The use of GunDRILL Reamer enables total saving of
640 k$ in terms of Reaming/Back-reaming & Casing
Running Operations for only 11 wells.
The GunDRILL Reamer contributed on:
• Drilling Enhancement by reducing the MSE fluctuations, smoothening thedrilling process in almost all formations. It also contributes to a better WOBtransmission.
• Hole conditioning by smoothening the Pull Out process and shortening thereaming/back-reaming duration.
• Casing running by increasing the RIH speed due to optimal borehole quality.

This log summarizes the drilling parameters, the Specific Energy
and the DLS evolution in the pilot hole (red) and the side-track
well (green) in the same geomechanical environment, formation
tops depth matching has been applied taking BHM-7A as
reference. (full log in Appendix 5)
The main differences between the two wells are the use of
Steelseal mud instead of Baralube mud and the use of TERCEL
GunDRILL Reamer instead of the stabiliser.
The depth-based logs of the two wells highlights that:
• The two wells have the same profile (inclination and
azimuth).
• DLS values are greater in BHM-7 from 2300 m up to TD.
• Specific energy in BHM-7A presents smoother variation (less

The previous analysis leads to the following conclusion regarding the benefits of running
the GunDrill Reamer in Well BHM-7A – section 12 ¼’’:
While Drilling:
The presence of the TERCEL GunDRILL Reamer drastically reduced the fluctuations and
the peaks of specific energy, smoothening the drilling process in challenging intervals.
While POOH - backreaming:
• The use of GDR allowed NAM to backream and POOH despite hole cleaning / stability
issues.
• The presence of the TERCEL GunDRILL Reamer has helped to smoothen the wellbore
surface by reaming the existent tortuosities in problematic drilling interval 2 (from
1780m to 2020m).
Casing Running:
Casing was successfully run and cemented.

3.1. Drilling Enhancement: GDR added value _ EL BADR-6
The main difference between WAHA SE-1 and EL
BADR-6 wells is the use of TERCEL GunDRILL Reamer
instead of the stabiliser.
The depth-based logs of the two wells (Appendix.12)
highlights that specific energy variation in EL BADR-6
presents globally lower mean values (higher drilling
efficiency) than those recorded on WAHA SE-1for
both 16” and 12¼” sections.
The S values variation in both wells proves a better
WOB transmission when using the GDR probably
due to a better borehole quality.
Important E-S fluctuations are experienced in
Abreghs and Adjadj highly interbedded formations,
resulting in severe drilling conditions in both wells
(E-S values spikes). Consequently, ROP was
controlled to avoid high torque fluctuations.

The GunDRILL Reamer reduces NPT related to POOH and encountering heavy back reaming in mobile and
transient formations. Moreover, it helps decrease the total reaming/backreaming time resulting in important savings.
Using the time-based data we compute the total reaming/backreaming time for WAHA SE-1 (No GDR) and EL BADR-6
(With GDR in 16” and 12 ¼” sections) wells.
We have total reaming time gain of 401 mn and total backreaming time gain of 220 mn. The use of GunDRILL Reamer enables a total saving of 87,521$ for a mean daily cost of
202,948 $ in terms of reaming/backreaming operations.

3.3. Casing Running Speed : GDR added value _ EL BADR-6
By enhancing the borehole quality, the GunDRILL Reamer reduces NPT related to POOH and increases casing
running speed. In addition, having a better borehole quality guarantees an optimal cementing job.
Using the time-based data we compute the 13 3/8” and 9 5/8” casings running speed for WAHA SE-1 (No GDR) and EL
BADR-6 (With GDR in 16” and 12 ¼” sections) wells.
We have a global increase in casing running speed of 160 % in the 16” section and of 10 % in the 12 ¼” section . The use of GunDRILL Reamer enables a total saving of 173,943 $
for a mean daily cost of 202,948 $ in terms of casing running operations.
