While I know a move was emmi- nent as it has been talked about the last few years, I do not remember receiving a communication stating the move or purchase had begun or finished. I’m sure more information will be forthcoming, however, I was surprised. The new address for the office will be 301 N. Cotner Blvd., Lincoln, 68505. Some remodeling needs to be completed before it will be ready to be moved into. The next event I attended was the Grand Master’s Banquet. After a healthy salad complete with a quarter of a head of lettuce, the main course was pot roast, mashed potatoes, a dinner roll, and some cooked veggies. Dessert was a gigantic slice of cheese cake, of which, I hate to admit, I did not finish. I think I’m starting to show my age! The entertainment for the evening was the Flying W Wranglers, a dude ranch Western Band that has been around for 60+ years. We were informed they are the 2nd oldest western band in the USA. Instruments used included a fiddle, aucustic guitars, an electic bass guitar, man- dolin, and some smile inducing 4 part harmonies. The band leader also was a world class yoddler! I throughly enjoyed the music. Two Grand Master Humani- tarian Awards were presented this year. One to W.B. Jay H. Both were given a stand- ing ovation after Grand Master Rex Moats read the letters of rec- ommendation for these brothers. Other statistics of note from this Annual Communication: the NECHIP program has now provided 35,129 kits to Nebraska families since its inception; 278 students (the largest yet) marched and played in the Masonic All-Star Marching Band Camp in 2012; the Change for the Troops program purchased a new vehicle to transport Veterans from across the state to the VA In This Issue: 156th Annual Communication Page 1 Craftsmen Lodge Page 1 Electa Chapter Page 1 Liberty Lodge Page 2 Temple Chapter Page 2 Columbia Chapter Page 3 Eiche Chapter Page 3 East Lincoln Lodge Page 3 G. COUNT YOUR BLESSINGS

When there are dark and cloudy days, think about the sun.

When you have work you need to do, think of having fun.

When there’s a long, hard road to travel, think about the end.

When you feel lost and all alone, think about a friend.

When things are going badly, think of when they’re going the best.

When you feel blue, think of all the happy ways you’re blessed!

FEAR FACTOR

Fear Factor is back and this time it’s being hosted by the Dr. Frederick Eiche Chapter Advisors. Eiche had its Annual “Meet the Sweetheart Candidates” dinner with elections directly after at the business meeting. However, this dinner was no ordinary dinner because (after our wonderful chili) we had a game of Fear Factor.

The game was simple. The two sweetheart candidates picked Eiche boys to be on their team and then they had to draw a card. On the card was either an embarrassing thing they had to do or a gross thing. The sweetheart candidate then had to either do the task on the card for 10 points, or pass it on to a member of their team for half points.

Mar i s s a , one o f ou r candidates, was first. After her entire team admitted that they could not do a head stand it went to me earning my team 5 points. Then, it was Dylan’s turn. She sadly told us she had no idea how to “do the duggie”. It was up to our Junior Councilor Seth Ramirez who astounded us all.

Then it was on to the gross out portion of the night with two choices - big dish or little

dish. All of the Eiche boys were quite (impressed? disgusted? dismayed?) SUPPORTIVE when Marissa ate cow tongue. We were also equally surprised to see Dylan eat sautéed crickets.

In all, I can say this was a dinner like no other and it all would have been impossible without my mom, Mom Miller (THANK YOU for cooking the tongue and cricket) and I know that none of us can wait until next year. (Although Mom SWEARS she won’t cook anything gross ever again!!)

INSTALLATION

This will be a year to CELE-BRATE!!! The Martha Washington Chapter No. 153 had its installation of officers on Sat., Jan. 5. It was an early morning for some hav-ing the installation at 10:00 in the morning, but it was very nice to have both the Martha Washington installation and George Washing-ton installation of officers on the same day. A very full and fun day!

Sis. Betty Kirby P.G.M. and Bro. John Kirby P.P. were installed as the 2013 Worthy Matron and Worthy Patron. Their installing officers were Sis. Wanda Fischer P.G.M as Installing Officer, Bro. Bill Parrish P.G.P. as Installing Chaplain, Sis. Cathy Wagner Gr. Sec. Emeritus as Installing Marshal, Sis. Karan Birdsall P.M. as Install-ing Organist and Sis. Sue Bell-Heilman P.M. as Installing Soloist.

It meant so much to Betty and John to have so many friends help with such a special day for them. Guests were greeted by Sis. Clarice Brown P.M. and Bro. Albert Fisher P.P. A lovely reception afterwards was put together with the help of Sis. Paula Beezley P.M. and the colonial room looked lovely deco-rated with the talents of Sis. Bon-nie Sierks. And of course the day wouldn’t be complete without Bro. Mike Berger getting us all to put our best smiles on for the camera.

Sister Betty and Brother John’s year will be a year to “Celebrate”. And their motto is “DRIVE” (D-Donate, R-Recognize, I-Invent, V-Volunteer, E-Energize) following in the steps of the Grand Chapter. Their goal is fundraising for building renovations for the George Washington Lodge. Reno-vations have already begun with a new coat of paint and flooring purchased and just waiting to be put in. MASTERS DEGREE

Jan. 8 saw Lincoln Lodge 19 take care of two duties, first we conferred the Master Mason Degree on Bro. William Folsom

and afterwards we held our monthly business meeting. A couple of things led to our long evening, one being Bro. William’s desire to be raised in the same lodge as his father, secondly, he is a college student

atteding school out of state and was in town due to winter break. The next oppoturnity for raising would have been sometime in May. It was a long evening, but well worth it. Congratulations Bro. Folsom!

STATED MEETING

With the busy holiday season behind us, Hickman Lodge No. 256 met on the third of January for its first meeting of the new year. After opening, Bro. Jonathon Dykes, proved himself proficient as a Master Mason. Congratulations Bro. Jonathon. A petition for plural membership was read and an additional three petitions were balloted on. Worshipful Master James Eggerling’s work to increase membership during his tenure has been an incredible success and it looks as if the results will continue into 2013.

After taking care of the bills, communications and other regular monthly business, details on WM-Elect Doug Johnson’s installation were given and dates of lodge practice for the month were set up. Before the meeting was closed, W.M. Eggerling presented his officers with a token of his esteem for their hard work throughout the year. On behalf of the Brothers of Hickman Lodge No. 256, thank you W.M. Eggerling for all your hard work and direction this past year. After closing, the brothers retired to the basement for refreshments and fellowship.

INSTALLATION

On Jan. 6, the installation ceremony of W.M. Doug Johnson took place. Past Master Eggerling opened the lodge’s special com-munication and prior to retiring, presented the Hickman Lodge No. 256 Mason of the Year award to Bro. Jack Irons. Past Master Jerry Sievers then received a plaque for his years of dedication and service as Treasurer of the lodge the past

ten plus years. The 2012 officers then retired and the 2013 officers, after taking their oaths, were de-clared installed by the ceremonial Marshal. Officers for 2013 are:

I BID YOU ADIEU

On a final note, this is my last regular ar t icle for the time being. I have been fortunate to be able to write about our meetings and ac-tivities for the past two years, but it is time to let someone else’s voice be heard. I’ve apprec ia t ed the chance to write about our brotherhood during my first two years as a Mason, and I’m sure this will not be the last you hear from me in the years to come.
