resucitar de entre los muertos regalándonos la eternidad.
Solo nos pide que nos demos cuenta, porque al registrar Su amor
podremos amar a nuestros hermanos como Él nos ama.
El Papa en Christus Vivit nos dice : ”Con el mismo amor que Él
derrama en nosotros podemos amarlo, llevando Su amor a los
demás, con la esperanza de que también ellos encontrarán su
puesto en la comunidad de amistad fundada por Jesucristo”. Es
para esto que contamos con tu tiempo, tu talento y tu dinero
para que a través de tu generosidad el Reino esté un poquito
más cerca de los que aún lo ven lejano. Deja que Él haga nueva
toda tu vida para que puedas servir desde Su amor.

The Blesseds /LosBeatos BLESSED GIUSEPPE GIROTTI (1905-1945) —
Dominican priest and martyr, Giuseppe was born in Alba, Italy.
After professing vows as a Dominican friar and being ordained a priest, he studied at the École Biblique in Jerusalem, and later taught Scripture at the Dominican seminary in Turin, Italy.
Fr. Giuseppe was arrested by the Nazis in August, 1944, for hiding Jews and helping them escape Nazi territories.
After being shuffled from one concentration camp to another, he died in Dachau on April 1, 1945, having spent his final weeks ministering to other prisoners.
In 1995 Yad Vashem, The World Holocaust Remembrance Center, recognized Fr. Girotti as “Righteous Among the Nations”. He was beatified in 2014.
BEATO JOSÉ GIROTTI (1905-1945) — Sacerdote dominico y mártir, nació en Alba, Italia.
Después de profesar como fraile dominico y ser ordenado sacerdote, estudió en la École Biblique en Jerusalén, y más tarde enseñó Sagrada Escritura en el seminario dominico de Turín, Italia.
El P. José fue arrestado por los nazis en agosto de 1944, acusado de esconder a los judíos y ayudarlos a escaparse de territorios controlados por aquellos.
Transferido de un campo de concentración a otro, murió finalmente en Dachau el 1 de abril de 1945, luego de dedicar sus últimas semanas de vida a asistir con su ministerio a otros prisioneros.
En 1995 Yad Vashem, Centro Mundial de Conmemoración de la Shoá (Holocausto), reconoció al P. Girotti como “Justo Entre las Naciones”. Fue beatificado en 2014.

The Bible never ceases to insist that profound respect be
shown to the elderly, since they have a wealth of experience; they have known success and failure, life’s joys
and afflictions, its dreams and disappointments. In the silence of their heart, they have a store of experiences that can teach us not to make mistakes or be taken in by false
promises. An ancient sage asks us to respect certain limits and to master our impulses…. It is unhelpful to buy into the
cult of youth or foolishly to dismiss others simply because they are older or from another generation. Jesus tells us that the wise are able
to bring forth from their store things both new and old (cf. Mt 13:52). A wise young person is open to the future, yet still capable of learning something from
the experience of others.
Exhortación Apostólica Christus Vivit! No. 16 …al mismo tiempo… La Biblia siempre invita a un profundo respeto hacia los
ancianos, porque albergan un tesoro de experiencia, han probado los éxitos y los fracasos, las alegrías y las grandes angustias de la vida, las ilusiones y los desencantos, y en el silencio de su corazón guardan tantas historias que nos pueden ayudar a no equivocarnos ni engañarnos por falsos espejismos. La palabra de un anciano sabio invita a respetar ciertos límites y a saber dominarse a tiempo… No hace bien caer en un culto a la juventud, o en una actitud juvenil que desprecia a los demás por sus años, o porque son de otra época. Jesús decía que la persona sabia es capaz de sacar del arcón tanto lo nuevo como lo viejo (cf. Mt 13,52). Un joven sabio se abre al futuro, pero siempre es capaz de rescatar algo de la experiencia de los otros.
