WHAT IS THE CLIMATE SAVERS COMPUTING INITIATIVE?
Nationwide program for Universities and Colleges created by leading IT companies and the World Wildlife Fund in 2007.
In March 2009, CSCI collaborated with the US EPA – Energy Star Program to launch the CSCI at higher education institutions.
CLIMATE SAVERS COMPUTING INITIATIVE GOAL
Reduce Energy Use Save Money Practice sustainability Response to Climate Change Demonstrate Eco-Leadership in the
Community Gain National Recognition among peers Foster Student Involvement Build a campus culture of sustainability
PHYSICAL PLANT CSCI PILOT
151 PCs Networked induced power savings Energy saving settings
15 min – turn off monitor 30 min – turn off hard drives 1 hr – system standby 2 hrs – hibernate
Physical plant projected savings $1,800 – 2,200/yr
81 computers were already using some level of power saving settings
