Galilee UMW President’s Message
Our 2018 scripture for United Methodist Women is Isaiah 6:8.“Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying ‘Whom shall I send and who will go for us?’ And I said, ‘Here am I, send me!’” When I was asked to serve as President of the Galilee United Methodist Women, I felt neither ready, nor qualified, but I accepted the position and served humbly this past year and the experience was quite rewarding. Our local unit had not been active for a few years; but in spite of that,
we re-established ourselves as a viable local unit, had a remarkable year, accomplished much, and became a Mission Today Unit. I now realize that God had equipped me through the years and is now using me for His purpose. “God does not call the qualified, but qualifies the called,” Amen. I thank God, the Galilee United Methodist Women and our Pastor, Rev. Vermel Taylor, for our successes of 2017.
We have already started the year off with our Pledge Ceremony and our “Stand in the Red Zone” Human Trafficking Campaign.
We have set some goals we want to achieve this year and we will strive to continue to grow spiritually, as well as become more aware and active in the social issues promoted by United Methodist Women.
Jesus summons us go wherever He may lead, in all places and all circum-stances. Let’s do 2018 together turning faith, hope and love into action on behalf of women, children and youth around the world.
We give God all the Glory! Donna Graham, Galilee UMW President
Galilee UMW Participate in Human Trafficking
Awareness Sunday
Galilee UMW were “In the Red Zone” on Sunday, Feb-ruary 4, 2018 during Morning Worship. Donna Graham, UMW President, previously requested members to wear red to show their support of the fight against ‘human traf-ficking’. For more than one hundred years white has been the usual ‘first’ Sunday attire and adornment for Galilee’s Communion Sunday. Galilee made history whereby in-stead of the usual ‘white’ altar scarves and communion elements covered with ‘white’ table linen the scarves and table linen were ‘red’. Also, the pastor wore a white robe with ‘red’ adornment. Ms. Graham read a synopsis about human trafficking. A ‘red’ candle was lit and remained lit during the worship service to show solidarity in the fight against ‘human trafficking’. UMW members Barbara Ellison, Effie McGill, Gwen Rainer, Rosemary Rainer, and Margaret Thomas participated by reading quotes from actual victims of human trafficking. The congregation participated by reading a Litany about human trafficking. Awareness of Human Trafficking is a mission project of the Social Action Committee of the United Methodist Women. Video clips and pictures of the Awareness Program can be viewed on the church website: www.galilee-umc.org. (Photo credit Effie McGill)

Galilee UMW “SERVE” the Soup
The Galilee UMW helped the Galilee Soup Kitchen ‘serve’ soup. Juanita Campbell and Willa Hill UMW members made ‘homemade soup’ for the ‘every Thursday’ soup kitchen. Chicken and Rice Soup and Vegetable Beef soup were on the menu and served with the usual PBJ (peanut butter and jelly) sandwiches, crackers, and beverage. Each person who entered was greeted with a ‘smile’ and served a delicious, hot bowl of soup. The Soup Kitchen, a project of the Galilee Outreach Ministry, is open every Thursday from 11 am to 1pm, November through February. Gali-lee members volunteer to make the soup and sandwiches and serve. Barbara Briggs, UMW Social Action Co-coordinator, is the chairperson of Outreach Ministry and the Lead Person for the Soup Kitchen.
