Close to 300 cyclists will gearup and charge throughdowntown Nevada City on
Father’s Day Sunday as thousandsof fans cheer them on at the 52ndannual Nevada City Classic.
The Classic will continue itslong tradition tomorrow withparades, live music and a vast varietyof vendors and food, not to mentionplenty of fierce, competitive racing.
“There’s going to be a little bitof everything,” organizer DuaneStrawser said.
Two-time Classic champ,Katerina Nash will be back todefend her back-to-back titles from2010 and 2011 in the Women’s Proevent.
The field may be wide open inthe Men’s Pro competition as it wasstill unknown as of Friday if two-time defending champ Ian Boswellwill be back to chase down his thirdstraight Nevada City Classic, a featnot matched since Greg LeMondwon three in a row from 1979-81.
A handful of local riders willalso be throwing their hats in thering hoping to find the podium intheir hometown race.
The Kids Bike Parade getsthings started at 12:45 p.m., withyoungsters riding an assortment ofdifferent bikes down Broad Street.
The Junior race kicks off thecompetition at 1 p.m., followed bythe Masters Men’s race, theWomen’s Pro race, the Men’s Elite3/4 race and finally the Men’s Prorace at 5 p.m.

Course starts at Broad Streetand Pine St. in downtown andcontinues counterclockwise toUnion, Commercial, York, NorthPine, Cottage, Main, EastBroad, back to Broad Street.
Course is a 1.1 mile loop with120-foot stair-step climb fromYork to East Broad and anadditional rolling hill alongEast Broad.
Speeds up to 50 mph can bereached down West BroadStreet through town.
