We have also worked on numerous projects throughout the year, these will be highlight in this year’s Annual Report which is set to be circulated to all members in February 2013. The Atlantic Truck Show Rolls into Moncton in 2013 Moncton, NB - The Atlantic Truck Show (ATS) will be rolling into the Hub City June 7—8, 2013. The Moncton Coliseum will play host to Atlantic Canada’s largest and most inclusive trucking show.

In 2011, nearly 12,000 visitors streamed through the gates during the two-day event and they did not leave disappointed. Visitors and exhibitors alike are still talking about the success of that edition and Show Management plans to meet or exceed that in 2013.

The 2013 event, which is the 15th edition, promises to be an outstanding business opportunity and will surely ramp up sales. The ATS is where decision makers come to source out new products and to see the latest in commercial truck and transportation equipment. Fleet managers, truck buyers and distributors want to talk with sales and technical staff face to face to plan their next purchase. This has become THE must-attend industry event.

“The market in Atlantic Canada is thriving,” says Show Manager Mark Cusack. “This was evident at the Atlantic Heavy Equipment Show in 2012 and if the last edition of the Atlantic Truck Show was any indication, this should be a banner year as well,” explained Cusack.

“Exhibit sales are way ahead of our last edition at this stage of the game. We are sitting at nearly 75% sold out at this point and we could not be more pleased,” said Cusack.

Many trucking and logistic companies in the region are in growth mode, which means they will be modernizing and expanding their fleets and facilities. Companies are hunting for new talent and the show will also return with the “Recruiting Here” feature. Visitors will be encouraged to come with resume in hand and to meet with HR representatives from companies who are hiring.

The ATS is the ideal venue to witness the launch of the newest and most innovative products on the market that are paramount to the trucking and transportation industry, including trucks, trailers, engine components and parts manufacturers, as well as services catering to the heavy and medium duty truck industry.

Study predicts far more new logistics jobs than qualified workers over next 4 years U.S. companies are expected to create more than 1 million logistics-related jobs in the next four years, but educational institutions are currently turning out a small fraction of the trained workers that will be needed, a new study shows.

The shortfall will make it more difficult for companies to expand sales and will raise product costs for consumers, said Page Siplon, executive director of the Georgia Center of Innovation for Logistics, which conducted the study.

“The logistics industry is expected to create 270,200 job openings per year to keep up with demand and growth of the industry,” said Siplon. “The nation’s 7,642 educational institutions currently generate 75,277 formally trained, degreed or certified workers each year. This will fill about 28% of the related job openings that are expected to be made available every year.”

Fleets Should Expect Rising Premiums for Insurance Coverage, Experts Say Fleets should expect rising insurance premiums, especially for property/casualty and workers’ compensation lines, executives and insurance brokers said.

“Talk is out there that agents are telling carriers that the market is hardening,” said Ray Kuntz, CEO of Watkins & Shepard Trucking and chairman of American Trucking Associations’ Insurance Task Force. “The return on investment for insurance companies goes up and down, but now it’s pretty marginal. If those returns go negative or flat for an extended amount of time, then insurers have to make up for it in other ways.”

The exit of one major underwriter in October also has affected the overall market.

“There’s a firming of the market now. We’re seeing increases of 5% or more on premium rates across the board, year-over-year, on auto liability if you’re doing ‘OK’ on your losses,” said Ronald Inberg, executive vice president of insurance broker McGriff, Seibels & Williams. “It could be 15% to 20% if you’re not ‘OK’ on claims. For workers’ comp it’s more like 8%,” said Inberg, who specializes in trucking coverage.

As toll hike is delayed, NY thruway's credit rating looms When it formally proposed a 45 percent toll hike on commercial trucks, the Thruway Authority was clear and direct in the state’s official register. “These toll rate adjustments will be fully implemented by October 2012.” That was in June, and October has since come and gone. More than three-and-a-half months after its full board last met and six months after unveiling its plan to hike tools, an expected end-of-the-year meeting with a major rating agency looms large as the authority struggles to maintain its credit rating.

Ceres Terminal Reminder – Truck failing to stop Ceres Terminal are having safety issues with trucks not coming to a complete stop at the stop signs clearly painted on the asphalt ,as they are exiting the yard prior to entering the off ramp/gate. This terminal is extremely busy with heavy industrialized equipment continually on the move. As trucks are exiting when they fail to come to a complete stop they expose themselves & other workers to danger, coming out from between container sections, completely blind to the right & left.
