PC GAMING

•  A video game played on a personal computer.

• PC games have evolved from the simple graphics and  gameplay.

•  Visual fidelity - higher screen resolution, higher framerate and anti-aliasing.

• Input fidelity - compatibility of a PC with a wide array

of peripherals.• Built around a central piece of software, known as a game

engine.

Simulation Game

•  A simulation game attempts to replicate various activities in

"real life" in the form of a game for various purposes:

training, analysis, or prediction.

• Various simulation games include : Flight simulation, city

building, business simulation, Social simulation(Second Life),

sports etc.

Hardware requirements

• Powerful graphics processing unit (GPU), which accelerates

the process of drawing complex scenes in real-time

Discrete graphics card with a supply of dedicated Video RAM • Sound cards -provide improved and enhanced 3D audio in

computer games.

Physics processing units (PPUs), are also available toaccelerate physics simulations in modern computer games.

nVIDIA

•  American global technology company based in Santa Clara,

California.

• Best known for its graphics processors (GPUs).

• Manufacturer of the most famous GPU series “GeForce”.

• nVIDIA has moved into the mobile computing market, where

its Tegra processors power phones and tablets.

ATI TECHNOLOGIES

•  A semiconductor technology corporation based in Markham,

Ontario, Canada - specialized in the development of graphics

 processing units and chipsets.

• In addition to developing high-end GPUs for PCs and Apple

Macs, ATI also designs embedded versions for

laptops, PDAs and mobile phones.

•  ATI Radeon series of GPUs are in direct competition with

nVIDIA GeForce GPUs.

Technologies in modern

gaming

• Tessellation

• PhysX

• Ray-Tracing

• Scalable Link Interface / CrossFireX

•  3D Vision

Tessellation

Process of creating a two-dimensional plane using therepetition of a geometric shape.

• Tessellation techniques are often used to manage datasets of

polygons and divide them into suitable structures for rendering.

PhysX

• PhysX technology helps games play better and feel better by making

interaction with environments and characters far more realistic.

• Games now accurately compute the physical behaviour of bodies real

time.• Features of PhysX include:

 – Dust and debris created by explosions.

 – Spectacular new weapons with incredible effects.

 – Dense smoke & fog that billow around objects in motion.

 – Characters with Life-Like motion.

Ray Tracing

• RAY TRACING is a technique for generating an image by tracing

the path of light through pixels in an image plane and simulating

the effects of its encounters with virtual objects.• Capable of simulating a wide variety of optical effects, such

as reflection and refraction, scattering, and dispersion

 phenomena.

• Produces a very high degree of visual realism.

Scalable Link Interface /

CrossFireX

• Scalable Link Interface (SLI) is a brand name for a multi-GPU

solution developed by nVIDIA for linking two or more video

cards together to produce a single output.• Meant to increase the processing power available for graphics.

• CrossFireX is the AMD(ATI Tech) version of multi-GPU

system.

3D Vision

•  3D Vision is a stereoscopic gaming kit from nVIDIA which

consists of LC shutter glasses and driver software which

enables stereoscopic vision • The kit is specially designed for 120 Hz LCD monitors.

Further Advancements

• More realistic graphics with lower processing time.

• Production of natural environment in the game.

• Faster and efficient units.

• Technologies like Real-Time Graphics Processing.
