Output of grant from SKC ‒ Research of relevance for the nuclear power

industry (MÅBiL and other relevant projects)

‒ University students who are educated in nuclear-power-related topics (Researchers ⇒ education)

‒ University students who do their thesis projects on nuclear-power-related topics (Researchers execute the supervision – often in collaboration with Swedish industry)

‒ Highly educated people who can be hired by the nuclear community.

Research (4): Fuel diagnostics in MÅBiL Within MÅBiL, a UU postdoc is financed to 50% by SKC to perform research within the OECD Halden Reactor Project and analyze advanced fuel experiments at the HBWR.

The goals of MÅBiL are supported by addressing fuel performance under regular and transient conditions, with long-term focus on Accident-Tolerant Fuels.

‒ An agreement has been settled with the management of OECD-HRP to have a postdoc from Uppsala university in Halden during 2015-2016.

‒ The management of OECD-HRP support the research plan presented within MÅBiL.

Presentation tomorrow 11:45-12:45: Peter Andersson: ”Nuclear Fuel Diagnostics within MÅBiL in collaboration

with the Halden Reactor Project”

Plans within fuel diagnostics Our aims are to:

• Contribute to OECD-HRP’s world-leading capabilities to characterize nuclear fuel by means of using the novel tomographic device that we took part in designing, building and demonstrating,

• Present unique possibilities to extract detailed information on fuel behaviour during irradiation, by analyzing various radioisotopes in between test irradiations in the HBWR,

• Engage in research on fuel behaviour and release of radioactive products during accident scenarios, by assessing fuel subject to transient tests (ATF and other fuels) .

Helium production in SS

For every inferred parameter an uncertainty can be associated

Petter Helgesson (09:00): MÅBiL project: ”Improved nuclear data for material damage applications in LWR spectra”

TMC – Måbil - goals

• Improve methods to include both differential and integral experimental data

• Assess uncertainties in aging parameters, e.g. flux, DPA, and gas production

• Asses nuclear data properties of new reactor materials and its impact on reactor operation.

“…demonstrated that significant uncertainties remain regarding both the development of nuclear data and the use of these data by the materials modeling community to determine the primary damage state obtained in irradiated materials. “

Primary Radiation Damage: from nuclear reaction to points defects • Going al the way from nuclear

reactions to material defects requires physics on many levels.

• From IAEA techinal meeting (F4-TM-43223):

Goal: Build competence and knowledge in the interface nuclear data / material science

• revisit the NRT standard for its improving by the inspection of recoil spectra and by the evaluation of uncertainties;

• check evaluated gas production cross sections and make recommendations.
