The ifth show in the museum’s Alcoves 16/17 exhibit series continues throughDec. 4. Alcoves began in the early days of the museum, when artistscould sign up for small solo exhibits of their work. The currentshow, Alcoves 16/17 #5, contains displays by ive selectedartists —Mira Burack, Kelly Eckel, Shaun Gilmore, Dara Mark,and Signe Stuart — on view for a period of seven weeks.“This show ofered me an opportunity to showcase artists whoshare an interest in materials and processes,” curator Kate Warewrites. “I see a connecting thread among these bodies of workhaving something to do with a tension between simplicity andcomplexity.”

Burning Books, the publishing imprint of Santa Fe-based artists Michael Sumnerand Melody Sumner Carnahan, presents Twice Through theMaze, an exhibit ofworks from their book of the same title. The images lead the viewer on a mythic,time-bending journey with characters that combine “street level” personas withGreek gods and goddesses. The book Twice Through theMaze is available forpurchase at Phil Space during the exhibit’s run. The show is on view throughNov. 4. At 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 27, the gallery hosts a related performanceby Rod Harrison, with a prologue by Mary-Charlotte Domandi.
