The Organising Committee invites you to the 2017 Australian Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society Conference.

We would like to welcome all delegates from Australia, as well as those from further afield, including our International Guest Presenters, Dr Pierre Barouk, Dr Tim Daniels & Dr Anish Kadakia.

This meeting provides all of us with the opportunity to share knowledge and research ideas in an effort to expand our field.

We look forward to a dynamic meeting with contributions from local faculty as well as our guest presenters. We hope this meeting will provide an excellent learning opportunity by offering a variety of topics of interest to foot and ankle surgeons from all backgrounds.

NoosaNoosa, on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast is a popular beachside destination. It is surrounded by ocean, lakes, river, national parks and a lush hinterland.

Noosa is famous for its year-round mild climate and has an annual temperature of 25 degrees Celsius. The water temperature ranges from 19 degrees in winter to 25 degrees in summer.

Guest PresentersPierre Barouk - FranceDr Pierre Barouk is a member of the French Foot Surgery Association & the European Federation of Foot Societies. His interests are in all pathology of the foot and ankle, particularly pathologies of the forefoot. Dr Barouk was involved in the development of modern concepts of treatment of pathologies of the front foot; Osteotomy scarf and Weil. He was also involved in the publication of an original book on the subject of the retraction of gastrocnemius muscles or twin muscles of the calves bringing together the best specialists in the world of this newly recognized pathology and finds applications in many foot and ankle diseases including problems of plantar talalgia or Tendinitis of the Achilles tendon.

Anish Kadakia - USADr Anish Kadakia is a fellowship-trained Foot and Ankle Orthopaedic Surgeon who currently is Chief of Foot and Ankle at the University of Michigan. Dr Kadakia completed his undergraduate degree from Northwestern University with Distinction and received his medical degree from Northwestern University Medical School. After completion of orthopaedic residency at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, he undertook fellowship training with Dr Mark Myerson in Baltimore, Maryland. His research interests include ankle arthroplasty, syndesmotic injuries, posterior pilon injuries, and spring ligament reconstruction. Dr Kadakia has authored numerous publications and book chapters and most recently has been invited to be section editor for the foot and ankle section of Mercer’s Orthopaedics and guest editor for Foot and Ankle Clinics of North America. He is currently an Assistant Professor at the University of Michigan where he is involved in clinical care and the education of orthopaedic residents.

Tim Daniels - CanadaDr Tim R. Daniels is an orthopaedic surgeon & the Chief of the Division of Orthopaedic Surgery of St. Michael’s Hospital, Professor at the University of Toronto, Head of the University of Toronto Foot & Ankle program, and the Term Chair in Foot & Ankle Research. He has served on numerous national and international academic, research committees and organisations, most notably on the Board of Directors for the American Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Society (AOFAS). Dr Daniels is the recipient of the University of Toronto’s Orthopaedic Chair’s Teaching Award for contributions to orthopaedic education. He is also the recipient of the Award of Merit from Canadian Orthopaedic Association (COA). Nationally and internally, he is recognized as Canada’s top Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle surgeon and is the physician to whom other orthopaedists send their most complex and challenging foot and ankle cases. Dr Daniels trains fellows from all over Canada, US, Europe, Middle East, South Africa, Asia, Australia, New Zealand and South America. He is the co-founder and inaugural president of COFAS: Canadian Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society and the co-founder of the bicoastal Biennial Foot and Ankle Symposium.

Call for AbstractsScientific papers are invited for oral presentations. Authors should submit abstracts written in English to Taylored Images no later than 1700 Eastern Standard Time (EST) on Monday 10 July 2017. Papers received after this date will not be accepted for inclusion in this year’s program.

All abstracts submitted are subject to review by the Scientific Program Committee and will, if accepted, be assigned to either oral or poster presentation. Authors may indicate preference for oral (podium) presentation and/or poster presentation during the interactive Abstract submission process. Once abstracts have been accepted for presentation, no changes will be accepted to their content.
