across various regions but they face gender-specific constraints that limit their contributions to
agricultural production, economic growth and well-being of their families. Gender equality can
lead to empowerment of women and promoting economic growth which is the focal point of
sustainable rural development.
Presently, the economic growth needs a shift from capturing mere economic parameters to
agricultural and gender sensitive issues that has gained importance for ensuring sustainable
development in the society. Bridging the gender gap will result in increased access of resources to
women and strengthen their voice within the household leading to better food security, nutrition,
education, health and wellness of all.
Under aegis of Prime Minister's programme viz. Digital India, Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, Start -up
India, Make in India, Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana etc., our country envisions a future in
which even women are independent and self reliant. With these national policies and
developmental programmes, emphasis has been shifted from developmental issues alone to a
holistic approach for empowerment of women.
In light of the above, the conference would explore key challenges and opportunities in unlocking
potentials of gender issues and socio-economic perspectives for sustainable rural development in
India. The objectives and themes of the conference are as follows:
OBJECTIVES:
Ÿ To focus on emerging gender issues for sustainable rural development
Ÿ To take stock of gender friendly technologies for socio-economic empowerment of rural
women
Ÿ Impact assessment of policies and programmes addressing gender issues in agriculture and
rural development
Ÿ To formulate strategies for engendering sustainable rural development in agriculture
