PEDRO DESULME—Our Compassion International Child
For the past 5 months, the Sunday School tithe has been dedicated to
Compassion International and the specific sponsorship of Pedro. We
are excited to announce that the kids have raised over $570 to contin-
ue his sponsorship. This money helps, fund his health care, nutrition,
education, etc. Plus, through letters we keep encouraging him to con-
tinue building his relationship with Christ. Thank you all for your sup-
port!
STILL OPENINGS FOR PRAYER PARTNERS!
Our church is blessed to send two teams of mission
trip participants out this summer to do God’s work. The “Week of
Hope” team is service orientated and will head to Indianapolis July 9 –
14th. The Group Work Camp team will head to Pocahontas, VA July 15
– 23.
What we need: Any aged person willing to pre-write notecards for each
day that the mission trip participant is away. These notes could include
a personal message, upbeat Bible quotes, stickers, non-chocolate can-
dy, gum, little trinket items in an envelope, etc. It isn’t difficult to do
and it makes a huge impact. Please contact Kari
([email protected]) if you would like to take this opportunity to

The Bottom Line… April Receiving's: $27,612.46
April Payments: $24,515.35
Every year the Missions Ministry Team collects
money from coffee hour, loose offering on the 2nd
Sunday of each month and all of the holiday offer-
ings. They decide which mission or organization
they would like to donate the money to. In 2016
$5,904 was collected and the Missions Ministry
Team decided to divide the money equally between
four wonderful organizations. They are:
Exploit No More
Northcott Neighborhood House
PTSD Battle Buddy Foundation (Service dogs for
vets with PTSD)
NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness)
Each of those organizations received a $1,476 dona-
tion because of your generosity. This is a wonderful
way to show God’s love in the world. Well done good
and faithful servants!
Blessings,
Ann Conroy
A Special Thank you to all of you for prayers, well
wishes and cards sent to me. Thank you to Pastor
Paul for his visits. May God Bless You .

LITTLE LAMBS UPDATE:
It's hard to believe our Little Lambs Preschool school year
is already over! It is so fun to see the growth in the chil-
dren from when they first came to school back in Septem-
ber until they "graduate" from the program and move on
to 4K next. And believe it or not, plans are already hap-
pening for next school year! If your child would like to be
part of the fun, please check out the Little Lambs bulletin
board near the Gathering for updated Registration Infor-
mation coming soon.
Watch for upcoming information on Sum-
mer Play Dates in June and July.
Keeping little minds and bodies busy during
the summer can be a challenge. Studies show that young
children who are read to, look at books, and engage in
reading books have more academic success in their fu-
ture. Try some of these fun things on this Summer Read-
ing Bucket List! Check out programs at your local librar-
ies. Search "Reading with Preschoolers" on the internet
or Pinterest to find lists and lists of great book selections
to read together. Happy Reading!
From the desk of Pastor Paul…..
June 2017 First United Methodist Church — Hartford, Wisconsin P. 3
Recently Becki Swenson asked me what I will miss
most from Hartford. The Perc Place? Coffee Hour?
Puebla's Kitchen? Golf? Listening to the train as it
makes it way through Hartford in the middle of the
night?
I responded to Becki by saying, "I am going to miss
the people." I will miss all of you! I cherish the time
and the moments we shared. I loved getting to know
you and learning about your life and passions. I thank
you again for allowing me to be your pastor.
First United Methodist Church is an incredible congre-
gation. You have become very good at saying, "Yes."
You said "Yes" to preparing and serving meals at
Summerfield United Methodist Church in Milwaukee.
You continue to say "Yes" to Family Promise. You
open our doors and welcome our guests every time
they come.
You said "Yes" to worshipping at the Perc Place.
You said "Yes" to a major and expensive remodeling
project.
You said "Yes" to starting a community garden.
You continue to say "Yes" to missions locally, around
the country and beyond. You financially support these
efforts.
Through your Endowment Fund, you say "Yes" to a
variety of worthy organizations throughout the com-
munity.
I have known pastors who have been in ministry for
more than forty years and never once had an oppor-
tunity to serve a church like this. You are a church
that says "Yes."
For me, accepting the appointment to Fort Atkinson
was a very difficult decision. You have been support-
ive. You welcomed my leadership. Most importantly,
you allowed me to be your pastor. Who could ask for
anything more?
Last fall when Sarah and I became grandparents, our
priorities changed. Moving closer to family became
important. Life is too short. I want to get to know my
granddaughters, Charlotte and Harper and watch
them grow-up.
I will miss you. I will miss being with you during your
most important life moments. I will miss being with
you in worship on Sundays.
Please welcome Pastor Stephanie Taylor as you wel-
comed me. She brings wonderful gifts and talents.
She will serve this church well!
I pray that you continue to be a congregation that
says, "Yes."
Pastor Paul
TEEN CHALLENGE TO JOIN US
IN WORSHIP JUNE 18TH, 2017!
Teen Challenge is an organization that helps
youth and adults get their lives back after
drug and alcohol addiction. They are based
out of Milwaukee and have joined us several
times before. Their stories and their music
are inspiring. Join us Sunday, June 18th at
9:30 am for their inspiring message during
worship.
It seems as we were just getting the ball rolling and now we are taking a
break. Still, we should feel accomplished. We have already met our pledge
to the district and the Executive Committee instructed our treasurer to go
ahead and submit it. That feels good. We have accomplished one of our
goals and that itself is a big feat.
We had a pleasant General Meeting on May 2nd as Victoria Triick shared her
and Jay’s experience in Haiti with a slide presentation. That is wonderful
work they are doing in Haiti and it was very educational. Donna & RoGene
shared a couple of Mother’s Day poems wearing these hats. This is United
Methodist Women in action!
MISSION U is happening soon! – Four Days: Monday through Thursday, July 24-27th – Overview Day Friday
July 28th at Hotel Mead and the Conference Center in Wisconsin Rapids.
Mission U is an Inspirational Experience! (I’ve never been, but that’s what they say!) Come together with
people of all ages to develop a greater understanding of the mission of the church in the current world con-
text. Experience: Worship & singing, special interest groups, audiovisual presentation and fellowship
events. Please let me know if you want to go!
The Reason by Lacey Sturm
This is one of the youth titles, but I often find these are some of my favorite books. Here is
the synopsis: The day Lacey Sturm planned to kill herself was the day her old life ended.
As an atheist who thought church was a place for hypocrites, she ended up in the back of a
sanctuary after a
screaming match with her grandmother. Despite hating everyone in the room, her experi-
ence is the reason she is alive today.
That sounds like an easy read—not at all boring. Just one more note: The Reading Program Reports are due
to Lisa DuPont by August 1st.
Have a wonderful summer!

Youth News
Youth group finished off the year on a picture perfect evening on May 7th. Paul grilled out and the youth and leaders
played kickball, four square in the air and cooked s'mores around a “campfire”. There was a great turn out and a lot
of excitement. Best of luck to our graduating seniors and we can’t wait to see the rest of you again next fall!
FUMC BASEBALL OUTING, THURSDAY JUNE 22ND
The Lakeshore Chinooks are a baseball team based in Mequon, Wiscon-
sin, and a member of the Northwoods League. They will be taking on the
Battle Creek Bombers at Kapco Park on Thursday, June 22nd. First pitch
is scheduled for 6:35. If you are interested in joining the fun, FUMC has
reserved a pre-game picnic package for this Chinooks game. Beginning at
5:35, there will be hot dogs, brats, 2 side items and soda to enjoy. If you
are interested in going, please sign up on the bulletin board or contact the
church office. Tickets for the food and game are only $15 per person!

From the desk of Hospitality ...
Our “Sharing Your Talents” night with Patricia Linehan on April 20th,
2017 was so much fun. I think she brought out the talent in all of us.
Thanks to Patricia Linehan for a wonderful Paint Night. We all had a
great time and created a beautiful Rose Garden.
Here are a few of our talented artists.
Blessings,
Hospitality Ministry Team
Thank you to all, for making our “Soup Tasting Lunch “a success!
We couldn’t do it without your help; we had about 10 different soups, many desserts and many hands
helping on April 30th. Approximately 70 people joined us for our soup tasting event. All of the soups
were wonderful; FUMC has some excellent cooks! We received the nicest email from Rich Rubietta who joined us for
lunch:
Dear Victoria,
I thought it was so nice that you made it a point to come find me and issue an invitation to food after Church!
Thank you for living the welcoming love of Christ toward me :) Interestingly, the 10-12 people left in Fellowship Hall
when I arrived were sitting at different tables, several all alone.
It was so fun to see everyone move toward one table, learn each other's names and not be in any hurry to leave.
And you were so gracious to serve us with coffee and desserts in the best of restaurant style!
FUMC is fortunate to have servants with the heart of Christ like you.
Thank you for sending me home with some Veggie soup, too :)
God bless you until we are together again.
Yours truly,
Pastor Rich
Our church is very blessed to have so many people willing to offer hospitality to anyone who visits. The Hospitality Min-
istry Team thanks you for making our job so easy!
