OENJ SVA DAIL Y TIMES, FR IDA Y, MA T 17, 1912 . PERISHED MISERABLY IN DRIFTING BOAT Walter Jauncey of This City Tells of Seeing Titanic Lifeboat Picked Up With Two Dead Bodies In It—No Pood or Water Left. . IR O N IN G OUTDOORS Walter Jau acey of Geneva arrived in (New York ye sterday on the & S. Oceanic having left Southampton on the 8th and in crossing tak ing aa ex- \ treme southe-ruly course almost as far south as the Azores. W hen within approxim ately 400 miles from whore the ill-fated Titanic wont down they sigh ted a <'ol lapjs «bk> boat aw ash in mid-ocean. C apt. Smith changed the course of t*i« eteeuaer somewhat and was soon alongside the boat, wthon they made a gruesome discovery. In the bow of the boat was a fireman and a sailor, both wit h lifebelts on. They were akin by side end dead; in th e *tern of the boat was a passenger who was identified a? Mr. Beattio th e Chicago millionaire. There is no d oubt iby the articles of wearing apparel and jewelry that was found in the boat that there were ladies who had perished from starva tion and exposure, m*d apparently aa fast as they died , some ef their cloth ing were removed and their jewelry, which, was placed in the bottom of t he | boat, after which the bodies must hav e been put overboard. The bodies were in su-dh an advanced state of doeoni- position tha t all were buried at s ea with th e Union-Jack, at half mast. How long these poor people sustained life is a question but every vestig e of food and water waa gone, nothi ng whatever being in the boat. This now accounts for the last boat. Mr. Jauncey crossed over en th e Red Star liner Lapland , and there were on board the crew, stewards, etc., of the ill-fated Titan ic with many of whom IMJ. Jauncey is well acquainted and they gave hi m particulars of th e wreck. Outside of this gruesome discovery the balance of the voyage was u nevent ful excepting some fog. Wou ldn't it be nice if you could do your ironing out on the cool airy porch when the weath er gets real hot? That's just what the modern housekeeper do es, for she uses the Electric Iron the iron that gets heat fro m the lighti ng socket and does not require any hot stove. Don't you want to try electric ironing this summer? College Rotes, The favorable chang e iu weather conditions relie ved the officials in oL;irj'e of the track meet of a load of responsibility. Surrogate Dumbo* Take s Evidence In Local Litigation—Other M atter! Up fW Action. Before Surrogate Buntoa this morn ing was begun the taking of testimony in the contest over the '•state of Eliza bath Fow ler, late of the efty of Ge neva. T ie wfil of the deceased is be ing contested on the grounds of in competency and undue influence. The proponents of the will were represented at the hearing today by Fitahngh Me- Grvw while Louise S. Bissell and Dex ter Sturges, two of the legates under the will, appeared by W. 8. O'Briea. Harriet F. Colby of New Yerk, who is contesting the will, was repreaenfrad by Francis LeBarroa of New Yerk and County Judg e R. F. Thompson. The testimony, this morning was I glveB by E. Bayard Webster, sue of the witnesses to the will. Mr. Webster was strongly cross-examined by Mr. LeBarron. The dec-sssed, who left an estate of upwards of $40,606, was a former well-known resident of Geneva Far several years previous fco fcardeath sfea was an inm ate of a priv ate sani tarium in Canandaigua. The estate was left te a sister in trust aad then to two nephews for their lire time, with the privilege of disposing of it st their deaths. la add ition to the Fowler eases Aur- rogate Dnaten held a judicial settle meat in the estate of Josepaiae Hap- good, late of Oenwa . th e estate was a small one. L W. Keyes is the executor. The will of Eleanor Aneley, late of the Town of Geneva, was admitted to probate. Caroline K. MeR slvie is named as the executor. There was also a judicial settlement ef the accou nt. of Mrs. Phillip Rniscll, deceased, as executor of the esta te of Marion Woodsn In the matter of the >«tata ef Cath erine O Til alley permission was granted the erccutor to sell the real presort? of the deceased to pay dsmts and there wax a n amoun ting la the es tate of the late George A. Ferdea, Allcs W. Kennedy was named as eneeuter of the estate ef Baajamift lea aa dy . Tha Oid Ma t especial significance owing to th-a fact that it was reported to the police that th e wife of an Italian resident had left town wit h another man. It was reported to the pol ice that th-a couple had a child and when asked wh at be came of the child the man replred that it was the custom to do away with them. This fact, taken iu connection with the report made that a man had been digging a holv in the playground a t night, cau sed ^Coroner Flint to go to the scene this morrin g. The Coronet found the maa who had seen the digg er of the hole at wo rk aad he pointed out the spot wh^re he had seen aim at The Coroner started onggJfng and" continued until water began to run into the hole. The water finally forced him to quit the job, but it was stated that the work would be resumed again and a thorough search made. While the authorities do not take a great deal of stoc k in the report there are circumstances w hich make it a p pear as though a child might be buried in the playgrou nd. Henry S. Mastea, a blacksmith employ ed at the plant of the Geneva Wagon Company, re ported that while on his way home a couple of weeks ago h e saw a man dig ging a horn near the walk w hich crosses the playground plot. At.the time the hole was so &eep that the man was in the ground up to his shoulders. No par ticular attention was paid to the fact at the time, bat later the police re ceived a report t hat the wife of a local Italian had left Geneva with another man and when auctioned by th'a po lice aa to wha t became of a child which disappeared at the same time the husband In the ease declared that it was possib le that tha child had been j doae away with. The two facts, taken togeth er, cansed the officials to get busy bnt the efforts thin morning ^fnilrd to' get any: result. m •' . i O I Boiler Sink open Wed. aad flat . are. WEDDINGS. Wou ldn't it be nice if you could do

your ironing out on the cool airy porch

when the weath er gets real hot? That's

just what the modern housekeeper do es,

for she uses the

Electric Ironthe iron that gets heat from the lighting

socket and does not require any hot stove.

Don't you want to try electric ironing

this summer?
