What’s fun got to do with it?

How shall we treat subject matter…so that it will rank as material of reflective inquiry, not as ready-made intellectual pablum to be accepted and swallowed just as if it were something bought at a shop.

~ Dewey (1933), How We Think, pg. 257

Professional answer…

People don’t pay attention to boring things.

Emotional arousal helps the brain learn.

Audiences check out after 10 minutes, but you can keep grabbing them back by telling narratives or creating events rich in emotion.

~ Medina (2008), Brain Rules, pg. 94

Final thoughts…I ain’t making this stuff up…

I loved all of your “fun” activities. At first I thought I would hate them, that they’d be a big waste of time. But I get it now, and see how they not only helped me get to know you and the others in the class, but actually helped me learn too!!! Thanks for a great class!
