Nancy Young Elementary PTA 2012-2013

From the PTA President...

Dear Young families,

I hope everyone had a wonderful Spring Break! It is hard to believe there are only two months left of school this year. I am not sure if I believe the groundhog that told us we will be having an early spring. Hoping warmer weather will arrive soon.

I would like to thank everyone who participated in the Technology Drive. We have raised $2,275 so far, and the money received will be used to purchase iPads for our school. We will continue to accept donations throughout April. However, the raffle drawing will be held on April 5th for the 4 Bulls Tickets, so please make your donation before that date if you would like to be a part of the drawing. Anyone who donated $100 or more will be entered into this raffle. We will announce the lucky winner at the end of the day at school. Good Luck!

I would also like to thank Robin Schoolman and Jennifer Radina for organizing Mother/Son Night. It sounds like laser tag was a blast! Thank you to all who came out for this evening of pizza, arcade games, and laser tag.

Last month, we enjoyed a great restaurant combo event at Jersey Mike’s and Lulu’s FroYo. Thank you to Wendy Balda for arranging this event and to all who came out and supported our school.

We are looking forward to some fun Grade Level Parties in April.

Fourth Grade State Fair is a favorite for many. Tammi Arostegui has been working hard to coordinate all the amazing details that makes this such a great event. The performance will take place at 7pm on Wednesday, April 24th, and the State Fair Curriculum Party will be the following day, April 25th.

The Second Grade will share in an Earth Day Party on April 19th. This is a great way for our second graders to celebrate Earth Day and learn about the environment.

The First Grade classes are looking forward to their Solar System Party on April 26th. Our parent volunteers are planning a special craft, astronaut exercises, and some great space games for this party.

Don’t forget Spring Pictures on April 10th!

Please join us at our next PTA Meeting on Tuesday, April 16th. The kindergarten team will present at this meeting.

Have a great Day!

Dear Young Families, Welcome back from spring break. We are now in the fourth quarter of the school year. In this last portion of the year, we continue to focus our attention on helping Young students learn and discover new skills and concepts in all subject areas. This month, Run Club starts for our students. We are excited to see this fun, exercise filled intramural begin. Run Club leads up to the annual PTA Dolphin Dash on Saturday, May 11th. The Dolphin Dash is always such great fun for the family. We look forward to seeing our families in attendance at this event. Registration:Spring is the time that we begin our preparations for the upcoming school year. 2013-2014 registration packets will go home with students on Friday, April 12. (Kindergarten families may pick up their registration packet beginning Monday, April 15.) Also, if you or a neighbor has an incoming kindergarten or a student new to Young at any grade level, please contact the school office to complete a pre-registration form. 2013-2014 Walk-in RegistrationPlease place the following dates on your calendar for walk-in registration: April 29 and April 30 from 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm. All parents are required to attend walk-in registration to turn in registration packets on April 29 or April 30. If you are unable to attend walk-in registration on either of these dates and times, please contact the office to make alternative arrangements. Parent Input FormEach registration packet will contain an optional Parent Input Form. This optional form gives parents a chance to share information about the type of learning environment that best meets their child’s needs. It also gives parents the chance to share other items that parents feel the school needs to be aware of in regards to classroom placement. Please note that the school does not recognize or accept specific teacher requests. Young has a staff of excellent educators who all bring their own special strengths and talents to their classrooms. I have complete confidence that your child will learn in any classroom at Young Elementary and will emerge from that classroom with a continued enthusiasm and love of learning. We are very appreciative of the support we received from our parents during the administration of the ISAT. Young 3rd-5th grade students truly worked very hard and put forth their best efforts as they completed their exams. Thank you also to the PTA for providing each 3rd-5th grade student with testing snacks and a sharpened pencil. We enjoyed seeing all of you at Open House this week. In addition, we look forward to seeing our parent volunteers on April 18th at the Parent Volunteer Appreciation Brunch from 8:30 am – 9:30 am in the MPR. As always, please call Young School regarding questions, comments or concerns that you would like to share. We thank our Young community for your continued support. Happy Spring!Adrienne Morgan,Principal

On Tuesday, April 16th, the McDonalds at 425 North Eola Road in Aurora will be holding a Restaurant Night to benefit Nancy Young Elementary. From 4:30 - 8:00 p.m., 10% of all sales will benefit our school.

You will not want to miss seeing some of our own NYE staff helping out behind the counter. Invite your friends and family, because all sales that night at the McTeacher's Night are included, and you do not need a flier to participate. We hope to see you there!

Attention Young Sons' Night participants!

We were lucky enough to have some parent photographers at Luigi's on March 15th and they were able to catch some great photos of all the fun! Please check them out by using the following link:

http://nyesonsnight2013.shutterfly.com By using this link, you will be able to view the photos, save them to your own computers, purchase them and even upload any that you may have. A big thank you to Blee Nichols, Carrie Czarnik and Zach Van Cleve for taking photos for us!

YOUNG SON’S NIGHT

The Memory Book Committee is working hard to make this year’s Memory Book something truly special for YOUR Nancy Young Dolphin, and we need YOUR help!

Each child will have a half page section with information all about them. The Memory Book team will take a photo of them in their classroom this spring. In addition to this year’s photo, we would love to include a photo of your student from Kindergarten. This photo can be their school photo or a favorite candid shot from home – you will get them back!

You can send the photo to school – please write your child’s name and classroom teacher on the back of the photo and place it in an envelope marked 5th Grade Memory Book Photo. You can also send the photo via email to [email protected] – whichever is easiest for you.

Please send photos NO LATER THAN MAY 1ST to ensure time to include them in the Memory Book.

If you have questions about the Memory Book, please feel free to contact Robin Schoolman at [email protected] or Amy Coryell at [email protected].

Say Yes to Technology at Nancy Young!Throughout our district , there has been a huge push for technology. Due to decreased state funding, many schools and PTAs have championed their own fundraising efforts to purchase iPads, tablets, smart boards, and more. We too, want to provide the best equipment and opportunities for our students.

If we each make a small donation, and come together as a school community, we can generate enough money to purchase iPads for our school. Ms. Morgan met with the teachers and staff, and they are in agreement that 30 iPads would fulfill the greatest need at our school. This will develop 21ST Century skills for our students and enhance their learning potential. Our recommended donation is $15 per child that you have currently enrolled at Nancy Young, but of course, any and all donations will be accepted and greatly appreciated.

Your donation to the PTA is tax-deductible. Our Nancy Young PTA is a not-for-profit organization that is recognized by the state as a 501 (c) (3). A receipt will be provided upon your request. Anyone who donates more than $100 will be entered into a raffle to win 4 Bulls tickets, compliments of Scott Sonnenberg, Senior Director, Corporate Partnerships for the Chicago Bulls.

If you have an opportunity to receive matching funds through your business or organization, please consider this as well. Our FIN is 36-4289394 and may be submitted to your company for a tax-deductible donation.

Please consider partnering with us by returning the bottom section of this form along with a check made out to NYE PTA.

Thank you!!

DOLPHIN DEPOT

BOX TOPS

Have your students visited the Dolphin Depot lately?

The NYE PTA offers a “school store” for our students that is stocked with inexpensive school supply items for purchase. The Dolphin Depot is set up in the Multi-Purpose Room on (most) Thursday mornings from 8:50am – 9:05am for our Young Dolphins to shop for supplies and other fun items. Prices for most items range from $0.05 to $2.00. Here are some of the fun and useful items students can purchase:

Please check the schedule below to see which week your student’s grade is invited to shop! Send your student with some pocket money (that perhaps they have earned!), so they can practice adding amounts, counting change, and being responsible with money. SMALL bills are greatly appreciated, and we DO NOT accept checks or credit cards.

Thursday, April 4th - all gradesThursday, April 11th - all gradesThursday, April 25th - all grades

Please be sure to remind your student to check in with their classroom teacher BEFORE going to the Dolphin Depot to avoid being marked tardy.

If you have any questions about the Dolphin Depot school store, please contact Beth Zeitner at 630-499-9664 or [email protected] or Amy Coryell at 630-585-9026 or [email protected].

THANK YOU to all the families that sent in their box top labels throughout the school year. You did a FABULOUS job!

Our budget goal was to make $1,800 and we made a total of $2,400. That means the NYE families brought in a total of 24,000 box tops.

THANK YOU!!

** PLEASE NOTE that all box tops that are collected through the remaining of this school year will be applied toward the October 2013 shipment. **

THANK YOU again to the Spirit Council for counting the labels weekly. This is a HUGE help for the PTA.

Do you shop online? If so, the PTA has found an easy way to earn additional funds at no cost to you! By simply beginning every online shopping trip at www.SchoolStore.com, rather than just going to the sight directly, you can make this happen.

It is as easy as 1, 2, 3, 4……

1) Go to www.Schoolstore.com

2) When the Welcome to School Store box pops up, type in “ Nancy Young” for the school name

3) OR you can go the Find Your School link and type in Nancy Young there.

4) Click the vendor of your choice and you will be directed to their website. Once a purchase has been made, our PTA will receive a portion of that sale.

There is no paperwork to fill out! Just remember when you order ANY merchandise online to please go through SchoolStore.com first. You can place the SchoolStore.com icon in your toolbar to serve as a reminder when making online purchases. Tell family and friends about SchoolStore.com and your child could receive prizes.
