Former Ayton School, Goldcrest Road Washington Plot number 5/6

Site designated by Sirius Geotechnical Ltd. as BS8485:2015 characteristic situation CS2. Refer to Sirius Geotechnical report No. C7369A for remediation strategy. Remediation System: Rhinoplast Evolution Gas Barrier. Rhinoplast LT jointstrip 50mm wide, Proprietary Girth Tape, and top hats.

Final Checks conducted:

Joints sealed and taped: Yes Girth tape installed: Yes Service pipe penetrations, detailed and sealed Yes Corners detailed and sealed: Yes Footprint of structure intact: Yes Membrane and ancillaries undamaged: Yes

General observations: There was an excellent standard of workmanship, the site was clean and well prepared, all services penetrating the membrane were sealed with top hats which were clipped. Door sets and external corner and internal corner details achieved by folding & taping. On this dwelling the membrane was laid on the beam and block surface which had been thoroughly scraped and cleaned. This plot is a pair of semi-detached dwellings with the membrane being continuous throughout.

Recommendations: Final inspection to be carried out by Vistry site manager prior to pour to repair any damage. All service pipes routed through top hats must be sealed by way of a pourable butyl liquid sealant or similar at the next stage of fit. Failure to do so will compromise the installation. Please note that this is not part of the barrier system supplied by Principal Building Products Ltd and may not be the responsibility of the Groundworker. A NEW GENERATION OF GAS BARRIER

Outstanding Gas Resistance

Rhinoplast Evolution is high specification co-extruded multi-layer barrier specifically developed for use on construction sites contaminated by Volatile Organic Compounds, Hydrocarbons and other ground gasses such as Methane, Radon and CO2.

The product is 14 layer and contains 2 layers of gas barrier polymer (EVOH) to offer exceptional performance and prevent the ingress of dangerous gasses into buildings. It is manufactured using the latest co-extrusion technology and cannot delaminate. The product will also act as a damp-proof membrane.

The membrane is manufactured using High Performance engineering Polymers to give exceptional strength and does not require reinforcement. It can be installed by the use of sealing tapes or can easily be welded.

Conforms to the specification requirements of NHBC Amber 1 & Amber 2 applications

Suitable for all characteristic Gas Situation (CS) ground gas regimes

Technical Data

Methane Transmission Data

* This test was performed in an external laboratory

Meets all the following criteria:

• Sufficiently impervious to the gases with a methane gas transmission rate <40.0 ml/day/m2/atm (average) for sheet and joints (tested in accordance with BS ISO 15105-1 manometric method);

• Sufficiently durable to remain serviceable for the anticipated life of the building and duration of gas emissions;

• Sufficiently strong to withstand in-service stresses (e.g settlement if placed below floor slab);

• Sufficiently strong to withstand the installation process and following trades until covered (e.g penetration from steel fibres in fibres reinforced concrete, penetration of reinforcement ties, tearing due to working above it, dropping tools, etc);

• Capable, after installation, of providing a complete barrier to the entry of the relevant gas;
