FRIENDS

We here at Punctum always have a yen for doing stuff and right now the ‘stuff ’ we’re yenning to do is poetry;; yes that’s right, poetry…but not as you know it! We always have a yen to do it with others, and right now we ’re yenning to do it with you.

THE STUFF WE’RE YENNING TO DO

We’re talking about piloting a new model for ‘reading’ that breaks from the passivity of the traditional poet reads audience listensmodel. A model that highlights/harnesses the correlative aspects between poetry and other arts practices and provokes/invitesnew work.

POETRY

We’re talking about poetry as a catalyst for exchange/collaboration between poets, artists and audiences. We’re talking poetry asa springboard, poetry as conversation starter, poetry as pick up line ; we’re talking poetry as any number of approaches andpossible art collaborations – verbal, physical, intellectual, visual, ephemeral, social, political, mechanical, transcendental, musical – where we re-imagine the reading.

YOU

We’re talking about poets and artists. When we say poets we mean poets. When we say artists we mean; tap dancers, flautists,

sculptors, actors, tight rope walkers, animators, kazoo players, installation artists, hip hoppers, percussionists, sound artists, projectionists, painters, calligraphers, aerialists…you get the picture. And when we say you, we mean ‘you’ as in poets andartists together.

WHEN WE’RE YENNING TO DO IT

SESSION 1 – DECIDING – SAT 3RD MARCH

Intro to FDTDS & pairing of Poets and Artists

SESSION 2 – DOING – SAT 24TH MARCH

Poets and Artists investigate points of connection and spark ideas for new work

SESSION 3 – THE STUFF – SAT 14TH APRIL

Poets and Artists present new work/extend invitation to audience

(all sessions are 4hrs in duration and will be facilitated by the FDTDS creative producer and relevant Punctum creative personnel at the ICU, 1 Halford St, Castlemaine)

STUFF WE’RE YENNING TO DO A LITTLE BIT LONGER

We’re talking about a view to future development and presentations of work seeded in the FDTDS program at major arts festivalssuch as the Castlemaine State Festival and major arts venues such as The Newport Substation, in 2013

A NEW MODEL FOR THE PRESENTATION OF POETRY.

A model that departs from current “reading” practice by movingfrom the passive “poet reads, audience listens” model to one that

will

support creative collaboration and communication between

Australian artists from other disciplines and Australian poets

(with an emphasis on regionally based artists and poets)

and through these collaborations facilitate a more interactive

engagement between Australian poets/poetry and Australian

audiences in the instance of the “reading”.

Broadly speaking, a model that proposes a kind of “Scienceworks”

forum for poetry that at heart seeks to demystify poetry and to

combat negative preconceptions that traditionally prove barriers to

an engagement with poetry.
