What a dramatic change in the weather. It is nice to see all thePrep students rugged up in their winter clothing. Can everyonemake sure that jumpers are labelled just in case they go walkabout. When students take their jumpers off they are to gostraight into their school bags and not worn around the waist.Talking about clothing, we were lucky enough to have a hugepython skin that was found on the Maifredi premises. Our classsat on either side when it was stretched out to discover thatit was longer than us and we discovered many shapes andrepeating patterns. What a beautiful coat! Thanks for letting ussee such a wonderful discovery!

The colour fun run was also a great success and getting hoseddown at the end of the day topped it off just nicely. Another fun

event this Friday the 28th of May is the crazy hair day. Don`tforget to get your imaginations fired up and get that hair wildand free. Gold coin donation towards the prep garden.

Yesterday students took their Technology planning sheet hometo gather the materials they require. This planning sheet, together with their materials, needs to be returned by Mondayso students can start making their puppet. Just a reminder thatmaterials can be substituted if necessary. There were somegreat designs and I’m looking forward to seeing themeventuate.

On Friday, we are looking forward to having our local Fire andRescue visit our classroom to teach us about fire safety. Thisvisit will be followed up by the Fire truck at a later date.

We have been reading both traditional and fractured fairytalesand creating character profiles on the main character. Studentshave compared both characters and identified the similaritiesand differences then determined a preference for a particularcharacter. It’s been a fun English unit.

Just a reminder that Sight Words books must be returned eachday in the Reading Folder so that up-to-date sheets can beglued in. It’s pleasing to see that many students are makingsignificant progress and on track to meet the benchmark withinthe specified timeframe. Homework books need to be broughtin each Friday to be marked and updated with new spelling andMaths sheets.

Last Friday we had so much fun at the Colour Explosion!

Enjoy the remainder of the week.

Year 3/4Year 3/4

What a fun and busy week of learning! It’s hard to believe thatwe are now in Week 6. We have commenced most of ourassessments and it is vital that your child attend school duringthis time. Semester one reports should be available by the endof this term.

Students HASS assessment and two of their Mathassessments has been marked. It is wonderful to see somestudents reading questions carefully and putting more effort intotheir assessment tasks.

All students have completed writing their final assessment inEnglish where they had to write an imaginative story aboutovercoming fear. It is fantastic to see them carefullyproofreading and editing their final work. As I mentioned earlier, the student’s English assessment task is linked with Media

Art assessment task where students will then use their writtenstory to develop animation characters. They have been workingextremely hard for the last few weeks learning how to use theMicrosoft word, PowerPoint presentation and a software called‘storyboardthat.com’. Their final piece of work will be presentedin front of the class and hopefully they’ll get a chance to makea book.

In Health, we have been learning and discussing about heritageand culture. As part of their assessment, students are requiredto conduct a research about their family history. This week, students will be given some questionnaires to take home tocollect information. Your time would be much appreciated.

This week Science investigation, students will be working insmall group settings to investigate a question ‘Which cup willkeep liquid the hottest?’ They will conduct the investigationby comparing four different cups to determine which cup willkeep the liquid the hottest. Student will use the thermometerand clock to obtain the results. Students will then discuss theirprediction, findings and whether the investigation was fair ornot. Their next investigation is about ‘Cooling bowls’ and theyshould resume their Science task by Week 7.

In Maths, Year 3 students are currently revisiting the place valueand number expander while our Year 4 students continue tolearn the concepts of odd and even numbers.

As you can see, while we have a busy week of learning, itis important that students have a small break in the morning(outdoor activities and brain breaks); as well as incorporatingour learning with the General Capabilities that is learning howto be creative, working as a team and learning how to beresponsible. Our ‘pride project’ with the gardening and plantstall has been a fantastic way to learn lifelong skills.

Weekly News about our PRIDE PROJECTWeekly News about our PRIDE PROJECT

A huge thanks to my wonderful team for raising $207.50.Money raised will go towards our upcoming projects, that is,building a green house, extending the fruits trees initiallydeveloped by the Year 5/6 class as well as buying someequipment for our school garden. It is a major responsibility andthere’s a lot of work involved but it has been amazing to seehow community getting together to help us with this project. Amassive thanks to MsMs JanJan Cois-TullochCois-Tulloch for donating 30 plantslast week. Your kind generosity is much appreciated. Pleasecontinue to support our pride project by checking our weeklyweeklyspecials.specials. This week, students have decided to sell 7 small potplants and 2 packets of seeds for $5, they are normally worth$1 each; or buy 4 medium pot plants and 2 packets of seedsfor $10, they are normally worth $3.00 for 1 pot. Most of all, thanks to Ms CadbyMs Cadby for being our loyal customer. Thank you ?

Year 4/5/6Year 4/5/6

We are absolutely rocketing towards the end of term- alreadyover halfway!

This week we have welcomed Miss Wallace back in to ourclassroom for the next 4 weeks. It is her final placement andshe will be teaching us in preparation for a class of her own.

We have been super busy getting things done in Year 4/5/6. This week we are focusing on finishing off our Englishassessment tasks, which is a poetry analysis; except we’vechosen a song to analyse instead! Once we’ve finished offthis English unit, Miss Wallace is going to take us through anexamining media texts unit, which means we will start analysingdifferent types of news articles.

We have been exploring an environment for our creature tosurvive in for science. Most of us have identified anenvironment, and now we are working towards constructing ananimal that have specific adaptations that allow it to survive, using real-life examples from real-life creatures! We need tobe able to explain what we have chosen and why it helps itsurvive, and if the environment was to suddenly change, wouldour creature have the adaptations necessary to continue on orwould it become extinct?Speaking of science, last week we were able to have animpromptu adaptations lesson when a little visitor popped into say g’day! Affectionately known as Jimmy, a brown treesnake slithered by to say hello before making its escape tosomewhere safe.

We are excited to be able to start work on our technologies andarts tasks too! We’ve been exploring Scratch and beginning toform an idea about our maze games, and in arts we’ve vieweda few different artworks in preparation for our stop motioncreation!

Next week, student council are planning on organising an eventfor World Environment Day- watch this space!
