INTERNATIONAL MUSIC COMPETITION

“FRANCESCO CARDAROPOLI”

23-26 APRIL 2020

The International Music Competition “Francesco Cardaropoli” is open to all young musicians. The competition

will take place from 23th to 26th April 2020 in Bracigliano (SA). The competition will be held in the historical De

Simone Palace situated in Via Vittorio Emanuele, Bracigliano.

COMPETITION RULES ART. 1

INTRODUCTION

The City of Bracigliano in collaboration with “Libera-Mente” Association is happy to present the International

Music Competition “Francesco Cardaropoli”. The competition is open to young musicians of both genders

in accordance to the laws 903/77 and 125/91 and to people of all ages and nationalities, in accordance to the

Legislative Decrees 251/03 and 216/03. The Competition will be held in the De Simone Palace situated in

Bracigliano (SA), Via Vittorio Emanuele. It will take place from Thursday 23th to Sunday 26th April 2020.

The competition was born with the aim to encourage the confront between young beginners musicians or

professional musicians that, in an atmosphere of dialogue and cultural exchange, donate their talent for the

affirmation of the second Art of Muses through an empathetic relationship between them and the public.

ART. 2

SECTIONS AND CATEGORIES

SECTION I. JUNIORS (All instruments): FREE CHOICE PROGRAM

SECTION II. SOLOISTS (Piano, Four hands Piano*, Strings, Winds, Guitar, Accordion, Harp, Percussion,

*The choice of the category is calculated according to the average age of the two participants.

The competition is open to violinists of max. 35 years old and is articulated in two faces:

1. Eliminatory:

Obligatory piece: caprice of free choice of PAGANINI, WIENAWSKI or VIEUXTEMPS and

A free choice program of max 15 minutes

2. Final Round: Free choice program, max 20 minutes

A maximum of 12 CANDIDATES will enter the final round

VIOLIN AWARD “FRANCESCO CARDAROPOLI”

Francesco Cardaropoli was born in Bracigliano (SA) on the 30th of June 1969. Due to the historical musical

tradition of the small town situated in the Valle of Irno, Francesco graduated really soon in Art of the

Trombone at the Conservatory “G.Martucci” of Salerno. After that, he graduated in Didactics of Music; Band

Instrumentation; Composition; Trumpet; Wind Orchestra Conducting; Tuba; Choral music and Choir

Conducting.

He collaborates as Orchestra Professor with the Opera Theater of Rome, Orchestra “Fenaroli” of Lanciano,

“G. Verdi” of Salerno, “F.Cilea” of Reggio Calabria, Ostawa Academy Orchestra and the “Madre Tereza”

Orchestra of Tirana.

He was the conductor of the “ “Wind Symphonic Orchestra” and the Brass Orchestra of the Conservatory of

Salerno.

His activity was focused on teaching, conducting, composition and instrumentation.

He composed for orchestra, chamber music, choir and band and his compositions are performed in Italy, as

well as abroad.

Since 2002 his bibliography is included in the European library of artists.

After being teaching in the Conservatory of Reggio Calabria, Trapani, Cagliari and Palermo, he was the Head

of the Department for Trumpet and Trombone and Professor of “Band Instrumentation” and “Conducting for

Wind Orchestra” of the Conservatory of Music “G.Martucci” of Salerno.

Maestro F.Cardaropoli died at the age of 50, on the 21 October 2019.

This award was deeply desired by his children Gennaro and Raffaella and strongly supported by the

organization. In memory of their father who dedicated all his life to support the young promises.

Today his son, Gennaro Cardaropoli, is a soloist of international fame and he is teaching at the Conservatory

“G. Donizetti” in Bergamo; his daughter, Raffaella, is studying at the Barenboim-Said Akademie in Berlin as

the only Italian student and she has numerous concerts that see her performing in all Europe.

SECTION III. VIOLIN AWARD “FRANCESCO CARDAROPOLI”

The competition is open to violinists of max. 35 years old and is articulated in two faces:

1. Eliminatory:

2. Final Round: Free choice program, max 20 minutes

1. Annual loan of a “R. Antoniazzi” violin granted by Fondazione Pro Canale of Milan and Master

Class by an international fame Professor during the year 2021

2. A concert for the season of the “Concerti di Villa Guariglia” XX edition

VALUATION

The performance cannot be repeated; the valuation is in cents.

From 100/100 with LAUDE FIRST ABSOLUTE PRIZE

From 95 to 100 points FIRST PRIZE

From 90 to 94 points SECOND PRIZE

From 85 to 89 points THIRD PRIZE

From 80 to 84 points CERTIFICAT OF MERIT

Winners with 100/100 points will gain scholarships.

Moreover, all participants with the unanimously voting by the jury of 100/100 with LAUDE, will compete

during the final evening, 26th of April 2020. The winner will award the Special Prize “Global Music Award”

concerning the amount of € 1000,00 offered by “Villa Carmela”. IMPORTANT: those who don’t participate in the final evening, will also lose the SECTION OR CATEGORY

scholarship

GENERAL RULES

− Competitors must do the registration at their arrive in the Secretary of the competition and they

have to present their selves at least 30 minutes before the beginning of their Section/Category, as

indicate on the timetable of the auditions.

The Jury will decide to accept or not the latecomers.

− Competitors must bring to the audition:

• Identification document;

• Two copies of the scores of their program for the Jury.

− Competitors for the “Soloists” categories can choose to present a solo piece or a piece with piano

accompaniment. Contestants must provide their own accompanists. If the competitors want our

pianist (€ 35,00) must send, at least 10 days before the auditions, a copy of their scores.

− By entering the contest, the participant accepts without reservation the general rules.

The registration fees cannot be refundable, except for causes and/or responsibility of the

Organization.

Any competitor has the right to enter a higher age category, but not a lower age category.

− The Jury will be formed by Music Teachers, Orchestra Professors and Musician of international

fame.

Jury members who are parents or teacher of a candidate will not be allowed to vote for the

participant.

The Jury’s decisions are incontestable, unappealable and definitive. The Jury has the right to stop

the participant in any moment.

− According to the article 10 of the law n° 675/96 on the “Protection of the personal data”, “Libera-

Mente” Association inform that the data of the participants will be used for communications relate

to the competition. According to the article 129 of this law, the participant can object their use.

− All the auditions will be open to the public. In case of recording and/or radio, television or

internet broadcasting of the auditions, the candidates will have no right to claim compensation to

the Organization. For any dispute, the responsible will be the Foro of Nocera Inferiore.
