Staff Corner Digitally Implemented Modulator

- Prof. Kavita Monpara (Lecturer, EC Dept.) In the satellite communication, as we know that power and bandwidth are most important parameter. For both the parameters one of the modulation technique QPSK modulations is used in satellite communication. In digital modulator, there are mixer, 90 degree phase shifter, adder, local oscillator devices are used. All they are analog devices. So there are some limitations like

aging, Frequency sensitiveness, temperature sensitiveness are present due to these analog components. In on board processing system, these limitations degrade the performance of this modulator. As we know that for satellite communication miniaturization of circuit is very important. So the new approach in satellite communication eliminates all the limitations which are facing due to presence of analog components. For on board processing system of satellite if we use digital component instead of the analog components than all these limitations can be removed. For satellite communication the circuit is develop for particular specifications. If we use digital devices, we can get variable data rate of modulation. We can develop the circuit in which carrier is generated digitally. There is a great emphasis on the minimization of hardware and less power consumption in SATCOM. The new approach minimizes the component count and hence reduces the PCB size. In this approach summation, orthogonal sub carrier generation and mixing of sub carrier with data rate are all digitally implemented inside the FPGA. Earlier each of this function was being implemented by external

analog components. So the components count was more leading to bigger PCB size. It is also cost effective. So this new approach is very useful in SATCOM. And after some time, it will launch for future satellite mission. The block diagram shows QPSK modulator for new approach with comparison to the general QPSK mode.

*Someday* *Someday I might be there, * *Someday we'll be together....* *Just like the rain waits for the call,* *And to its mother earth she would fall.* *Cold hours play by,* *I still stay warm upon the sky...* *For you... For you...* *Like the wings of mother protect the baby's cry...* *I decorate in sweat,* *The oceans, beaches, trees and grasses wet,* *For your feet shall touch it one day;* *And your life will then be all beautiful nights, no sun to set. * *But you're still far away,* *Don't know, I'll be able to cross the way;* *But I keep walking... to you,* *May be someday I'll find you too...* *Among the heavy trees, and high grass,* *I still try to catch a sight of you as I pass,* *Like a shepherd I play the tune, though not with the flute,* *In a hope u shall return as a lost sheep to its mass.* *O! My snake, return to your master, * *For I'll play the music for you to dance till I die, * *O! My flower, come back to shine,* *For I'll never ever allow the sun to fare good-bye.* *Thus I keep walking on this very path,* *And gather all the thorns and wounds;* *For I know one day, we'll walk this path back together,* *With no pain, no wounds and no sorrow.....*
