Winter Wheat - 2019 VarietiesWith the winter wheat harvest complete, it’s time to start thinking about what variety you are planting this fall. At NWC, we pride ourselves in carrying top yielding varieties from C&M Seeds and Bramhill Seeds. See below for an outline of varieties.

Soft Red Winter WheatC&M Drew - Top ending yielding soft red, stands extremely well. Small seed makes for lower cost per acre.C&M 614 - This workhorse winter wheat provides consistent yield along with lots of straw.Marker - This winter wheat does well on a variety of soil types and will provide top end grain and straw yield on high performing soils.

Hard Red Winter WheatGallus - High end yield, combined with superior standability makes this hard red winter wheat one of the best in its class. Lexington - A NEW hard red variety from C&M. If you liked Princeton, you’ll love Lexington!Priesley - This is top yielding hard red winter wheat, it can be planted on a variety of soil types and still yields exceptionally well. Needs to be managed to achieve protein. Requires a contract from C&M.

Silage Inoculant- Help Preserve your Silage Crop! The fall season is just around the corner and corn harvest will be getting underway before we know it. North Wellington Co-op is a dealer for Nutri-lock and it can be used when making haylage, corn silage or even high moisture corn. It is available in either a dry granular or a concentrate form to be mixed with water. If you are using an inoculant in your ensiling process, discuss the benefits of adding Nutri-lock with your local NWC field man for further information. NWC keeps a good supply on hand at each of our branches for your convenience.

Fall Fertilizer For all the forage growers, don’t forget to feed those alfalfa stands this fall. Providing your forage crop with an application of Phosphorus and Potassium in the fall will help protect your stand through the winter and get the alfalfa off to a quality start in the spring.

One issue growers have in the spring is trying to get everything done in a timely manner. Broadcasting your potash in the fall will help to reduce the work load come spring. Applying your potash in the fall will give more time for nutrients to become available for your spring crops and help to increase your soil fertility.

Soil Sampling This time of year presents an excellent opportunity to get some soil sampling done on your fields. It is recommended to soil sample your fields every three years, often matching well to our three crop rotation of corn, soybeans, and wheat. Keeping track of soil samples allows us to monitor our fertilizer plan and work on increasing soil fertility to improve yields.

Fall BurndownFall burndowns are an important tool we can use in the control of perennial and bi-annual weeds. Fall burndown is very effective for the termination of hay/alfalfa stands, cover crops as well as termination of soybean crops. Soybean burndowns facilitate a smooth harvest, and at the same time set up your fields for winter wheat. Burndowns ahead of winter wheat, whether it be pre-harvest of soybeans or post, make weed control in the spring much easier to time in with your fungicide application.

CardlockSafe, Secure & Convenient With your North Wellington Co-op FS Fuel Card, it’s easy to fuel up. Simply drive to one of the convenient locations, insert your North Wellington Co-op FS Fuel Card and follow the instructions at the pump any time of the day or night.
