Defenses Against Infection – 1.

Surface

– barriers: skin, conjunctiva, mucous membranes

– mechanical removal: shedding, tears, mucus,

ciliary action, coughing, salivation, swallowing,

urination, defecation

– normal bacterial flora

– chemical inhibitors: gastric acid, lactic acid, fatty

acids,bile salts..
