Rod BaxterPrincipal at Value Generation PartnersSeguirDejar de seguirSiguiendoCargandoGenerating Value by Using an Impact/Effort Analysis12 de abr de 2015An impact/effort analysis is a powerful and simple tool for prioritizing and choosing from many options. It is the process of using a matrix-style tool to evaluate several options against the impact gained and effort required for each option or idea.Impact/effort analysis may be useful when: It is necessary to determine which programs, projects, problems, solutions, etc., to focus on when resources are limited Quantitative, objective data is not available as part of the evaluation, selection, and decision-making process A choice must be made from several options, and it is necessary to screen the options relative to impact gained and effort requiredThe benefits of impact/effort analysis include: Provide a collaborative team environment Provide a consistent and efficient approach for prioritizing and choosing from many options Reduce emotion and bias from the decision-making and prioritization process Results of many options are displayed on one matrix-style toolImpact/Effort Analysis Process:1. Assemble a cross-functional team of subject matter experts (SMEs) who will be prepared for the session as a result of completing pre-work on the topic2. Brainstorm a list of potential options for evaluation based on the impact/effort topic or use a prepared list from a previous brainstorming session3. Construct an impact/effort matrix on a flipchart or use a template projected onto the screen4. Evaluate each option for impact gained and effort required, and place the option number or identification in the appropriate impact/effort cell on the matrix5. Select and focus on the options with the highest impact at the lowest possible effortAn example of using an impact/effort matrix is by an improvement team working together to determine which of many options are best suited to reduce emergency room wait times. The team evaluates each option for impact (how much it would reduce the emergency room wait time) and effort (how difficult and costly it will be to implement). The options with the highest impact and lowest effort are chosen to implement.

Impact/effort analysis is a powerful approach for prioritizing and choosing from multiple options. While the matrix tool is described using impact and effort as evaluation categories, the same matrix and approach may be used to evaluate options against other categories, such as cost/benefit, impact/risk, value/effort, etc. The matrix indicates that the options are evaluated from a low, medium, and high perspective, yet the criteria may be replaced with elements based on specific and organizational needs. For example: Low, medium, and high may be replaced with appropriate dollar values, if the matrix would be used to do a cost/benefit analysis, rather than an impact/effort. As you can see, the matrix categories and criteria may be tailored to your organizational needs.Value Generation Partners wishes you much success in your pursuit of prioritizing many options relative to impact and effort, thereby generating greater value in your organization! Using an Impact/Effort Analysis is useful in combination with Generating Value by Selecting and Executing the Right Projects. Escrito por

Make LinkedIn Work for YouSeguirDejar de seguirSiguiendoCargandoOnly We Can Choose: Will We be Leaders, Followers or Spectators.21 de abr de 2015Popular culture is perpetually telling us that we want-- no weneed-- to be powerful. We "need"a fancy corner office, an impressive title, we must win the race race! What is our life worth if we don't strive to build some imposing legacy? The message is everywhere, from TV shows, movies, to news stories on the internet. We are told that gaining these types of achievements will give our lives purpose. When we break it down, however, power does not really matter at all. Prominent titles mean little. What does matter is what weDOwhen we can, and do the most of the opportunities that get get a hold of."Management is doing things right; leadership is doing the right things." Peter F. DruckerTheRole ofTheLeaderA strong leader is one who inspires others to action. This extends far beyond running their company and taking the brand to the top. It is a way of life that necessitates looking for ways to do good. Not do well - dogood. Leaders even strive for greatness and excellence. In a company, that means communicating clear visions and goals, rewarding employees, and helping everyone feel a part of the company mission. To make it clear, rewarding employees is NOT always about money; it means giving the team the dignity to feel valued and appreciated.Outside the company, it involves valuing community and the people that surround us. True leaders are not the type of people who see something happen to others and look the other way. True leaders are the ones who immediately look for ways to make things better.Yes, this may sound redundant but leaders lead, they inspire. They roll up their sleeves and jump into action! They dont just throw ideas, suggestions and commands, they find solutions and take action. ACTION, ACTION, ACTION is the keyword here.Rebuilding Vanuatu-- a Story of True LeadershipOn 13 March 2015 Super Cyclone Pam hit the small island nation of Vanuatu. In a matter of hours the island was virtually destroyed. The green lush hills were shaved bald like my head! While the death count was lower than what officials had feared, the devastation was incredible.

[There are] roofs gone, no drinking water, no power, no food, roads blocked or completely demolished, bridges down and fallen trees everywhere... explains Helen Collier-Kogtevs.Vanuatu is a small, remote island country. The toll that this cyclone has taken on the nation has not gained much recognition the way it would have if it had happened in a major city, a more populated country or the backyard of the rich and famous. While aid has reached the country, the progress has been slow and the people continue to profoundly suffer.Collier-Kogtevs of Australia, along with Stephanie Neilson and Robin Culph, have decided to make a difference. These three women demonstrate to us all what true leadership means.Using their own resources, while also fundraising, they have committed themselves to rebuilding infrastructure, such as schools for the island. They have established a fundraising goal of AUD$88,000 and have lined up the projects that they want to accomplish. Since they are volunteering their time, all proceeds they gather are going directly to help the local people.

These incredible women are not necessarily natural born leaders, as some may assume; the circumstances revealed in them their true nature. Compassionate and motivated, they saw a massive problem. They decided to not back down, not throw pity parties but to make a plan to help. They are executing it. Although Neilson now lives on the island, none of the three women have native connections to the location. They are helping because they saw the need and understood that if they took the lead and do something about it, others may feel inspired to pitch in, to participate and to simply help out. When speaking toSmart Property Investment, Collier-Kogtevs said that when she realized that her position as an real estate investor gave her the tools she needed to help this county, she felt awesome.Followers follow, leaders take the lead, but can we afford to just sit and watch?Their powerful example of leadership has impacted people around the world. It has inspired me to write this heartfelt article and hopefully motivate some to take action to help as well.Do not feel discouraged if you do not have the time or resources to undertake an enormous project as these admirable women. Perhaps you will feel encouraged to donate some money personally or organize a fundraiser at your place of work and donate the proceeds to this or another great cause. Maybe you decide to start giving back to your community through donations of time."Leadership is not about titles, positions, or flowcharts. It is about one life influencing another."John C. MaxwellDespite the barrage of messages telling us we need to be on top, let us not forget the real value of leadership and power. These are tools that give us the capacity to help and guide others, regardless of whether they are an island villager in another country or a struggling new hire in our own company.Bottom line, we choose WHATwe do and WHOwe are:1. LEADER2. FOLLOWER3. SPECTATORI choose to never be just a passive spectator.
