Santa Comes to Hampshire The 2011 Santa Comes to Hampshire event was a huge success. All the kids and their families enjoyed visiting Santa, playing 'reindeer' games, making holiday crafts, watching live entertainment, and visiting the animals in the nativity petting zoo. Back for its second year was "Lunch with Santa" allowing kids extra time with the big guy himself. There was also a little something for everyone while shopping at the annual craft show. Many people contributed to the event, so we would like to give thanks to them. Special thanks to our committee: ~Michelle Kollins, Fox Valley Region Jaycees ~Megan Adams, Citizens First National Bank ~Robbi Burklow, Burklow Properties ~Jenni Rado, First American Bank ~Katie Mathson, The Traveling Vineyard Thanks to our sponsors: ~Van Vlissingen and Co - developers of Brier Hill Crossing ~Northern Kane Educational Group - School's Out & Cambridge Studios ~Elgilor Specialty Metals ~Napa Auto Parts ~Provena & Dr. M. Without you we would not have an event. Last but not least a BIG thank you to the many volunteers we had to make this event so successful! See everyone in December 2012!

The chamber welcomes- Dunkin Donuts and Casey's General Store to the Hampshire Area. Dunkin Donuts is already open and work is progressing on Casey's. Membership Meeting January's Chamber of Commerce speaker offered tips on an activity people do three to six times a day: Eat. Cathy O'Shea, dietician with Sherman Hospital, spoke on "Healthy Eating in the Workplace" at the monthly chamber meeting Jan. 18 at the Hampshire Park District. While dining on build-your-own-salads from Rosati's, members guessed the sugar content of a dozen popular bottled beverages. Water and milk were correctly chosen as the choices lowest in sugar while Sunkist orange soda was the highest in sugar, higher than Gatorade, chocolate milk and Mountain Dew. "If you learn anything today, it's to try to follow a low-sodium diet," O'Shea said while discussing portion control, fat, calories and ingredients in fast food and packaged products. The good news: A healthy meal plan includes moderate portions of a variety of foods, even treats. O'Shea offered a list of healthy snacks with which to stock your desk so you can attack the afternoon hungries wisely:
