Past Grand Knight Honored

Grand Knight Steve Snyder honors Brother Adrian

Rodriguez, the previous Grand Knight, and presented

him with the Grand Knight pin, honoring his service to

the Council for the past two fraternal years. During his

tenure as Grand Knight, Brother Rodriguez worked dili-

gently to insure that the Council is regarded a vital part

of the parish structure. He insisted that all Knights wear

their KC identification tags to all parish functions. It

was important that the Knights be recognized by the

members of the parish for the good works of support and

charity that are provided to our parish.

The District Deputy, Mike Courtney, also presented to

Adrian and the Council the Texas State Charities

Award recognizing the continuous years that the Coun-

cil has met its charitable obligations.

I thank you again for your confidence and

the honor of being your Grand Knight for our

Council’s 36th year. Each of us have bene-

fited from the Men that have come before us, all Catholic

Men with the guidance of our Lord and Savior, Jesus

Christ. Father Michael J McGivney initiated an organiza-

tion of Fraternity that has grown to an amazingly solid

foundation that we as Knights can join.

As I start the fraternal year, my initial goal is to engage

more communication with all 284 plus members of our

Council. To do this we have started a Communication

committee which is assisting in broadcasting our events,

activities, needs and recruitment quickly to all the Broth-

ers.

Food Drive

Food Pantries in the area are extremely low as corporate

donations during summer decline. To help we have a

Food Drive scheduled on September 10 and September

11. This is right around the corner . We will need all

hands on deck to support this Food Drive for both Net-

work Food Pantry of Richardson and Good Samaritan of

Garland Food Pantry. This event was started and contin-

ued by our late Brothers Paul Sine and Elmer Resko.

May they rest in peace. We can continue this successfully

in their memory.

Clergy Appreciation Dinner

On October 27 we will honor and support in Fellowship

our Clergy. Please put this on your calendar now.

I encourage all of you to take advantage of the opportu-

than our own Brother Kevin Quinn. Please do take this

land Food pantries. We will need a minimum of six Knights

after Mass to collect at each one of the exits from the church.

Festival Spaghetti Dinner under the Big Top followed by

Bingo. A large number of volunteers is required to prepare the

meal, serve the meal, and assist in the set up and clean up.

Please volunteer your time in support of the parish. Assistants

are also required to insure that the bingo games following the

meal are well organized. Contact Isaac Sandoval to learn how

you can help.

Saturday, October 22

St. Joseph Festival. Begins at twelve noon on the church

grounds. The Council will operate a booth selling hamburgers,

hot dogs, and beverages. This provides an excellent opportu-

nity to enjoy the festival and serve the public with quality food

and beverages. Sign-up sheet will be available at the business

meeting or you can volunteer on line.

Thursday, October 27

Clergy Appreciation Dinner. St. Joseph Room. This is the

one event you do not want to miss. It is a great opportunity to

thank our clergy for the good that they do.

Montserrat Retreat – A Rewarding Weekend Experience!

Please plan to join your Brother Knights from St. Jo-seph Council as well as Brothers from other Councils in the Dallas Diocesan Council, at our annual retreat held at Montserrat Retreat House on the shores of beau-tiful Lake Lewisville, from Thursday evening, Septem-ber 15 to Sunday noon, September 18. A retreat is a chance to get away from the routine of your life and look at how God has loved you. It’s a chance to look at how you have responded to that love, and how you will respond to it in the future. You will be in a graceful, secluded and prayerful lake-side setting with a private room and bath and good food. You will value the deep silence, the individual counseling, the quiet reflection periods and the series of inspiring lectures following the Spiritual Exercises of Saint Ignatius of Loyola. There is no set fee for a retreat. You are asked to give

what you can afford. The cost to Montserrat is $130 per

night ($390 per retreat attendee) and contributions can

be made over several months. Also, VISA and Master-

Card are accepted.

Raising Life Insurance Awareness

E ach September since 2003 has been designated as

Life Insurance Awareness Month.

Like most awareness-raising campaigns, Life Insurance

Awareness Month was created because there is an over-

whelming lack of understanding of life insurance, its uses,

its benefits, and its variations among the general public.

Each year, the Life Insurance Market Research Associa-

tion (LIMRA) puts out the results from a recent survey,

and unfortunately, the numbers they report continue to be

discouraging.

A recent survey found that more than 75 percent of peo-

ple polled did not have a personal financial advisor, even

though 68 percent of them said their opinion of the cur-

rent economic conditions was somewhat unfavorable or

very unfavorable.

In other words, a majority of those surveyed were uncom-

fortable with the economy and the uncertainty it brings,

yet they did not seek professional assistance. Maybe they

spoke with their friends and family. Maybe they hoped

the instability would go away on its own. Maybe they did

not know to whom they could turn for help.

If you fall into this category, please remember that as a

member of the Knights of Columbus, you have a full-

time, professional agent you can call your own. My pri-

mary responsibility is the care and service of your fam-

ily’s life insurance, retirement and long-term care needs.

I’ll answer your questions because I want your decisions

to be informed ones. I want to help.

Another LIMRA statistic said 43 percent of people did

not buy life insurance because they worry about “making

the wrong decision.” Talk with me, your agent, and, after-

wards, you’ll understand that the only wrong decision was
