Brief You are required to setup a Live Sound System to play music through. This project will demonstrate your skills in several aspects of sound engineering including Stage Setup, FOH Equipment Setup and Mixing with Processors. Part One – Setup (Stage)
● Connect microphone(s) to stagebox ● Place microphone to suit performer(s) ● Connect Computer via DI to stagebox ● Connect speakers and monitors to stagebox
Part Two – Eliminate Feedback in microphone setup
● Place the microphone(s) to minimise the risk of feedback ● Connect a microphone to Channel 1 of the mixer to test the signal in the FOH speakers and the
monitor ● Adjust the signal level of the sound sources through the FOH speakers and stage monitor ● Use other equipment to minimise the risk of feedback
Part Three – Effective Communication with performers
● Set up a talkback microphone on Channel 1 ● Use appropriate gestures and language in communication with your performers
Part Four – Effective Use of EQ and Dynamic Processing
● Use EQ to improve the tone of the voice ● Set the FOH Limiter to protect the system against sudden peaks over 0 dBu ● Set the Compressor to smooth out dynamic variations of the performer ● Use the Graphic Equalizer to improve the room sound ● Use the Effects Device to improve the performer’s sound
Part Five – Health and Safety
● Power cycle all the equipment in the correct order ● Use the correct posture when lifting equipment to prevent health problems ● Use safe signal levels to protect the hearing of all present
Part Six – Documentation – Recall Sheets
● Equipment Layout & Positioning Recorded ● Desk Recall (including EQ settings) ● FOH Compressor and Vocal Compressor Recall ● FOH EQ ● Feedback Destroyer ● FOH Effects
