PRESIDENT’S COLUMN.

My first full year as your President is

coming to an end fast. It has been very

challenging at times and also very reward-

ing.

There has been a lot of change, and

improvements made to the property this

year, and there is still a lot of work to do.

We have a great Board of Directors in

place, a lot of great chairmen and chair-

women also.

Many of these folks are like me, work-

ing full time jobs and giving a lot of their

“not so spare time” to our club.

I really appreciate their efforts, and

commitment. Thank these folks when you

see them and ask what you can do to help.

Our youth hunt was awesome this year!

We had 14 youngsters participate, and

most of them got their two bird limit.

Thanks to our youth group and conser-

vation committee for working together to

make it happen.

Renewal notices went out in September

and the deadline remains the 31st of De-

cember to retain your membership.

There are very few excuses that will let

you pay your dues after the due date. With

three months to get that taken care of, “oh

I forgot” will not work.

There have been quite a few that have

had to go through the new member pro-

cess again in recent years. Don’t be one of

them!

DECEMBER 2017 CALENDAR OF EVENTS

WOMEN’S AUXILIARY.

The next Women’s Auxiliary Meeting

will be held Wednesday, December 6th at

6:30 PM in the clubhouse.

We will be wrapping present for the

Kid’s Christmas Party.

There will also be a follow up meeting

for the party on Wednesday, December

13th at Acapulco in the Xenia Towne

Square.

The meeting will be at 6:30 PM.

Please call Gail at (937) 609-2215 by

December 11th to join us as we are mak-

ing reservations.

There will not be a Euchre Party in

December. We will resume Euchre on

Saturday, January 20th.

RANGES ON WEDNESDAYS AND SUNDAYS.

It has already happened this year,

someone comes out to shoot on Wednes-

day or Sunday and the sign says

“CLOSED”, so they get upset.

There is a small RED sign that says

“RANGES CLOSED EXCEPT WEDNES-

DAYS AND SUNDAYS” on the fence next

to the gate and on the main range sign.

This sign keeps us from having to

have someone at the club very early

mornings and late evenings on Wednes-

days and Sundays to change the signs.

There will be at least one range clo-

sure on the Wednesday afternoon before

Thanksgiving to place birds in the

fields.

This will not take long, and the con-

servation guys will check the ranges

before they go out and let the folks on

the ranges know when they can shoot

again after the birds are out.

We are looking into an electronic

sign that we can program to open and

close the ranges automatically. Not

sure how soon this will happen, but we

are working on it.

NEW FOR 2018 RANGE SAFETY WORKSHOPS

For all GCF&G Members, we will be

holding two Range Safety Workshops

early next year, (see the dates below).

These workshops are open to all

current GCF&G Members and New

Members for 2018.

We will focus on Firearms safety

and the ground rules specific to our

ranges.

If you are sponsoring a new mem-

ber this year, we would ask that you

strongly encourage your new member

friends to attend one of these work-

shops.

We continue to receive reports and

see evidence of rules violations on the

ranges and it’s up to all of us to do our

part to keep everyone safe. If you’re an experienced shooter or a current member, please consider attending one of these workshops as our ground rules have been updated and we all bene-fit from basic firearms safety. New members will be looking to you as their role model. Please check the club’s web-page for a link to register for one of these new classes.
