Step 1: Cutting the Fabric1. Fabric A (Frida Panel) – Cut as follows:

a. Fussy Cut (1) section of the panel to cover (3) Figures at 16-1/2” x WOF – Sub-cut into (2) sections (1) at16-1/2” x 29-1/2” (Figures – Bottom Left) and (1) 16-1/2” x 9-1/2” (Flowers – Upper Left).

b. Fussy Cut (1) section of the panel to cover (1) Figure at 9-1/2” x WOF – Sub-cut into (2) sections (1) at 9-1/2” x 29-1/2” (Figure – Bottom Right) and (1) 9-1/2” square (Flowers – Upper Right).

c. From the balance of the fabric fussy cut (4) 8-3/4” squares – Outer Border Corners.d. Using the remaining left over fabric pick (2) flowers and cut generously around the flower and fuse a piece

of the Double Sided Fusible Web to the wrong side of the fabric then cut around the flower using the edgeof the flower as your guide (This part is raw edge appliqué).

2. Fabric B (Multi Frida Kahlo) – Cut as follows:a. Fussy Cut (2) strips at 6-1/2” x 39-1/2” rectangles along the SELVAGE edge – Left and Right Sides of Center.b. Fussy Cut (1) section along the remaining width of the fabric at 26-1/2” x 8-1/2” – Top of Center.

3. Fabric C (Viva Frida) – Cut as follows:a. Cut (2) strips along the SELVAGE edge at 8-3/4” x 48-1/2” – Left and Right Sides

Outer Border.b. From the balance of the fabric cut (4) strips at 8-3/4” x remaining WOF

(approximately 22”) – Sew the strips together at the 8-3/4” edge then sub-cutinto (2) 40-1/2” x 8-3/4” rectangles – Top and Bottom Outer Border.

4. Fabric D (Pink) – Cut (22) 4” squares. Press into rectangles with WRONG sidestogether then fold the outer edges of the fold into the center to meet the raw edgeat the bottom to make (22) Prairie Points for the Outer Border – See Example A..

5. Fabric E (Red) – Cut (22) 4” squares. Prepare exactly the same as done for Fabric D –Outer Border Prairie Points.

6. Fabric F (Black) – Cut (12) strips at 1-1/2” x WOF and sub-cut as follows:a. Cut (1) 1-1/2” x 29-1/2” rectangle, (1) 1-1/2” x 9-1/2” rectangle and (1) 26-1/2”

x 1-1/2” rectangle – Center.b. Cut (2) 1-1/2” x 39-1/2” rectangles (Left and Right Sides of Center) and (1) 40-1/2” x 1-1/2” rectangle (Top

of Center).c. Cut (2) of the strips into 40-1/2” x 1-1/2” rectangles (Top and Bottom Inner Border) – Sew (3) strips

together then sub-cut into (2) 1-1/2” x 50-1/2” rectangles (Left and Right Sides Inner Border).d. Cut into (8) 1-1/2” x 8-3/4” rectangles (Outer Border).e. Cut (1) strip at 8-1/2” x WOF – Sub-cut into (1) 40-1/2” x 8-1/2” rectangle (Top of Center).

Step 2 – Sewing the Center – Refer to the COVER illustration as a guide.7. Sew (1) Fabric F 1-1/2” x 29-1/2” rectangle to the RIGHT side of (1) Fabric A 16-1/2” x 29-1/2” rectangle then

sew (1) Fabric A 9-1/2” x 29-1/2” rectangle to the RIGHT side of Fabric F to measure 26-1/2” x 29-1/2”.

8. Sew (1) Fabric F 26-1/2” x 1-1/2” rectangle to the TOP.9. Sew (1) Fabric F 1-1/2” x 9-1/2” rectangle to the RIGHT side of (1) Fabric A 16-1/2” x 9-1/2” rectangle then sew

(1) Fabric A 9-1/2” square to the RIGHT side of Fabric F to measure 26-1/2” x 9-1/2” then sew to the top ofFabric F to measure 26-1/2” x 39-1/2”.

10. Sew (1) Fabric F 1-1/2” x 39-1/2” rectangle to the LEFT and RIGHT sides to measure 28-1/2” x 39-1/2”.11. Sew (1) Fabric B 6-1/2” x 39-1/2” rectangle to the LEFT and RIGHT sides to measure 40-1/2” x 39-1/2”.12. Sew (1) Fabric F 40-1/2” x 1-1/2” rectangle to the TOP to measure 40-1/2” square.

Preparing the Top of the Center – Refer to Example B13. Cut (2) 8-1/2” squares from the Lightweight Fusible Web. Draw a line ¼” in

on all 4 edges of the fusible web. This will allow for you to center the 8”template below onto the fusible web, and then trace the curve.

14. Layer the Lightweight Fusible Web onto the RIGHT side of the fabric, at theleft and right ends of the Fabric B 26-1/2” x 8-1/2” rectangle, ensuring thatthe curve goes towards the top, as illustrated on the Cover (the web will notcover the whole piece). Stitch on the drawn line – TURN and finger press togive you a nice clean edge.

Note: See Example B – The BLACK is the RIGHT SIDE of FABRIC andthe GRAY is the LIGHTWEIGHT FUSIBLE WEB.

15. Center onto (1) Fabric F 40-1/2” x 8-1/2” rectangle, fuse, and stitch the CURVES of Fabric B for added security.16. Fuse the (2) Fabric A Flowers prepared in Instruction No. 1d to opposite sides as shown on the Cover Illustration.

Finishing the Center17. Sew the 40-1/2” x 8-1/2” rectangle just completed to the TOP of the 40-1/2” square to measure 40-1/2” x 48-

1/2”.

Step 3 – BordersInner Border

18. Sew (1) Fabric F 40-1/2” x 1-1/2” rectangle to the top and bottom of the Center then sew (1) Fabric F 1-1/2” x50-1/2” rectangle to the left and right sides to finish the Inner Border at 42-1/2” x 50-1/2”.

Outer Border19. Layer (6) of Fabric D and (6) of Fabric E “Prairie Points” onto the RIGHT side of (1) Fabric C 8-3/4” x 48-1/2”

rectangle along the raw edge evenly spaced and alternating between the fabrics as illustrated on the Cover. Pinto secure. Sew (1) Fabric F 8-3/4” x 1-1/2” rectangle to both 8-3/4” edges then sew to the LEFT side of the InnerBorder.

20. Do exactly the same process for the RIGHT side shifting the “Prairie Points” to the LEFT side of Fabric C. Sew tothe RIGHT side to measure 59” x 50-1/2”.

21. Layer (5) of Fabric D and (5) of Fabric E “Prairies Points” onto the BOTTOM of (1) Fabric C 40-1/2” x 8-3/4”rectangle as previously done. Sew (1) Fabric F 1-1/2” x 8-3/4” rectangle to the left and right then sew (1) FabricA 8-3/4” square to the left and right to measure 59” x 8-3/4”. Sew to the TOP.

22. Do exactly the same process for the BOTTOM shifting the “Prairies Points” to the TOP edge of Fabric C. Sew tothe BOTTOM to finish the quilt top at 59” x 67”.

Step 4 – Finishing the QuiltNote about Backing:You may use a 2-1/2 yards piece of wide backing. Or if using 42” x 44” wide fabric, cut (2) backing pieces at 2-1/4 yardsby WOF, and the seam may be horizontal or vertical. Sew the SELVAGE edges together using a 1” seam then trim theselvage off and press to one side.

23. Layer the backing, batting, and quilt top and quilt as desired.24. Using the balance of Fabric F cut (7) 2-1/2” strips – join all the 2-1/2” edges and sew on the binding to finish the

quilt.
