Exercise #1 - Practice Evaluation

Read through the Multimedia Notes From DiDA Course which are on my website.

In groups use the evaluation form on my website to evaluate the example product on my site made by dove.

Page 7: G050: Lecture 02 Evaluating Interactive Multimedia Products Mr C Johnston ICT Teacher

Writing Task A Use an evaluation sheet – this will be used to make notes

on and form an appendix of your report – include as much detail on this prompt sheet as possible,

Write 2 formal evaluations using the prompts in the assignment to help. Ensure for band 2 and 3 you include details of the features and why you want to use them in your own.

You also will need to write a conclusion which compares the two products

THEY MUST BE NON-WEB BASED otherwise marks will be 0

Page 8: G050: Lecture 02 Evaluating Interactive Multimedia Products Mr C Johnston ICT Teacher

Mark Scheme Band #1 (0-1 marks)

You describe two non web-based multimedia products and draw some conclusions about features to include in the design of your final product.

Band #2 (2-3 marks) You describe two non web-based multimedia products and

compare like with like to draw some conclusions about features to include in the design of your final product.

Band #3 (4-5 marks) You produce a report which critically evaluates two non web-

based commercial multimedia products, discusses the good and the bad features of each, and fully explains how each product has influenced the design of your final product.

Moderation Comments 2011

“In order to access the higher marks in task a, candidates must evaluate the commercial multimedia products, rather than describe them. There must also be a detailed explanation of how the product influenced the design of the product that the candidates produce. A number of candidates evaluated web-based multimedia products rather than non web-based multimedia products. Some candidates produced evaluation that were descriptive in nature rather than a critical analysis of the products; this restricted the marks awarded to a maximum of mark band 2.”

TOP TIPS2013

Evaluate the product 1st use evaluation sheets to help

Need +ve’s / -ve’s and improvements

for each factor on the sheet

How do specific

elements in the sample products

influence your designs

Pictures tell 1000% wordsUse illustrations to help

Compare the sample products – conclude what

makes a fantastic product

Proof read the report – no marks

for SSPAG but looks bad if fundamental

errors MARK BAND 3 REQUIRES CRITICAL

ANAYLSIS = ANY POINT YOU MAKE

MUST BE JUSTIFIED WITH FACT

Moderation Feedback 2012

“To access the higher marks in task a, candidates need to evaluate the commercial multimedia products, rather than describe them; some schools awarded mark band 3 for descriptions rather than evaluations. There must also be a detailed explanation of how the product influenced the design of the product that the candidates produce. Some candidates produced evaluations that were descriptive in nature rather than a critical analysis of the products; this restricted the marks awarded to a maximum of mark band 2.”
