Adapted Aquatics BeginningA small group class that focuses on gaining confidence in and around water, learning about general pool safety, and beginning the development of basic swimming skills.~Ages: 10 and up~Cost: $50/session (12 classes)~Days: Mon/Wed | 6:00p-7:00p~Session 1: January 7-February 13~Session 2: February 25-April 3~Session 3: April 15-May 22

Meet Serena HokeSerena Hoke received a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Kinesiology: Adapted Physical Activity and also in Outdoor Recreation Education from California State University of Monterey Bay in 2010. Serena then transferred to Slippery Rock University in Pennsylvania where she completed a one-year Master’s degree program also in Adapted Physical Activity. Before moving to Ashland in September 2011, she performed a summer internship with the City of Eugene Adaptive Recreation Department and upon completion her supervisor encouraged her to head towards Southern Oregon in order to start some of her own programs. Serena aims to be able to continue providing programs for individuals with disabilities/impairments within the community and to continue in expanding the variety of opportunities

Adapted Aquatics IntermediateA small group aquatics program for the more advanced swimmer that focuses on the continued development of stroke work, breathing skills, endurance, and confidence. Participants should be able to swim at least 25 yards (one pool length) without assistance. ~Ages: 10 and up~Cost: $50/session (12 classes)~Days: Mon/Wed | 7:15p-8:15p~Location: Ashland YMCA~Session 1 March 4-April 10~Session 2: April 15-May 22

*NEW*TOPStarsA playgroup for youth with disabilities where they can engage in activities and games that are dependent on their abilities. Participants are paired with high school students called “buddies”. ~Ages: 5-19~Days: Fridays~Dates: January-June School Days~Times: 4:00p-5:00p~Location: The Grove~Cost: Free~Instructor: Therrie Chouard

*New*Meet Therrie ChouardTherrie Chouard has been a soccer player his whole life. In 2005 he became an assistant varsity coach for the boys’ soccer team at Ashland High School and has also coached with the Ashland Soccer Club and the YMCA. Therrie has also been an Ashland Soccer Club board member and at one discussion he heard about a national program called TOPS that enables kids with various disabilities to play soccer. In 2005, he started a TOPSoccer program with the help of two high school students. In 2007 he was named “Coach of the Year” by the Oregon Youth Soccer Association. The TOPS program has since evolved into a playgroup for youth with disabilities with soccer being one

Programs for Everyone:Programs are for members of all communities including those in Ashland, Talent, Phoenix, Medford, Jacksonville, Klamath…everyone!

Build Your BodyWork one-on-one with the instructor or in a small group. This class aims to create an activity program that is both fun and based upon interests, abilities, and goals.
