GeoTime System RequirementsHow are you using GeoTime?The system requirements and recommendations for GeoTime depend greatly on the type of work being done with the software. Some tasks may require higher-performance hardware in order to ensure the best GeoTime experience.

GeoTime produces an interactive 3D picture of your data. A computer that meets only the minimum requirements to run GeoTime cannot support the demands caused by larger workloads. It is possible to reach a practical limit where GeoTime stops responding to commands in a reasonable time-frame.

Consider how your organization intends to use GeoTime. A workstation configured to run only office applications and Internet browsers may have difficulty using GeoTime with larger data sets.

Which Configuration is Right for You?

The table below provides guidelines for three workstation configurations. Each configuration describes our recommendations for consistent performance at that level.

IMPORTANT: These guidelines are intended to help you determine the required performance level of your workstations. This involves the amount of data that will be typically used with GeoTime by your users. We describe this data in terms of "rows" in a spreadsheet that can be simultaneously loaded into GeoTime. These are just estimates!

Typically, each "row" in a spreadsheet becomes a single Event in GeoTime. If you are performing cell site analysis, each cellular tower that is imported also counts as a "row." If you have 4000 towers, and 4000 call Events, there are 8000 objects that GeoTime must manage.

Due to the number of variables involved, Uncharted Software Inc. DOES NOT guarantee that performance will match or exceed the following estimates.

l Minimum: describes a workstation that can handle small amounts of data in GeoTime.

l Better: describes a mid-range workstation that is capable of handling larger amounts of data, but not the largest data sets.

l Best: a workstation capable of pushing GeoTime to its functional limits, with potentially hundreds of thousands of loaded events.

GRAPHICS NOTES: There are many manufacturers of graphics cards that use these chipsets. While GeoTime sup-ports most cards that use these chipsets, it is impossible to test every possible hardware and driver combination.

Due to inherent graphics processing limitations with Remote Desktop Connection (RDC) in Win-dows, Uncharted Software Inc. does NOT support use of GeoTime via RDC, and some features may work improperly or be disabled if GeoTime is used over RDC.

Hard Disk1 GB of uncompressed hard disk space.An additional 30 GB is required for the GeoTime Offline Map Pack™ (if applicable).

Web Browser(for Documentation)

A recent version of Microsoft Internet Explorer or Edge, Mozilla Firefox, or Google Chrome, installed as the default browser.

Map Provider

GeoTime does not include map data, but relies on an additional map provider to supply that data. The map provider must be one of the following sources:

l Esri ArcGIS (Using the ArcMap add-in)

l Esri TOC (when using 32-bit GeoTime only, Esri ArcGIS Desktop 10.0, 10.1, 10.2, or 10.3 only.)

l Web Map Service (requires Internet connectivity)

l GeoTime Offline Map Pack™ (available as a separate purchase)

For tasks such as large data analysis, animation, and video capture, Uncharted recommends ArcGIS or the GeoTime Offline Map Pack for best performance.

To use GeoTime Add-Ins or Extensions:

l For the Excel plug-in: Microsoft Excel 2007, 2010, 2013, or 2016

l For the ArcMap add-in: Esri ArcGIS Desktop 9.3, 10.x. The ArcMap plugin is compatible with any ArcGIS 10 point release.

NOTE: Be sure to install the correct file for your version of ArcGIS (refer to the GeoTime Installation Guide PDF).

l For the Toolbox add-in : Esri ArcGIS Desktop 10.0 through 10.4. The Toolbox is NOT compatible if the release is not listed here.

License TypesUncharted Software Inc. offers two types of GeoTime licenses:

l A Nodelocked license associates a single computer with a single copy of GeoTime. Uncharted provides you with an Activation ID to be used in the online activation process.

NOTE: Other forms of nodelocked licensing may be used, including offline (Short Code) activations or file-based licensing. This document contains information about these methods, but they are not typical.

l A Concurrent license offers a "pool" of licenses to a broader user base. GeoTime users "check out" permission to use GeoTime from a customer-hosted license server, up to the number of seats purchased.

For example, a concurrent license for 10 seats would allow 10 users to start GeoTime, but the 11th user would not be able to operate the software. When a user closes GeoTime, the license is returned to the pool.

Concurrent licenses require installation of files on a license server AND on client computers.

To identify the licensing type that your organization purchased, refer to your purchase invoice.

Installation Steps

Nodelocked Licenses

1. Obtain a license for each computer.

2. Install GeoTime on each computer.

3. Install the GeoTime Add-Ins for ArcGIS and Excel on each computer (optional).

4. Install the GeoTime Offline Map Pack on each computer (optional, purchased separately).

Concurrent Licenses

1. Obtain a license for the license server.

2. Configure the license server.

3. Install GeoTime on each computer.

4. Install the GeoTime Add-Ins for ArcGIS and Excel on each computer (optional).

5. Install the GeoTime Offline Map Pack on each computer (optional, purchased separately).

Obtaining Licenses

Nodelocked LicensesGeoTime Support provides a license Activation ID that is used to activate GeoTime during the first session after installation. For multi-seat purchases, a single Activation ID allows you to activate GeoTime on that number of different computers.

Concurrent LicensesConcurrent licensing requires a customer-hosted license server. This server is contacted by the client computers to check out and return licenses. The server contains a license that tells it how many seats to make available. This license is bound to the server for which it is issued.

To request a concurrent server license file from GeoTime support, you must provide:

l the host name of the license server

l the MAC address of the network device on the license server.

Obtaining the Host Name and MAC Address

To obtain the host name and MAC address, log on to the license server, then use the following procedure. You may need to scroll in the command window to find both pieces of information.

To obtain the host name:

1. Click Start → Run

2. Type cmd. Press Enter.

3. At the command prompt, type ipconfig /all. Press Enter.

4. The host name is located near the beginning of the information provided. You may need to scroll upwards in the command window to locate it. The MAC address is also listed.

Requesting Your License

Once you have obtained the host name and MAC address, send an email to [email protected] that contains:

l the host name of the server

l the MAC address of the server

l the purchase order number

OR

the purchase invoice number.

GeoTime Support will then send your license files to you as email attachments. The files are named:

l GeoTimeserver.lic (for the server machine)

l license.lic (for use on all client machines - allows GeoTime to ask the server for a license)

NOTE: If you cannot receive file attachments by email, please state this in the request email. GeoTime Support will make other arrangements for you to download the license files.

Installing GeoTimeWARNING: To avoid conflicts, uninstall all prior versions of GeoTime before installing the latest version.

The GeoTime application must be installed on each computer where it will be used, regardless of license type. For license server installation instructions, refer to Setting Up a License Server on page 16.

NOTE: Running the GeoTime application on the same computer that is hosting the license server is not supported.

To install GeoTime, you must be logged into the computer with an account that has administrator privileges.

To install GeoTime:

1. Insert the GeoTime DVD into the DVD drive, and browse the contents.

OR

Open the folder containing the downloaded GeoTime Setup file.

2. Double-click on the GeoTime Setup file.

3. Follow the instructions in the installation wizard.

4. When the process completes, click Next, then Finish.

For license activation procedures, refer to the following section. For information about installing the Excel and/or ArcGIS add-ins, refer to Installing Add-Ins for ArcGIS and Microsoft Excel on page 21.

Activating the GeoTime LicenseThe activation method that you use depends on the type of license you purchased. Refer to License Types on page 5 for more information.

Nodelocked Licenses

To activate GeoTime online (Internet connection required):

NOTES: If your computer is configured to use a proxy server to access the Internet, GeoTime will use that information by default. In some cases, you may need to configure GeoTime to access a specific proxy server. For more information, refer to Proxy Support and Configuration on page 24.

You must have administrator permissions the first time you start GeoTime. Once activated, GeoTime does not require administrator permissions to run.

1. After installation, locate the GeoTime application shortcut in the Windows Start menu.

2. IMPORTANT: Right click on the GeoTime shortcut, then click Run as Administrator.

3. When prompted to activate, click Online Activation.

4. Type or paste the Activation ID provided by GeoTime Support into the Activation ID field.

5. Click Activate. GeoTime processes the activation.

6. When successful, GeoTime displays a window confirming the activation and license details. Click OK to finish launching GeoTime.

To activate GeoTime offline (Short Code Activation):

IMPORTANT: Offline activations are available, upon request, for ONLY those customers operating computers with no Internet access. For all other customers, online activation is the standard procedure. To enable offline activation, you must request an ASR file from GeoTime Support.

If you feel your organization has a need for an offline activation, and you have not already received information about this process, please contact GeoTime Support ([email protected]).

1. After installation, ensure that the ASR file provided by GeoTime Support is placed into the following folder:C:\Program Files\Uncharted\GeoTime-5.8.x\defaults\software.uncharted.geotime.FlexNet\clientXML

2. Locate the GeoTime application shortcut icon in the Windows Start menu.

3. IMPORTANT: Right click on the shortcut, then click Run as Administrator .

4. When prompted to activate, click Offline Activation. The GeoTime Short Code Activation window opens.

5. Contact GeoTime Support to provide the displayed Activation Request Code. To help avoid transcription errors over the telephone, consider sending an email request to [email protected] from another computer.

6. GeoTime Support provides an Activation Response Code to you.

7. Type the Activation Response Code into the field in the GeoTime Short Code Activation window.

8. Click Activate. GeoTime processes the activation.

9. When successful, GeoTime displays a window confirming the activation and license details. Click OK to finish launching GeoTime.

Concurrent Licenses

License File Option

To activate GeoTime with a license server:

1. After installation, launch GeoTime from the Windows Start menu.

2. When prompted to activate your software, click Choose License File.

3. Navigate to the location where the license.lic file is stored on your machine or on a network drive. Select the file and click Open.

4. If your server is active, accepting requests, and has a license available, GeoTime completes the launch process.

WARNING: If the license.lic file is stored in the GeoTime installation folder, then GeoTime will detect it automatically, and will not ask you to specify the location. However, if you uninstall GeoTime (i.e., prior to upgrading), the license.lic file will also be removed. If you choose this method, be sure to have a backup copy saved elsewhere.

Environment Variable Option

Instead of installing the client license.lic file on every computer, it may be more convenient for you to set an environment variable on each one that points to the GeoTime license server.

NOTE: These instructions assume you already know how to create an environment variable, and that you have the required permissions to do so.

To use the environment variable option:

1. Create an environment variable named GEOTIME_LICENSE_FILE.

2. Set the value of the variable to @MY_SERVER, where MY_SERVER is the host name of the license server.

3. (Optional) To specify a specific port to use when connecting to the license server, specify the number in the value, before the @ symbol.

4. (Optional) To direct GeoTime to read a license file at a particular file path (such as a mapped share drive), set the variable value to be that path.

EXAMPLES: Suppose that the host name of your license server is LICENSESVR.

To set up the environment variable on each computer:

l The value of your environment variable GEOTIME_LICENSE_FILE would be @LICENSESVR.

l To specify port 27001, the value would be 27001@LICENSESVR.

l To specify a shared drive path for a license file, the value could be something like V:\licenses\GeoTime\license.lic.

Returning (Transferring) a Nodelocked LicenseA license return deactivates a nodelocked copy of GeoTime on a specific computer. At the same time, GeoTime submits a request to credit the seat back to your account. This allows you to:

l use the seat on a different computer.

l reactivate on the same computer at a later time.

l upgrade your license to the latest version of GeoTime without using another purchased seat.

License Return PolicyUncharted Software Inc. policy is as follows:

l To transfer a nodelocked seat to a different computer or upgrade to a newer version of GeoTime, you must return the seat-in-use first.

l If you are unable to return the seat for any reason, and the seat is covered by an active maintenance subscription, GeoTime Support will manually credit the seat to your account one time only, per maintenance calendar year. Subsequent manual overrides are subject to a US $250 administration fee per affected seat.

l GeoTime Support will not manually return seats that are not covered by an active maintenance plan.

NOTE: For more information about upgrades, refer to Upgrading a License on page 14.

To return a license (active Internet connection required):

1. Start GeoTime.

2. After GeoTime starts, click Tools → Options.

3. Click License in the left pane.

4. Click the Return License (Online) button.

5. When prompted, click Yes to return the license. GeoTime processes your request.

6. When complete, GeoTime informs you that the license has been disabled. You must reactivate GeoTime with a valid Activation ID to use the software on that computer in the future.

To return a license that was activated offline (Short Code Activation):

This procedure applies to offline, or Short Code, activations only. For more information, refer to Activating the GeoTime License on page 9.

1. Start GeoTime.

2. After GeoTime starts, click Tools → Options.

3. Click License in the left pane.

4. Click the Return License (Short Code) button.

5. When prompted, click Yes to confirm that you wish to return the license. Once you confirm, GeoTime is disabled on that computer. The GeoTime Short Code Return window opens.

6. Contact GeoTime Support to provide the Return Request Code displayed in the window. To help avoid transcription errors over the telephone, consider sending an email request to [email protected] from another computer.

NOTE: After completing this step, you can close GeoTime. The next time you launch GeoTime, this screen displays automatically.

7. GeoTime Support provides a response code to you.

8. Type the response code into the field in the GeoTime Short Code Return window.

9. Click Return.

10. When the process completes, the license has been successfully returned. You must reactivate GeoTime to use the software on that computer in the future.

Upgrading a LicenseIf you are upgrading your copy of GeoTime to a new major release (such as 5.7, or 5.8), you will also need to upgrade the license. Smaller point releases (such as 5.7.4) do not require license upgrades if the activated license was for the same major release.

The upgrade process depends on your license type. The following table describes the license upgrade requirements. The table assumes you will be upgrading GeoTime to the most recent version, GeoTime 5.8. If you are upgrading to an older version, contact GeoTime Support for assistance.

Contact GeoTime Support to request a new license file for the same server.

Upgrading Nodelocked LicensesIf you had an active maintenance plan when the latest GeoTime version was released, you are entitled to an upgrade of all covered seats.

GeoTime Support emails an upgrade notice to all eligible customers when the new version is available. The email contains instructions for downloading the new installers. When you are ready to receive your new activation codes, email a request to [email protected]. GeoTime Support will reply with the new activation code and instructions.

If you previously activated offline, GeoTime Support will also attach a new ASR file with the new activation code.

NOTE: If you did not receive the upgrade notice, and you think you should have, please check your email application's spam or junk folder. Also, GeoTime Support may have an outdated contact on record. In either case, please contact GeoTime Support ([email protected]).

The following process is REQUIRED to upgrade all nodelocked licenses. Choose the online or offline procedure based on the method you originally used to activate GeoTime.

To upgrade a license that was activated online (active Internet connection required):

1. Start the old version of GeoTime.

2. Return the license (refer to Returning (Transferring) a Nodelocked License on page 12). GeoTime closes.

3. Uninstall all old versions of GeoTime.

4. Install the new version.

5. Start the new version of GeoTime (right-click on the shortcut, then select Run as Administrator). When prompted to activate, follow the instructions provided in Activating the GeoTime License on page 9.

Use the Upgrade Activation ID provided to you in the email.

6. Reinstall the add-ins, if needed. For more information, refer to Installing Add-Ins for ArcGIS and Microsoft Excel on page 21 and Installing the GeoTime Offline Map Pack™ on page 20.

To upgrade a license that was activated offline (Short Code Activation):

1. Start the old version of GeoTime.

2. Return the license (refer to Returning (Transferring) a Nodelocked License on page 12). You must contact GeoTime Support to process the offline return.

3. Uninstall all old versions of GeoTime.

4. Install the new version.

5. Ensure that the new ASR file is placed into the correct folder, as instructed in the upgrade notice.

6. Start the new version of GeoTime (right-click on the shortcut, then select Run as Administrator). When prompted to activate, use an offline activation as described in Activating the GeoTime License on page 9.

When you contact GeoTime Support to process the activation, specify the Upgrade Activation ID provided to you along with your Request Short Code.

7. Reinstall the add-ins, if needed. For more information, refer to Installing Add-Ins for ArcGIS and Microsoft Excel on page 21 and Installing the GeoTime Offline Map Pack™ on page 20.

Setting Up a License Server

Requirements l Access to your license server, with Administrator privileges. Only Windows servers are supported.

l GeoTimeserver.lic license file.

l Contents of the "Flex Server Setup" folder on the GeoTime installation DVD OR the contents of the GeoTime License Server Files.zip file that you downloaded.

To install the GeoTime License Server:

1. Log in to your license server with an account that has Administrator privileges.

2. Create a License Manager Directory on the server if one does not already exist. (i.e., C:\Flexnet).

3. Copy all required files to the License Manager Directory created in Step 2:

l lmgrd.exe

l oculusgt.exe

l lmtools.exe

l lmdown.exe

l GeoTimeserver.lic

NOTE: If your license server is using FlexNet licensing for another product, you can still install the GeoTime license server on the same machine. Be sure that all of the files in this step are copied to their own folder, and that the service set up does NOT refer to a similarly named file provided with another product.

Additionally, refer to the following section, Using Specific Ports, for more information on avoiding conflicts between the services.

4. Launch lmtools.exe.

5. Click on the Config Services tab. Modify the information on the tab as follows:

a. Service Name: name the service GeoTime License Manager

b. Path to the lmgrd.exe file: browse to the License Manager Directory, then select lmgrd.exe.

c. Path to the license file: browse to the License Manager Directory, then select GeoTimeserver.lic.

d. Path to the debug log file: This file does not exist yet, so specify the location and name of the desired log file. (i.e., C:\Flexnet\GeoTimeserver.log)

e. Enable the Use Services checkbox.

f. Enable the Start Server at Power Up checkbox.

6. Click Save Service, then click Yes when prompted.

7. Click the Start/Stop/Reread tab. Click to select GeoTime License Manager, then click Start Server.

8. Click the Server Status tab. Click Perform Status Inquiry.

9. Verify that the GeoTime License Manager service is running properly in the status window.

IMPORTANT: If you see an error message in the verification window, the service has not started properly. You can manually start the service in Windows using services.msc, or reboot the license server to start it.

10. Close LMTOOLS.

Using Specific PortsYou can configure your GeoTime license service to receive requests and/or send responses on specific ports:

l Requests from clients to the license service.

l Responses from the license vendor daemon to the client.

The file named lmgrd.exe is the license manager service. By default, it receives and responds to TCP requests from clients on ports 27000-27009.

After a request is processed, the license manager service tells the client to talk to the vendor daemon, oculusgt.exe. The vendor daemon handles the exchange of license information with the client through a dynamically assigned port.

NOTE: If any one of those communication paths is blocked, then the client cannot authenticate to check out a license.

To configure the license manager service (lmgrd.exe) to accept requests on a specific port:

1. Edit the license file named GeoTimeserver.lic in a text editor.

2. Add the desired port number to the end of the SERVER line, as shown in the following example. Using a number within the range of 27000-27009 is recommended.

l SERVER <server hostname> <server MAC address> <port number> l SERVER myhost 23e776268d74 27001

3. Save and exit GeoTimeserver.lic.

4. Edit license.lic (the license file that is used on each client).

5. Add the port number to the end of the SERVER line: l SERVER myhost ANY 27001

6. Save and exit license.lic. If necessary, replace the file on the client machine.

7. Reboot the license server.

8. Restart GeoTime on the client. All license checkout TCP requests will now use the specified port.

To configure the vendor daemon (oculusgt.exe) to use a specific port when responding to the cli-ent:

1. Edit the license file named GeoTimeserver.lic in a text editor.

2. Add a PORT statement to the end of the VENDOR line, as shown in the following example. l VENDOR oculusgt PORT=1234

3. Save and exit GeoTimeserver.lic.

4. Reboot the license server.

Transferring a License ServerIf you need to move your GeoTime License Server to a different machine, you may need a new license file. Please contact GeoTime Support ([email protected]) to provide the following information.

l If the new machine has a different MAC address ONLY (common for virtual machines), please request a new GeoTimeserver.lic file from GeoTime Support, specifying the new MAC address.

l If the new machine has a different Hostname and MAC address, a Software Transfer Agreement (STA) is required. This is a PDF amendment to the original license agreement that certifies the old server is decommissioned.

Please contact GeoTime Support to provide the new Hostname and MAC address. The support representative will supply the form required to complete the transfer, along with instructions.

Server Transfer PolicyUncharted Software Inc.'s License Server Transfer Policy is as follows:

l To transfer a server, the license must be covered under an active maintenance plan.

l If the server transfer involves a Hostname change, a Software Transfer Agreement (STA) must be completed prior to the issuance of a new license file.

l A server license may be transfered to another Hostname once per maintenance year for no charge. Additional transfers are subject to an administrative fee of US $250 per affected seat.

l If the server transfer involves a MAC address change only, the STA is not required, and there is no administrative fee. However, the license must still be covered under an active maintenance contract.

Installing the GeoTime Offline Map Pack™The GeoTime Offline Map Pack™ (purchased separately) provides detailed map data, including street-level information. It is an expansion that requires GeoTime to be installed first. The Offline Map Pack is provided via download or as a separate multi-DVD installer pack.

Prior to installation, ensure that GeoTime is already installed on the workstation. You do not need to uninstall older versions of the GeoTime Offline Map Pack (GOMP) prior to installing the latest version.

The GOMP Map Data Installer unpacks and copies the map data to the desired location, then configures GeoTime to refer to that location.

NOTE: GeoTime 5.8 is ready to accept the map files after installation. You no longer need to install the plug-in separately. If you need to reinstall GeoTime on the same computer, and your maps do not appear thereafter, contact GeoTime Support ([email protected]) for assistance.

To install the Map Data:

1. Insert the GeoTime Offline Map Pack DVD #1.

OR

Download all of the GOMP files, using the links in provided in the order fulfillment email. Place them all into one folder on the computer.

2. Double-click GOMP-20xx-xx-world-maps.part1.exe to launch the self-extracting archive tool.

3. The archive tool extracts the necessary files to a temporary location.

4. [DVD Installation Only] When prompted, insert additional DVDs to continue unpacking files.

5. After file extraction completes, the archive tool automatically launches the installer. When prompted to give the installer permission to run, click Yes.

6. The installer suggests a location to install the map data. You can choose an alternate location by clicking the button next to the field. If you are reinstalling the map setting, you can specify the location of existing map data. Once you have selected the correct location, click Install.

TIP: By default, the installer chooses a different location than the GeoTime installation folder. This prevents removal of map data when uninstalling GeoTime. If you choose a different location, we recommend that you do NOT use the GeoTime installation folder for map data.

For easier support and troubleshooting, we recommend using the default location suggested by the installer.

7. If map data already exists in the selected folder, the installer asks if you want to use the existing data, or overwrite it. Click Yes to overwrite, or click No to use the existing data.

8. The installer completes. Click Next, then Finish.

Installing Add-Ins for ArcGIS and Microsoft ExcelThe GeoTime installer does not automatically install the ArcGIS ArcMap or Microsoft Excel add-ins. They now have separate installers.

The following instructions step you through the process of installing the add-ins.

Where are the installers?After the GeoTime 5.8.x installation completes, the installer asks if you want to open the folder that contains the add-in installers. You can open the folder at that time, or open it in Windows later. The folder is located in:

l C:\Program Files*\Uncharted\GeoTime-5.8.x\AddInInstallers.

* Program Files (x86) if you are running the 32-bit version of GeoTime on 64-bit Windows.

The folder contains 5 subfolders: one for each extension or add-in.

Which add-ins or extensions should I install?

Enabling the ArcGIS Extension (for ArcGIS 9.3)Once installed,you must activate the extension from within ArcMap before you can use it.

To activate the GeoTime extension in ArcMap:

1. For ArcMap 9.3, click Tools → Extensions.

2. Ensure that GeoTime Extension for ArcGIS is checked. Click Close.

If the extension is installed and activated, but the toolbar is still not visible in ArcMap:

1. Right-click on an empty area in the ArcMap toolbar.

2. Ensure that GeoTime Extension for ArcGIS is enabled in the dropdown.

When the GeoTime toolbar appears,and the icons are NOT grayed out, the extension is successfully enabled.

Enabling the GeoTime Toolbar in ArcGIS (for ArcGIS 10+)Once you have installed the add-in, you may need to add the GeoTime toolbar to your ArcMap interface. To do so, you must either:

l Click Customize → Toolbars, then check to enable the GeoTime Toolbar.

OR

l Right-click on an empty area of the ArcMap toolbar, then add the GeoTime toolbar from the dropdown.

Activating the Excel Add-InUsually, installing the Excel Add-In also activates it for you, making it available in the Ribbon. However, in some cases, you may need to activate the add-in after installation.

To activate the Excel add-in:

1. Open Excel.

2. Click the Office button, then click Excel Options, then click the Add-Ins category.

3. Select COM Add-ins from the Manage dropdown, then click Go. The Add-Ins dialog box appears.

4. Enable the checkbox next to GeoTime Add-in for Excel, then click OK.

NOTE: For more information about using the ArcMap or Excel add-ins, refer to the GeoTime Help documentation. When GeoTime is started, press F1 or click Help → Help Contents to access the documentation.

Proxy Support and ConfigurationBy default, GeoTime is configured to detect proxy settings on the local system. GeoTime uses these settings for HTTP activation and Web Map Service requests that access the Internet. This setting should work for the vast majority of GeoTime installations.

In some cases, a specific proxy configuration may be necessary. This topic contains instructions for configuring a specific proxy server for GeoTime both before and after installation. Since the pre-installation procedure is more complicated, this topic presents the post-installation procedure first.

Before configuring a specific proxy server, obtain the server's IP address (YOURPROXYIP) and port number (YOURPROXYPORT) from your IT representative.

NOTE: Some steps for these procedures require you to either have Administrator-level privileges on your computer, or that you launch an application as an Administrator. Methods for doing so can vary depending on the operating system. If you have questions about your user account, or about launching applications as an Administrator, please consult your IT representative.

To configure a specific proxy server after you install GeoTime:

1. Ensure that you are logged into the computer with an Administrator account.

2. Obtain the proxy server's IP address and Port number from your IT representative. The

3. Edit C:\Program Files*\Uncharted\GeoTime-5.8\geotime.vmoptions in a text editor. If the default GeoTime installation folder was changed during installation, the geotime.vmoptions file is in that location. You must launch the text editor as an Administrator.* for 32-bit installations, this could be ...\Program Files (x86)\...

4. Remove the line: -Djava.net.useSystemProxies=true

5. At the bottom, add the following lines:

l -Dhttp.proxyHost=YOURPROXYIP

l -Dhttp.proxyPort=YOURPROXYPORT

6. Save the geotime.vmoptions file, then restart GeoTime.

To configure a specific proxy server before you install GeoTime:

1. Copy the GeoTime Setup file to a folder.

2. Create a new text file in the same folder named GeoTimeProxy.vmoptions.

NOTE: If you create the file in Windows Explorer, you must rename it from a command prompt to remove the .txt suffix.

3. Edit the GeoTimeProxy.vmoptions file to contain the following two lines:

l -Dhttp.proxyHost=YOURPROXYIP (use -Dhttps if you require SSL)

l -Dhttp.proxyPort=YOURPROXYPORT (use -Dhttps if you require SSL)

4. Save the GeoTimeProxy.vmoptions file.

5. Run the GeoTime Setup file to install GeoTime. As long as the GeoTimeProxy.vmoptions file is in the same directory as the Setup file, the installer uses it to configure the specific proxy server.

To configure GeoTime to use no proxy at all (as in GeoTime 5.4 and prior):

1. Select one of the prior procedures to configure GeoTime either before or after installation.

2. If configuring after installation:

a. Edit the geotime.vmoptions file.

b. If present, remove the line: -Djava.net.useSystemProxies=true

c. If present, remove the line: -Dhttp.proxyHost=YOURPROXYIP

d. If present, remove the line: -Dhttp.proxyPort=YOURPROXYPORT

e. Save the geotime.vmoptions file and restart GeoTime.

3. If configuring before installation:

a. Create a geotime.vmoptions file that is in the same directory as the GeoTime Setup file.

b. Ensure that there is no content in the file.

c. Save the geotime.vmoptions file, then run the GeoTime Setup file.

To configure username/password authentication for your proxy:

1. Edit the geotime.vmoptions file.

2. At the end of the file, add the following lines:

l -Dhttp.proxyUser=YOURUSERNAME

l -Dhttp.proxyPassword=YOURPASSWORD
