Astronomical clock, Prague

DEAR W&L ALUMNI, PARENTS, AND FRIENDS,The Danube River has shaped not only the beautiful European landscape but also the fascinating history and brilliant culture of the regions it flows through.

Stretching for hundreds of miles, the Danube links nations, peoples, and many of the customs and traditions that we associate with this lovely region. Many famous composers, writers, and artists have celebrated its beauty, while leaders from Ancient Rome onward have drawn their imperial boundaries along its banks. The region resounds with music, literature, and art as well as its storied history. Please join us as we glide on the blue Danube through a realm of hilltop castles, grand cities, rolling rural landscapes, and charming villages. Accompanying us will be university faculty who will help us to understand and appreciate all that we see and hear.

Our journey begins with two days in Prague before embarking on an all-inclusive, luxury river cruise aboard the state-of-the-art Scenic Amber. We’ll travel to Nuremberg, a city renowned for its history, museums, and architecture that dates back to the year 1040. We’ll visit Regensburg, a town with two millennia of history that blends modern influence while revering its cherished traditions. We’ll stroll through the narrow streets of its old town, alert to its delicate balance of old and new. Passau offers a thriving promenade, culinary delights, and the hauntingly beautiful sounds of the St. Stephens Cathedral, home to Europe’s largest pipe organ. In Vienna we’ll step back in time, recalling the days of Austrian royalty at the halls of the exquisite Palais Liechtenstein with its baroque staircase and breathtaking golden ballroom. Here we’ll enjoy a private concert featuring the works of Strauss and Mozart. Finally, let’s celebrate our lovely Danube sojourn with a memorable finale, a tour of beautiful Budapest.

We invite you to enjoy all these ports and more as we travel with a carefully planned itinerary, informed shore excursions, exquisite accommodations with all onboard beverages and dining included. This is a trip that will make the Danube one of your brightest memories.

Sincerely,

Robert Fure, DirectorThe W&L Traveller
