President’s Message Allen Lewis
As of the last newsletter, my goal was to have all the commer-cial appliances purchased and in place by this newsletter. After a small freezer vs. ice machine skirmish, we accomplished that. The Henn Mansion now has a commercial refrigerator, freezer and convection oven. Both refrigerator and oven are capable of holding full-sized commercial trays. This allows fast, efficient processing of previously prepared food. Each improvement to the
Henn makes it increasingly attractive to people wishing to rent it for special occasions.
Our rentals have already increased considerably. This puts us closer to the Henn being able to support itself. We still rely heavily on volunteer help. The hostess committee in particular, keeps the Henn rentable. They do a fantastic job. The more Vicky rents out the Henn, the more JoAnn has to juggle her few remaining hostesses. She’s managing quite admirably. Our fund raisers are one of our other means of
support. The wine tasting in September and the flea market in April are currently the only two. Thank you for supporting these. We are attempting to add another, perhaps a January beer tasting and a November English tea. When you come to the potluck (Aug. 12
th),
check out the landscape around the Henn. Our Vice President, Bob Oster, volunteered his company, Green Source, to trim the bushes, remove a few, clean up the mess and change out the hard packed soil for top soil around the patio. Debbie Lewis, Deborah Kramarz and I also pitched in and

2014 Flea Market Ginny Petrie
It's been three months since our flea market. We cleared $6,000.00 and that is terrific. However, the really amazing thing for me is how a bunch of men, women, boys and girls come together each year and pull off this event. Each year it gets a little bit better.
This year my hat goes off to Leah McSween who came up with the doozie of an idea to put a “Quick check out” table in the living room. Deb Kramarz and her good buddies from PWP who helped in every way all week doing everything from washing to pricing to sending out emails about the Henn sale, to standing all day Saturday wrapping purchases.....thank you! And Debbie pulled off another one of her wonderful staging gems as she moved all over the house tweaking arrangements of goodies.
Then there was our president, Al and his wife Debbie who chair the antiques, and the boy scouts from East Shore United Methodist Church, who once again hauled all the boxes up from the basement. Let’s not forget Lee Guffey who keeps us up to speed on pricing and Rosemarie Wright and Pat Brady, along with Patty Burlingham who took over the accounting piece.
I KNOW I've missed a passel of people but know that you are the pride of the Henn Flea Market! Nancy Horvath, Bill and his team of zany wine folk, Susan Wright and her endless work upstairs....wasn't that a good use of space, and Betsy McCort and the never tiring Joanne Hanlon.
As I write this know that the basement is filling up faster than ever before with treasures for next year. Join us as we move forward for 2015. Email me with your ideas, willingness to help throughout the coming months, dates for pickup, or just let me know that you'd like to be involved as a newbie, or to let me know you will help again. Email: [email protected]. YEA TEAM!

we all got it done in one day with the new soil intact. The annuals we put in this year are filling in very nicely. Susan Wright, Debbie Lewis, Deborah Kramarz and Carole Price are keeping them watered. Bob Oster also replaced one of the large patio lamps that was damaged beyond repair. He put it up the same week it came in. Thank You! At the potluck this year, Jim Paskert will be our guest speaker. His topic is the Sultan shipwreck in Lake Erie. His presentation will begin at 6:30. Please plan to arrive by 6pm so you’ll have time to fill your plate and find a good seat. Afterward, we’ll have a short update meeting for anyone interested. Hope to see you there.
Arlene & Gooseberry Pie Ruth Simonis
Gooseberry pie is only one of the many unique things I love about my family. As it turned out, Arlene, the hostess during our 2008 family reunion held at the Henn, was all giddy when she joined us for lunch and found there was gooseberry pie on the dessert table. She loves that berry, too! Ever since, Arlene has sought to be our hostess whenever the reunion is held in Euclid. This year she got a surprise when Dorothy Simonis Denton, my cousin, made a whole pie for her to take home.
Dorothy said this year was a bumper crop. The berries even ripened up just in time for the reunion which was a few weeks earlier than usual. The gooseberry bushes originally grew in Marion, Ohio at the home of our paternal grand-parents. Before their home was sold in the early 1990's, Dorothy moved the bushes along with other cherished family plants such as rhubarb and peony bushes to Mans-field, Ohio. They remain there to this day.

Historic Restaurant Tour June Daugherty
On Wednesday, April 10, the Henn Restaurant group met for lunch at the Crop Bar and Bistro, 1400 West 6th St. at Lorain. In a 1926 Bank Building, the Crop not only has good food, but also has a beautifully detailed ceiling and vault that can be rented for private parties. Pictured are Mary Moeller, June & Doc Daugherty, JoAnn Hanlon, Bernie Raicevich and Roger Kelly. Sylvia Profenna and Carol Anderson visited on Thursday.
Note: across the street, The West Side market, also on the National Register is open Wednes-day, Friday and Saturday.
On October 16th, the Historic Restaurant Group will visit the Grovewood Tavern. The Grove-wood has an outstanding CIA-trained chef, an extensive wine list and outstanding reasonably priced cuisine. Call June at 216-261-1460 or email [email protected] for dinner reservations.
Henn Rentals JoAnn Hanlon
Rentals of the Henn Mansion for the first half of 2014 have been very, very plentiful. We have helped people celebrate many showers, birthdays & weddings. We’ve had business and student all-day retreats. We’ve hosted PPG Industries, the Hospice of the Western Reserve and the Cleveland Museum of Art i s r e t u r n i n g s o o n .
The total income for the first half of 2014 is $16,899. We are saying farewell to long-time host/hostess volunteers Dick and Norma Cowan and Virginia Gaudin and we’re welcoming Gisela Pacheco as a new hostess. As you know, every event requires a host/hostess to be on hand. Our pool of hosts/hostesses is shrinking so we would welcome some new additions. If you know of someone who’d like to help out during events or at Wednesday open house from 7-9pm, please contact me at 216/261-5654. There is no monthly minimum requirement. Remember, the rentals are the main source of income that supports the Henn.
Strolling East 200th Street Jim Fuertes
On May 31
st, 2014 the traffic was heavy. The
strollers were numerous and the businesses liked it. The Friends of the Henn Mansion’s table was in front of the old Euclid Race building, shaded by beautiful trees and a cool May breeze. Lolly the Trolley went up and down East 200
th
Street from Our Lady of the Lake church to Home Depot. The rocket ship was very popular with the children. The city council members watched the smiles of the Euclid residents. Mayor Cervenik shook as many hands as he could. This year more strollers showed up. The bands played tunes of the past and present. Same as previous years, the Euclid
police kept the order. For many of the strollers, their dreams of a crowded street was good enough to keep a permanent picture of that day. The young were there; the rest of us watched the new generation of Euclidian’s come of age. The East 200th Street Stroll has matured. The new generation will keep it moving forward. I will remember the crowds with a smile. The Henn Mansion has a lot of new friends.

We Joined the Parade Frank Hoffert
The Henn Mansion was well represented in Euclid’s Memorial Day parade on May 26. Friends of the Henn Mansion formed a contingent of seven people who were involved in the parade. Jim Bagocius and Frank Hoffert carried the Henn banner and
Debbie Kramanz, Ed Chenok, and Carole Freeham marched behind the banner distributing candy to the young parade watchers. Completing the Henn group was a beautiful classic Chevrolet station wagon driven by Striet Machinery owner, Boris Maryanovsky and accompanied by his wife. There were numerous cheers and a p p l a u s e from the p a r a d e spectators as our banner and g r o u p m a r c h e d a l o n g Lakeshore Boulevard and East 222
nd St.
Our appearance in the parade appears to have pleased those on the sidelines and increased our exposure in the community.
Memorial Bench Dedication Pat Brady
On June 29
th, 2014, members of the Henn family
reunited at the Henn and honored Robert Bruce and Josephine Henn with the dedication of a memorial
bench on the bluff overlook-ing Lake Erie behind the Henn Mansion. Opening re-marks were made by Sally (Henn) Razani followed by the
presentation of a memorial proclamation by Mayor Bill Cervenik, the unveiling of the b e n c h a n d sharing of many stories. Robert Sr., Josephine and their children lived on the estate in the “summer home” at 22931 Lake Shore Blvd. In the 1930s and early 1940s, Robert’s son, Robert Jr., his wife Virginia, their family and Jeannette Henn Mossburger, her husband Harley and their daughter also lived in the “summer home” for a time in the 1950s and 1960s. Carved on the front of the bench is
the Latin w o r d FUIMUS, the clan motto, which means “We have been. On your next visit to the Henn and Sims Park, be sure to walk to the
bluff and enjoy the view from this very special bench.
