special thanks from your conference organizersWe acknowledge that LIMITLESS 2018 takes place on the unceded territories of the Coast Salish Peoples, including the Musqueam, Squamish, Stó:lō and Tsleil-Waututh Nations. We also want to acknowledge all non-status peoples and members of other tribes who live in Vancouver.

Conference organizers always rely heavily on the generosity of others. This conference would not have been possible without the assistance and enthusiasm of our student volunteers, Student Services, Library staff, and teachers at the college. In particular, we would like to thank the following for dedicating their time to moderate: Lesley Schimanski, Crystal Ehresman, Shahnaz Koji, Mike Metcalf, Victoria Hodson, Lisa Poole, Anastasia Shamshyna, and Ataman Avdan. We’d also like to thank the judging committee: Meghan Bowe, Hema Giesbrecht, Brenda Louie, Brylle Navea, Jessica Poon Nielsen, and Tara Todoruk. Many thanks to Kenneth Lau for filming today’s events.

LIMITLESS 2018 was also possible through generous financial support from Columbia College.

Thanks to the IT staff for making email communications possible within the college and for the AV tech support during the conference.

We thank all our student presenters for imagining brighter futures.

We extend deep gratitude to our workshop facilitators, Karen Atwal, Manjot Bains, Sophie Baker, Rose Black, Gabrielle Flores-Santiago, Simran Sarwara, and Abeer Yusuf, and keynote speakers, Hasan Alam and Dr. Maryam Sadeghi, who have set the tone for a wonderful conference.

Finally, we want to thank each other. Planning this conference was a lot of work, but has proven to be tremendously rewarding. We couldn’t have imagined a brighter future without each other.

Many thanks, Rose Black, Gabrielle Flores-Santiago, Stephanie Fung, Noorhan Gamal, Fatin Jallad, Mike Metcalf, Sarah Munawar, Matt Wadsworth, Anna Zima

Welcome Welcome to LIMITLESS 2018! This year, LIMITLESS invites all Columbia College students to our panels, workshops, and events, including our opening Keynote Address by Hasan Alam followed by an afternoon Keynote Address by Dr. Maryam Sadeghi. Our conference will close with an Awards Ceremony.

With student presenters across disciplines, the conference program this year is a diverse and thought-provoking engagement with our theme, “Imagining Brighter Futures.”

Why “Imagining Brighter Futures?”

The goal of the conference is to celebrate student excellence in academic scholarship, as well as to equip students with the practical tools and skills they need to succeed in today’s job market. What does a brighter future look like? How can we imagine brighter futures not just for ourselves, but also for others? What are the ethics or responsibilities in doing so?

We hope you can join many of the panels, workshops, and conversations today, and we look forward to seeing you around!
