Score Energy was established over 25 years ago as an independent supplier of light industrial and aeroderivative gas turbine services. Since then they have built an award winning and customer focused Gas Turbine business based on technical expertise and exceptional customer relationships and support.

With over 130 employees strategically placed throughout their worldwide service network they specialise in overhaul, repair, upgrade, modification, testing, supply and leasing of gas turbines, fuel systems, accessories and auxiliaries 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

About Score Energy

We live in challenging times and over the last 12 months our business has not only met this head-on but succeeded in an environment that we understand has been challenging for not only us, but also our customers and suppliers. Amidst an environment of low oil prices, spending cuts and market uncertainty, our team rose to the challenge to produce one of its best growth years to date for close of business 2015 and is also now heading in the same vein for 2016. For this we are grateful for and put down to you, the customer, and your continued support and confidence in our ability to provide a strong, stable and competitive service delivering the right quality within the necessary turn times.

Growing this position, both the Peterhead and new Houston facilities have demonstrated a clear commitment to meeting your needs on legacy turbine overhaul and fuel nozzle and accessories product expansion, through its employee development and investment in the expansion of our technical capability. This is further supported by our expanding team within Asia with two new turbine experienced sales managers in residence. This comes from a recognition that not all markets are down and for many it is a time of expansion, not just consolidation and from our stable base we can invest to support.

From an organisational basis I have to introduce myself as the new Managing Director, taking over from Hugh Irvine who has driven this business to the strong position it now holds, and who remains within the Score group providing for a seamless transition of management. Working with gas turbines for almost 25 years across OEM’s and Independents I aim to further drive the capabilities of my team to support your evolving needs, be that in investment for new product capability or for an increased service provision.

We continue to roll out our investment programme and broaden our offerings as an approved partner with many key OEM’s including GE, AAT, Parker, Woodward, Arkwin, TDI, Honeywell and Titeflex, in service of which we continue to hold our ISO accreditation. Developing from this we have been progressing towards AS9100 accreditation over the past 10 months, the aerospace approach to quality management; and I’m delighted to let you know that we have achieved our goal, which is testament to the Score focus on quality and I trust this is evident in every aspect of our global services to your company.

Thank you for your time in reading this newsletter and please feel free to discuss any of its contents with either myself or any member of the team.

Thank you for your valued custom and continued support and may we offer our commitment to supporting your business into 2016.

Score Energy hit a record milestone, in 2015, for its work and contribution to the legacy Siemens industrial Rolls Royce Avon gas turbine.

We are the only company in the world to manufacture the highest quality internal and external legacy gas turbine components, which are an alternative to the OEM components, branded as KN Parts, and as such are celebrating reaching 200,000 operating hours in service and counting. The landmark includes all parts that have been installed and are successfully running in more than 40 engines globally today!

The parts, which are manufactured by our team to the latest material specifications and tolerances, are installed in some of the World’s largest fleets. Not only this but our parts are also being used in some of the world’s most challenging regions, where the power from each of these gas turbines helps local communities gain access to clean water and electricity.

Greg Smedley, Engineering Manager for Score, said: “Achieving this initial milestone for these customer requested solutions demonstrates the reliability of the Score Energy manufactured parts for Rolls Royce Avon gas turbines. It

is a great accomplishment for the company as we strive to continuously improve our products and services for our clients. From here we are looking forward to the next 200,000.00 hours”

With more than 3,200 individual parts installed, across 17 different customers in Twelve (12) countries globally, the total estimated running time equates to 3.6 million hours. If all the gas turbine engines were running at once they would produce enough power to provide electricity to 624,000 homes.Greg added: “This is another fantastic achievement for Score which reflects the high quality engineering, development, and ongoing support we put behind our components. We have been receiving some great feedback on our work with Rolls Royce Avon gas turbines from both the users of the gas turbines and the service centres, both of whom buy and install them.”

He has also worked for firms such as Malaysian Airlines / Pelangi Airways, Sapura – Wood Group Synergy and Kawasaki Gas Turbines.

Calum Melhuish, Sales Director at Score Energy, said: “We work with many great and loyal customers across Asia Pacific, which means we have a solid foundation from which to expand upon in the region. Taking on Ammai and Firdaus will help us further establish ourselves in this important market, whilst allowing our customers to have local support in their own time zone.

“We have had a successful year and these new appointments come at a great time for Score Energy as we continue to build our business throughout the world. We look forward to introducing Ammai and Firdaus to our customers, and wish them luck in their roles with Score.”

Fun Facts: Natural gas arrived in the home during the first century A.D. in Persia. It seeped from the ground and was ignit-ed by lightning, producing an ‘eternal flame’ that burned day and night. Seeking to take advantage of this continuous heating

source - and since pipelines wouldn’t come around until the 1800’s - the king of Persia built his royal kitchen next to it.

We are happy to announce that our USA facility is going from strength to strength, with client wins, team expansion and now a huge investment in additional technology.

Score has doubled its team in the USA and has invested more than $1,000,000.00 ($1 Million) in new technology.

Calum Melhuish, Sales Director said: “Our USA facility is really growing. We are becoming recognised for the same market leading customer support we are known for in other parts of the World. There is an excitement within the team as we become established within this important market, and this is thanks to their ongoing work, and dedication to high quality services and products.”

At Score we support most aeroderivative and industrial gas turbines. We offer services, stock supply and engineered solutions through its unique OEM licences from valued partners such as AAT, Parker, Woodward, TDI, Arkwin and Honeywell Alvaro.

Calum added: “Throughout the last year, to enable us to support demand, we have continuously invested in the necessary technology, including: ultrasonic chemical cleaning and flushing systems, a pyrolytic (high temperature, oxygenated) furnace, liquid and gas fuel flow testing rigs, nitrogen and hydrostatic pressure testing capability, and automated TIG welding machines and lathes.

“This means we can continue to improve turnaround times delivering more to our existing clients, while accommodating our new ones. We also have additional machines being manufactured so they can be shipped to Houston which will further increase capacity, and allow us to provide an OEM approved service to more of our customers’ equipment on site.”

Last year we also achieved a silver award in the Royal Society of Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) Occupational Health and Safety Awards 2015 in its first year of applying for the recognition.

The accolade is obtained by demonstrating a high level of performance, underpinned by good management systems, which deliver consistent improvement, and is internationally recognised.

Gordon Stewart, QHSE leader for Score Energy said: “It is the first year the company has run for the award and we are extremely proud to have achieved the highest possible level for first year entries. As a manufacturer and service company, QHSE is always at the forefront of our minds and we strive to make continuous improvements in the workplace.”

As the UK’s family safety charity, RoSPA’s mission is to save lives and reduce injuries covers all ages and stages of life. In support of this mission, the RoSPA Awards, which date back 59 years, recognise commitment to continuous improvement in accident and ill health prevention at work. Through the scheme, which is open to businesses and organisations of all types and sizes from across the UK and overseas, judges consider entrants’ overarching occupational health and safety management systems including practices such as leadership and workforce involvement.

David Rawlins, RoSPA’s awards manager, said: “The RoSPA Awards encourage improvement in occupational health and safety management. Organisations that gain recognition for their health and safety management systems, such as Score Energy Limited, contribute to raising standards overall and we congratulate them.”

Score Energy wins Occupational Health and Safety Award

Score Energy continually strives to exceed the highest quality and safety standards within the gas turbine and associated markets. In recognition of this commitment, recently the company is delighted to have been awarded with the prestigious AS9100C accreditation - the aerospace industry’s acclaimed standard for quality management.

The AS9100C standard is specific to the aviation, space and defence industries. Awarded by Lloyds Register Quality Assurance (LRQA), the criteria for meeting approval is known to be even more stringent than the ISO9001 accreditation and AS9100C is generally granted to large multinational organisations. The fact that Score Energy has gained this approval is testimony to the exceptional standard of service and quality the company endeavours to deliver to every customer.

In order to assess Score Energy, LRQA conducted three surveillance audits over a ten month period. Audits on the company’s QMS (Quality Management Systems), analysis of process efficiency and gap analysis surveys were carried out in order to monitor compliance with the ISO9001 and AS9100C standards.

Following successful completion of the assessments, Score Energy was granted the AS9100C accreditation.

The accreditation is an assurance to new and existing customers alike that Score Energy places the utmost importance on the quality of their products and services. The approval will also allow Score Energy to become an approved supplier to a wider range of companies, ensuring eligibility to tender for both contract and non-contract work.

For over 30 years the Score Group of companies have consistently offered the best possible level of design, overhaul, repair and testing services; remaining global leaders in their respective fields of operations. Score Energy’s latest achievement is further assurance that the Score name is one that customers can trust.

LRQA Recognises Score Energy’s Commitment to Quality

Meet Our TeamName? Eric Stott

Current Role? Customer Support Manager

Previous roles held in Score? Customer Support Co-ordinator, Customer Support Team Leader, European Sales Manager, Contracts Manager

How long have you been with the company? Joined Nov 2011

What services do you provide to customers? My role is to lead and support the internal teams that in-turn provide support to our global client base. This includes ensuring that every enquiry, tender, order and scope of work- whether it be for one of our contract or non-contract customers- is being quoted and managed to the best of our ability and as per the customer requirements. Our dedicated fuel systems support and turbine system support teams provide vital communications to our clientele, globally, keeping them up to date on all aspects of their live orders & any enquiries relating to hardware they’ve identified for possible overhaul /supply/exchange/test. We also act as the middle man between the client & our internal customer (Score Energy personnel, such as workshop, stores, inspection, quality dept, shipping, etc) so it’s vital that our communications to all parties are clear & concise, to ensure they understand what the customer has ordered. We are fortunate enough to be approved by many valued and globally recognised OEM’s such as Parker, AAT, Woodward, Titeflex, TDI, Arkwin and Honeywell, which means each day is a busy one supporting many customers across a variety of product. Providing quotations for live orders & proposals for enquiries to all clients & our global sales team means that there’s very little time to draw breath throughout the course of the day.

What aspects of the job do you enjoy most? The role is an exciting, and ever changing one. You just don’t know what you will be dealing with on a daily basis. The wide variety of tasks that you get involved in on a daily basis means no two days are the same & there’s a certain amount of “the unexpected” ensuring there’s never a dull moment in the office. It’s also very satisfying to provide assistance to clients who find themselves with unexpected operational issues. Score Energy often “come to the rescue” to ensure the operator can return their engines to operation in the shortest possible time frame and I guess as we are a 24/7 operation we are well placed to support.

Which is the favourite country you have visited and why? During my time with the business I’ve been fortunate to travel to the USA, Asia & many European destinations. I’ve got to say that Italy is my favourite due to the stunning scenery, excellent food & friendly people.

What advice would you give to one of our apprentices if they wanted to work in your department? Hard work never killed anyone!!I came through the ranks myself – served my time as an apprentice with a local company in Peterhead before moving to a major Oil & Gas Services provider in Aberdeen working on the tools where I was recognised as an individual with potential. Since leaving “hands on” work, I’ve taken on various roles that include workshop supervisory roles, Engineering roles, then finding my niche in Customer Support. You never know what opportunities lie ahead and it’s always best to be one step ahead of your competitors, so pay attention, keep focused on your goals & your time will come. The Score Group is a dynamic and growing business, constantly evolving/changing with the times. Not many things stay stationery for long, and there are great opportunities to be had in support of our customers.

Name? Stephen Summers

Current Role? Customer Support Co-ordinator within our Fuel Systems Support team.

How long have you been with the company? – Since September 2012

Fun Facts: 93% of Score Energy customer’s (end users) use natural gas as the primary fuel on their gas turbines.

What services do you provide to customers? Day to day support and communication on all aspects of customers orders, from the initial enquiry through to the execution of the works into the shipping stage & beyond, including providing the quotation, clarifying any queries clients might have regarding their orders or providing information on our companies facilities & capabilities.

What aspects of the job do you enjoy most? In short, working with the customers! They come from so many different countries, cultures and sectors of the Energy industry that each day is different and interesting. I am also privileged to be working with an excellent team of colleagues with a wide range of knowledge & experience, which helps immensely to be able to provide a first class service to our customers ensuring that they continue to make Score Energy their chosen service provider.

Which is the favourite country you have visited and why? I find it hard to decide on a favourite country but I have visited Italy more than any other so it would just squeeze into first place. I find Italy to be a very interesting place to visit from the unique setting of Venice in the north east through to the beautiful Bay of Naples in the south west. Each region of the country seems to have a varied but interesting character of its own. I have never visited Australia but I hope to. We receive a lot of work from there and in speaking and working with our clients in the region it has made me even more interested. You never know a visit there may change my mind about my favourite country!

What advice would you give to one of our apprentices if they wanted to work in your department? My advice would be to work hard, be diligent and trustworthy, and get as much experience and qualifications as possible. With our worldwide presence the opportunities within Score Energy & the wider Score Group are unlimited for talented trainees.

Fun Facts: Back in the 1880’s there was a ‘war of currents’ between Thomas Edison (who helped invent DC) and Nikola Tesla (who helped invent AC). Both wanted their system to be used with AC eventually winning out due to the fact that it is safer and can be used over longer distances. Nowadays the impressive Tesla Roadster Electric car uses an AC motor

descended directly from Tesla’s original 1882 design.
