What are Interactive Multimedia Products?

Interactive Multimedia Products (IMMP) use a wide range of media to present information,

IMMP’s provide us the consumer with the ability to access information and services through touch screens or keyboards and video displays,

It must interact with us allowing us to: dictate the pathway though the product, respond to events (with feedback) which we invoke, drag and drop items within the product, personalise the experience, give constant feedback.

Reasons to Choose IMMP’s fast -- learning speed accelerates. cheap -- the program never asks for a raise; the more you use it, the less it costs per

use. consistent -- no mood swings, yawns, or lapses. private -- ask what you want; no one will laugh, no one will scold. safe -- experience nuclear meltdowns without fallout; experience drunk driving

accidents or electrocution without blackouts or death. personal -- it never tires of praising and motivating through positive feedback, any

time, day or night. a tool to make remembering longer, easier -- many parts of the brain are stimulated. more information faster -- on things a school couldn't afford to teach: like space-

shuttle repair, brain surgery. fun -- like a game: yes, like Nintendo, which, with a joystick and a screen, has

already captured the brains and fingers of an entire generation.

Educational / Training Super-charge the learning process

In computer-based training, students are exposed to sound, animation, video, photos, and full interactivity - making this learning process more stimulating than any other method.

Another benefit of computer-based training is that it can be utilized anywhere at anytime. Giving training CD/DVD’s to employees so that they can learn new skills on their home computers or post training materials on a web site so that people all over the world can access the information.

Page 19: G050: Lecture 01 Interactive Multimedia Products Defined Mr C Johnston ICT Teacher

Advantages of CD/DVD Training?

Allows Students to concentrate on areas they need to, skipping over subjects in which they're already proficient

Students can track their progress on a per question basis

Trainers can update material in the computer-based training application much easier than they can update traditional or videotaped training media

Cost savings - computer-based training is often half the cost of instructor-lead courses

Increase the distribution of your training program by adding it to your web site!

Multimedia Products Used for Reference

References could be on various art pieces, bibliographies of different books a library has, dictionaries of different languages, the list goes on and on.

This type of media used to display this type of information could be a website or in the case of an artists portfolio an interactive CD-ROM/DVD-ROMS detailing all the artists work to date or in the case of the library an interactive kiosk where you can see if a book you like is available or you may wish to hand in a book to the kiosk to allow you to select another one.
