He is bringing the right people for such a me as this and is revelling himself daily in this ministry we call GBC. I will be travelling to the CSA Leaders retreat next week and look forward to some great teaching and bringing new and fresh ideas back to the College community. While I am away, Mrs Angela Dredge (Lower Primary Team Leader) will be acng Principal – along with the support of the leadership team. I know the College is in good hands. What a fantasc night we had at the GBC Science Fair – which is a celebraon of all things Science. This year’s theme was ‘Future Earth’ and the students all did an amazing job. While not everyone could exhibit their projects – the calibre was of a high standard – and it was great to see our students really excelling at something of their own choosing. It was fantasc to hear from the students about how passionate they were about their projects and we have some real budding Sciensts in the making. Thank you to the Teachers who supported the students during this project and for the many hours of marking that went into the assessments. We also thank Jayde McKenzie for being a great judge – I know she wanted to give more awards – but she was really impressed at the knowledge of GBC students. A special thank you to Melissa Knox, who put the whole evening together. We really appreciate your passion for Science and for making the night a huge success. Another sad goodbye is to Melissa Knox – who will be leaving us at the end of the term. We have really appreciated your mulple talents and you are a tesmony to our community. We hope you are blessed as you join Cameron in NSW and we will miss your whole family. The place won’t be the same without you! Lastly, I want to bring to the light an issue that our teenagers (and even younger) are experiencing. Social Media is something that many of us have, but it can be such a destrucve force if used regularly. As a society we have started to live out our lives on Social media. This causes a twofold problem – how will it be interpreted and what message are we really giving for everyone to see. This is the world that our kids have to grow up in – and it is robbing relaonships and causing real life problems – especially in the realm of Mental Health and self-esteem. As a College, our job is not to police social media but to educate and we always look for opportunies to have discussions with our young people and the wider community. GBC is not immune to students living their lives on Social media and bringing it to school for us to deal with. This can really have an effect on learning and the environment in which we do business. As a Principal – I am asking parents to please have a talk with your children and work out a family strategy on social media use. Parents are the number one influence on the use of media as they are generally accountable for the billing and our kids will watch our example. It is also important that if any student feels that social media issues are becoming negave to report it to parents straight away. While the College cannot do much about the content or teenage use of social media at home – if there is proof of bullying or negave behaviours – we may intervene as per our behaviour or enrolment policies. Remember, anything posted is on a public domain and even with the strictest privacy sengs – can easily be copied and redistributed. Our digital fingerprint remains forever – both posive and negave – which will have an effect on our kids geng future employment. Blessings, Craig Dates for Your Diary... What does the Bible say...OffensesIn Matthew 18:7 the Bible says that “Woe to the world because of offenses! For offenses must come, but woe to that person by whom the offense comes!”As long as we live on earth offenses will always come. Wherever there are two or more people, offences will be present. Every second of our lives here on earth we are probably offending someone or we are being offended by others, whether we like it or not. Even though offense are bound to come into the system, the scriptural verse above says that “woe to the person by whom the offense comes”. This means

that great sorrow or distress or misery will come to the person who allows himself/herself to offend other people. The way we must treat offense is to determine that we will try our best not to offend other people deliberately. We must also determine that no matter what other people do or say we will try not to be offended. The ability not to be offended, though difficult to attain, is the simplest way we can avoid being upset and allowing people to ruin our day, or possibly our lives. Making yourself offense-proof will go a long way to help you live a better life.

GBC SCIENCE FAIR 2017Last night, the Secondary College held their annual Science Fair. Students had been working on their projects at home for the past 6 weeks either on their own or in groups. All students who achieved an A-grade were invited to participate in the evening. We were very lucky to have guest judge, Jayde McKenzie- the co-ordinator of the Kalgoorlie Science Teachers’ Network to help award prizes to our students. The standard of work blew the minds of staff, parents and our judge, who had such a difficult narrowing down the winners to just 5.

Congratulations to all our students for all their hard work, in particular our winners:

Teacher Choice Awards:DJ Walker - Year 8 Georgia Amphlett - Year 10 Dylan De Swardt - Year 8 Loughlin Watson - Year 7

Another thank you to our sponsors, Hobbyworld Kalgoorlie and Batteries N More, for assisting us with the prizes for our students this year.

Judge’s Prizes:5th: Kenji Soho, Nathan Pretorius and Harrison Webb - Year 74th: Katrina Roxas, Albertine Bona and Emma Eguchi- Fergusson - Year 103rd: Ethan Oberlin-Brown - Year 72nd: Marni Richter - Year 91st: Cameron Gray - Year 7

Big thank you to Mr Andrew Fyfe, Mrs Liz Wiese and Mr Gill for all your help in the preparation of the evening. Thank you to the P&F for their help with running the sausage sizzle and a BIG thank you to Seni Gair who provided the coffee machine and ingredients for the yummy hot drinks we had for sale.

The challenge has been set with Matific’s Maths Competition!

Matific, an online Primary Maths resource is running a Maths competition and we are excited to be taking part!

The Matific Games, which concludes on September 13, 2017, awards students as they progress

through the educational activities with stars. The more our students play, the more stars are collected and the higher the chance of winning the major prize of $20,000 cash!

The best part about this great competition is that screen time, really is learning time with Matific

- a recent academic study showed that Matific helped improve students’ Maths test results by 34%

So let's all get into the competitive spirit and show other schools in our area

what we are made of.
