Looking for ideas, inspiration and creativity for your fundraising? These ideas have worked for others, but we encourage you to be ingenious and have fun while fundraising! The team at Cure Kids is happy to support you as much as possible in your fundraising. We can help by A staff member coming to speak about Cure Kids, possibly bring a Cure Kids ambassador to attend who can share their story about living with a life-threatening illness and supply a DVD that can be played about Cure Kids/an ambassador. Our Mission To improve the health of children through research and its outcomes Cure Kids was established over 35 years ago to address the lack of research into life-threatening childhood illnesses in New Zealand. We have invested over $26million in vital medical research, helping save many young lives and improve the quality of life for thousands of children. We are committed to help find answers to the many life-threatening illnesses that devastate the lives of young children and their families. What the future holds for: Asthma Cure Kids is funding research in to a ‘cool’ ringtone device that reminds children when to use their inhalers, which also sends information to parents so that medication can be monitored. Brain Tumours Cure Kids is funding ground-breaking research at the Malaghan Institute in to a vaccine for brain tumours. Cystic Fibrosis Cure Kids researcher Professor Bob Elliott developed the first test for CF which has been adopted internationally. Heart Disease Cure Kids has committed $1.5 million into research into sudden death in the young and the development of services for families. Leukaemia Cure Kids continues to fund Leukaemia research at Otago University. Type-1 Diabetes Over 200 children are diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes each year. Professor Bob Elliott is pioneering treatments for diabetics and is determined to find a cure for this disease.

quiz night A great way to engage suppliers and friends for a fun evening, plus they are easy and inexpensive to arrange. movie preview Key Success is to give your colleagues 10 tickets each to sell – accept no returns!! •  Contact your theatre of choice. If you have a movie in mind, ask if it’s available, otherwise they should be able to recommend high sellers for you. •  The cost of tickets will be approximately $11. Add your premium to that e.g. $15-20 •  Clarify the numbers required by the theatre. Some require you to fill the theatre; others ask you to sell an agreed number of seats. •  As an extra fundraiser you might like to organise a raffle – pull together a few items from your suppliers and customers and sell tickets for $2 each or 3 for $5. •  You may like to promote some of your product by making up ‘goodie bags’.

•  Approach companies for ice cream, or wine and cheese supplies. Some theatres will allow you to distribute these on the night. •  Sell tickets to friends, family, customers and suppliers or better still, issue them with tickets to sell for you!

donation tins Strategically-placed donation tins are a simple way to collect money either during your fundraising activity or leave them at reception. Ask yourself where is the best place to place the tin to gain the most ‘jingle’? It helps to be able to tell a story! Cure Kids can provide you with the stories of our ambassadors to enable you to create your own flier or poster. Make it bold and colourful to attract attention! Use this along with your own wacky story of what you’re doing to promote your fundraising efforts. Be creative and have some fun designing a collection box specific to the theme of your team. For example if you have a medical theme, have a look around the hospital for ‘collection receptacles’. Approach your local cannery to donate some cans and printing your own graphic for the label? Use these at your fundraising events and enjoy a grand can opening ceremony at the end. Or pick up some ‘piggy bank’ fun boxes from a $2 Shop. Please contact Cure Kids for stickers or tins!

raffles Key questions Who is your target audience? How much would they pay? Who do you know who could donate prizes? Do you have one prize or many prizes? What is the time schedule? What is your target to raise? Be aware of legal guidelines – check out www.dia.govt.nz/diawebsite.nsf/wpg_URL/Services-Casino-and-Non-Casino-Gaming-Index?OpenDocument Steps to success Finalise timelines, when ticket sales will start and when they will end. Plan the date and how the giveaway will take place Keep records of which tickets will be given to which sellers. Having numbered tickets will help in record keeping Set a due date (before the giveaway day) for the sellers to turn in the money and tickets (both sold/unsold). Place sold tickets in a safe holding area Draw the raffle! Distribute all prizes and promote the winner! Boost your ticket sales Sell tickets at other events or at your regular group meetings Put on morning tea to sell raffle tickets to a captured audience. Encourage people to purchase more than one ticket at a time Motivate friends/family to sell tickets on your behalf by offering an incentive prize for the person who sells the most! Ticket design The ticket design will relate to the scale of raffle. A $100 note could be raffled for $1 tickets purchased at a stationer. If your raffle has larger prizes, $5 tickets could be printed in house or with a printer. The ticket should list the main prize, legal details, cost, draw date, ticket no. Cure Kids logo; tear off portion (butt) with name and contact details of donor, ticket no and logo. for further help try www.profitrequests.com or www.stepbystepfundraising.com

fundraising ideas Here’s a tip: Your suppliers and clients are a great source of prizes for raffles and events and are often willing to help. Air Miles: Collect them and raffle them off. Annual Leave (or time in lieu): Raffle or donate one day/week’s annual leave. Check this one out with your company first! Baby Photo Competition: Get a baby photo from all your colleagues. Charge people to match the correct photo to the office character. Prize for the most correct answers. Beach House: Do you know someone with a fabulous beach house? Auction or raffle it off for a weekend retreat. Beer or Wine (or Whiskey) Challenge: Know the difference between your pinot gris, cabernet sauvignon, pinot noir? Blind fold participants and ask them to taste test different wines and beers marking down their answers. Prizes for winners on the day. Make it a team building challenge within your office with cheese platters and bottles of wine or packs of beer people purchase. Cake Auction: Sell cakes at a morning tea. There was some fierce competition at Microsoft last year and they raised $1600. Carpark Hire: Hire your company carpark close to major events.. Cadbury Dunedin is near the Sunday Farmers Market and they sold spaces for a gold coin donation to Cure Kids. Casino/Poker Night: Chips can be sold for a fee as well and the event can be hosted a friend’s house to keep costs down. Clothes Swap Evening: Grab your girlfriends, pay to attend and bring along your clothes that you no longer wear and ‘swap’ over a glass of bubbles. Company Recycling: Ask staff to bring their old phones, ink cartridges, etc and recycle them for money.

Cookery Demo: Approach a friendly chef ask them to give up a little time to share some ideas with a ticket paying audience. Employee Auction: Auction off the CEO’s Office or PA for the day. Garage Sale: Get the bric-a-brac from people within your company. Golf Tournament: Invite your customers to have a great day out. Get prizes from competitors and suppliers. Pay to play in novelty holes. Hire a Hubby: Help someone requiring maintenance around the home. Ice-cream Sundae Friday: Sell ice cream sundaes for your work place (or building). Talk with local supermarkets to get deals on ice cream and toppings. Charge extra for delivery. Ironing: Offer ironing services at a cost. Karaoke Night: Charge an entry fee and host a competition. Prizes for winners, arrange judging panel, etc. Bonus funds if people bid money on getting people to sing (who normally wouldn’t). Lucky Dip: Sell stars (or balloon) at varying prices; say $5, $10 and $20 or more! Each buyer receives a lucky dip prize! Mufti or “jeans day” every week: So 10 weeks x $2 x100 people = $2000. If you work in an office building, why not invite other businesses to join you. Put a sign in the lift, send them to your receptionist or just go ask them! Photobooth: At a company event, etc, provide a background, props, models and have a photographer. Either charge to have your photo taken or charge for prints. Pledge: Just like the a-thon days but free to set up, online and much easier!! Get your work colleagues, friends and family to sponsor you in the race. A Cisco employee raised over $1930 from her web fundraising page.

Research: Get onto Buzz Fundraising to register, start filling out surveys and begin the fundraising for Cure Kids - www.buzzthepeople.co.nz Sausage sizzle: An oldie, but a goodie! Is your office in a high foot traffic area? Dress up to make it more fun and get more attention. Smoke off: Two staff from Colliers International challenged each other to give up smoking (with a fine if they failed!) Between them they raised over $6700!! Speed dating: Source 30 eligible bachelors to attend and woman purchase tickets to event. Work with a bar to get % takings of food/drinks. Maybe auction of a special romantic getaway weekend trip. Swear Box: Get rid of those expletives in the office environment. Teddy Bears Picnic: Activities for children such as pass the teddy, make a teddy mask, toss the teddy etc. Charge registration fee and sell baked goods. Trade-up Competition: All start with the same item – Arnotts have done it with Tim Tams – and keep trading up for better and better items. All the items sold on TradeMe at the end. ‘Troupe of Fun’: Charge a fee for being/arranging the entertainment at a kid’s party. Show up with a clown, face paint, magician, etc. Parents will pay a lot for you to entertain their kids! Water-bomb Fight: One year Ingram Micro held a water bomb fight, last thing on a Friday afternoon. Two hundred staff got through 1000 water bombs at $1 each– their MD was soaked and great fun was had by all. Winery or Pub Tour: Arrange a tour around wineries, and or a pub/bars or breweries. Hire a bus and a driver for the day (use contacts to get discount, or a family member to be your driver for free). Pre-arrange with wineries and or pubs/bars so they can be accommodating for your group, and also ask them to provide special offers. Provide a list of all locations included on the tour, and the offers available on the day. WoMen Beauty Pageant: Like a pageant with bikini/talent/evening gown categories but with a twist, it’s done with men. People pay for a ticket to come along, host in a bar venue, arrange a deal to have % of bar takings on the night.
