Grey Court School launches new crowd funding initiative
Grey Court is getti g i o ati e. We’re the o ly s hool in Richmond Borough ever to take this approach. We’re doi g it to reach a wider audience and get businesses to back our vision for a community space.
What is crowdfunding?
Crowd-funding is where individuals and businesses come together in a virtual online community to support projects
that reflect their interests or business objectives. This means they can tailor their charitable giving and see who it
goes to and what it will help to fund. Backers pledge money, materials (if they are relevant to the project) or skills to
help bring the project step by step towards its target.
All projects have a timeframe. Backers only pay what they have pledged if that target is reached by the project
deadline. That way, funding only goes to those projects that will actually go ahead.
How does it work?
Crowdfunding relies upon people power. The more we spread the word, the greater our chances of success. So,
please:
Visit the page a d like it. https://www.spacehive.com/community-sport-get-ham-fighting-fit
Spread the word on Twitter, Facebook, email and social media.
Share with your boss, your colleagues, your clients, your neighbours.
We’re o Spacehive. We are the Grey Court Community Sports upgrade
Who is this aimed at?
This is aimed at London businesses and the wider community. We are encouraging London business to invest in the
health and fitness of Londoners.
This is not just a Grey Court story. This is a Ham community story.
Ma y Grey Court pare ts ork for orga isatio s that ha e o u ity di isio s or orporate respo si ility ai s and objectives. Many of you work in industries relevant to this particular project.
Why are we doing it?
Grey Court is doing this to transform our indoor sports facilities to make sure they can be used by the whole
community.
Students will tell you about the leaking roofs in the changing rooms. They may talk about the changing room toilets
with a grimace or an eye-roll. What they o ’t e essarily des ri e is that there is o possi ility of a ula e-
stretcher access to the changing rooms. That makes them unsuitable for regular community use.
And frankly, if our facilities are not appropriate for a general public facility; they are not ideal for our students either.

Dear Parent/Carer,
As you are aware, the Year 11 Modern Languages students will be doing their 1st
Controlled Assessment Speaking the week beginning November 9th
. They are allowed 2
weeks of class and homework time to prepare so we will give them the task stimulus next
week. They will also have the half term break to work on this. After the holiday, they will
be given a time slot and a venue and will miss a maximum of one lesson to complete the
assessment.
By the end of next week, all students must have completed their written preparation and
seen their teacher to have their piece recorded (most will do this on their mobile phone).
If your child fails to do this, we will contact you before the half term holiday. Although we
cannot ark stude ts’ ork o e the task has ee set, MFL tea hers ill e a aila le after school every day if students have any problems.
The controlled assessment tasks are worth 15% each so make up a large portion of the
final grade. You can support your child at ho e y doi g the follo i g, e e if you do ’t speak the language yourself:
Ask them to explain the task to you to make sure they understand what they have
to do
Buy the a ili gual di tio ary if they do ’t ha e o e
Purchase a revision guide
Ensure they have collected all relevant vocabulary lists and glossaries from their
MFL teacher
Get them to practise speaking their assessment with you (e e if you do ’t understand it will help them feel more confident!)
Test them to help them remember it
Please do not hesitate to contact me or your hild’s La guages tea her if you have any
further questions about the assessment.
Yours faithfully,
Anna Hurley
