VA PICNIC ~ AUGUST 3RD

The Moose Legion invites all Veterans to be our guests for a picnic lunch in the Pavilion on Sun-

day, August 3rd from 11:30am to 1pm.

~Hots, burgers, salads, desserts, and games~

As always, a busload of residents from the Canan-daigua VA Hospital will be in attendance. For me,

this event is the most gratifying of all the Moose activities because these guys are SO grateful that

anyone is doing anything for them.

Please volunteer a few hours to help us with this special event. See the sign up sheet outside of

the kitchen on the bulletin board.

Just returned from the 126th Annual International Moose Convention in Las Vegas. What a great time seeing old friends from across the nation. Attending from our Lodge was Brother Governor, Kevin Hyland and Treasurer, Dave Farrell along with me. All the new by-law changes that were proposed on the convention floor were passed by the delega-tion. The one major change was, that men will be able to sponsor women and women will be able to sponsor men into the Moose fraternity starting July 1st. This will help build our membership each year. Sponsors will still receive credit for ALL applications that are processed with their name as the sponsor. There were a total of 5215 men and women in attendance at the convention. Now we start planning the next International Convention, which will be held July 3-7, 2015 in Nashville. At that convention, they will be holding a karaoke competition from finalist from each regional association. More information is forthcoming. We received notification that we have earned our Lodge Premier Award. It will be presented at the NYSMA Fall Convention in Albany, August 21st-24th.

Summer brings on many outdoor events at the Moose with the Jamboree and the Moose Legion Sportsman Raffle. Tickets are available. Won’t you pick up a few for your-self, and try to sell a few to your friends, etc. The committees need your help with the selling to make each of these events a success. The tickets for the NYSMA 11th District – 60” color television drawing are also on sale at the Moose Family Center. The drawing will be held at the picnic, on Sunday, July 20 at Canandaigua Moose starting at noon. ALL MOOSE members and families (don’t forget the kids) are invited. The best is, it’s FREE. There will be plenty of food, fun and fellowship all afternoon. Oh, by-the-way, there will be Moose milk (beer) and pop to boot. Plan to attend this great annual event, you will meet Moose members from Akron, Canandaigua, Churchville, LeRoy, Palmyra and War-saw and our members as well. Thanks go out to all our volunteers who help out with daily, weekly and monthly service to our facility. Keeping it clean and running for you, our members. Won’t you become part of our volunteer team? Ask any officer where help is needed. Thanks for volunteering.

Have a great summer.

If you would like to be a part of the team who will be going to Albany to take on this task, please let me know, or one of the Board of Officers. We will be setting up rides to and from Albany.

Any questions you may have about this trip, please, feel free to give me a call at 585-486-4895.

GOVERNOR’S REPORT ~ Kevin Hyland

Hello my Brothers and Co-Workers. June was a busy month and we have many Thank You’s to acknowledge. I’d like say Thanks to Brother Ed Stone for driving from the Horseheads Lodge and volunteering his time all Sunday with providing our new LOOM Officer training. Thanks to Dave Dennie from the Palmyra Lodge for volunteering his time all Sunday with providing our new Moose Legion Officer training. Thanks to Bob Laux and his ballpark beer serving crew for volunteering their time Saturday night working the Beer Stand at the Red Wings game. And some special Thank you’s go out to the WOTM for preparing and serving the delicious Fathers’ Day breakfast; to Butch Bloom and Nancy Clark for taking on the task of cleaning the Walk-In Cooler and Walk-In Freezer shelves along with inspecting for past prime food items. Butch and Nancy take great pride in making sure the foods you order and consume here are stored properly and are of the finest quality standards possible.

Summer time is when we lose many of our volunteer kitchen help. FYI - For the last 4 weeks there have been a team of two (2) people that have prepped; prepared; cook and clean up all of the meals that have been served during our Friday night dinners. We can’t keep doing this to these very committed people. The two (2) person crew for that Friday night starts around 2PM. They begin with firing up the ovens; getting the soups started and get the potatoes in the oven and start to wind down the evening with washing all of the dinner dishes through to the final cleaning of the pots and pan - ending their Friday night around 10 pm. That is an 8 hour night with a lot of work. Can someone please volunteer to help these wonderful/dedicated people? I cannot in good conscience keep asking for this type of herculean effort. I am leaning towards shutting the Kitchen down for the summer if it weren’t for the volume of dinners we are serving. People really like coming to eat here. The food is delicious and very reasonably priced. What has to change is our volunteer spirit. Just help out 1 Friday night (we will train you) and begin to feel good about yourself. We truly need your help. Please consider this your official golden invitation to come in and help us maintain the excellent food service standards we are famous for.

Speaking of Volunteering for Friday night – we are gearing up for the August 17th - 14th Annual Dick Hale Country Jamboree and the September 6th Sportsmans’ Raffle. These events are critical fund raising events for our Family Center and your volunteering help is truly helpful.

Thanks for your volunteering efforts in advance.

Kevin

HAPPY JULY EVERYONE

PLEASE BE ADVISED: Do to the July 4th holiday being the day after our normal first meeting of the month, we will be moving that meeting to the 10th instead. Thank you.

Well another Fathers’ Day has come and gone. We had a great turn out this year. A very special thanks to all the hard work by everyone. Everything went well and all the fathers had a great breakfast of ome-lets’, pancakes, bacon, and sausage. We enjoy doing this every year.

At the time of this writing the International Convention in Las Vegas is still going on. All the information that will be brought forward will be in the August Newsletter. I look forward to sharing with everyone what Moose International has in store for us.

I am looking for Committee Chairs to bring forth proposals and ideas for events that you are interested in doing throughout the coming year. I will be holding another Committee Chair meeting in the near future. I will get in touch with all of you before that happens.

Our July 12th Craft/Bake sale is coming upon us very fast. Anyone interested in helping in any way is more than welcome. We could use craft items, baked good, help with cooking, setting up and taking down. This craft/bake sale will benefit Lifetime Assistance as well as the Women of the Moose.

Don’t forget the Convention in Albany. We would like to see as many people from Genesee Valley Henrietta make it to this convention. Our Chapter is hosting this convention so let’s give it our all and make our Chapter the best there is. As stated before, we could use any help you can give.

I believe that is it for now.

Thank you, Your Senior Regent
