Greetings

The Geranium Primary School students, staff and two brave parents experienced the

Whole School Camp to Adelaide from Wednesday to Friday last week. This Newsletter

has the focus on the Camp with the range of activities and learning experiences that

made it a very busy and enjoyable three days.

There is a list of people to say a Big Thank you to for enabling the Camp to be such a

success; Teachers Lorelle Barton, Kathryn Roberts; School Services Officers Sue Jacob

and Michelle Hensel, and the brave parents, Amanda Schmidt and Leigh Oster.

Special thank you goes to every student who was on the Camp. They were great

participants; helping each other, following instructions and generally sleeping when

they were supposed to.

This week is Book Week which this year has the theme; ‘Reading is Our Secret Power’.

Schools all across Australia are getting involved. At Geranium Primary School on

Tuesday 20 August we had an Assembly, everyone dressed in costumes, a morning tea

and lots of reading. It’s extremely important that each child has stories read to them at

home and lots of age appropriate reading material around the home. A love of reading

is a great gift to encourage in your children, and will be of great value to them

throughout their lives.

We are now in the second half of Term 3 so there is a lot of teaching and learning

coming up. Some of the activities coming up are a whole school visit on Tuesday 27

August to Coomandook Area School to visit the classes who are preparing animals for

the upcoming Royal Adelaide Show.

Further on in the term the School Governing Council will be meeting on Wednesday 11

September and in the last week, an Assembly and Genius Fair on Tuesday 24

September.

As always the students and staff of Geranium Primary School value the continued

support and involvement of parents, families and the local community. Together we can

achieve ‘Learning for all, Learning for Life’.

Writer’s Corner

Site Improvement Plan Goal 1: Improve student achievement in writing, with a focus on vocabulary.

All about Camp…..

Camp was fun. We went to Cirkidz. We had to

do a trust fall. It was so high and scary. The

tramps were fun and at the end of the tramp

we would do a big belly flop and it hurt. The

Marion Aquatic Centre was fun. The bucket

was so big and it hurt when the water hit you.

The water slide was fast for little kids

Tom

It was great. I loved going to Cirkidz. I liked

doing the trust fall and jumping on the

trampoline and doing flips. We also went

to the zoo. I liked learning all about how

lizards have colour in their skin unless they

are albino. It was great to see lots of

animals. I liked seeing the Chameleon . It

was cool to see it change colour. It was the

best school camp I ever went on!

Jack

On camp I liked Cirkidz the best because we got to go on

trampolines and there was a foam pit and a clown bike. The

clown bike was red and it was very small. On the tramps

when we could go in the foam pit I did a back flip into the

foam pit. I also liked the Aquatic Centre because there was

a slide and a bucket that dumped water on you.

Charlie

On camp we went to Cirkidz, Adelaide Zoo, Marion Aquatic Centre

and the Captain’s Cottage Museum in Murray Bridge. My favourite

was the Captain’s Cottage museum because I got to see a lot of old,

cool, historical things. I really loved the old coins that we got to see

on the way out. There were half pennies, pennies, shillings, three

pence and six pence. My second favourite thing was the Adelaide

Zoo. I loved seeing all the different species of animals. My

favourite was the Chameleon, I had never seen one before and it

looked really funny with the little mohawk!. Overall I really loved

camp.

Oscar

On camp the first thing we did was go pack and

get on the bus. On Thursday we got dressed to

go to the zoo. We ate recess and lunch there.

We saw crocodiles, pandas, hippopotamus and

monkeys and also siamangs.

Zeb

On the first day of camp we went

to Cirkidz. We went on trapeze,

trampolines and at the end we

made a human pyramid. On the

second day we went to the zoo.

It was fun and I liked the reptile

house. We saw snakes, lizards,

lions, tigers, serval, fenec fox,

pandas and siamang apes. On the

last day we went to the Captain’s

Cottage at Murray Bridge, there

was lots of farm stuff.

Shianne

On Thursday we went to the

Adelaide Zoo and the JP’s did

an activity about poo and the

MUP’s did an activity about

adaptations. We got to see

meerkats, monkeys, hyenas,

lions, serval, reptiles, pandas

and the tapir. When we were

eating our lunch a raven stole

Gemma’s lunch!

Matilda

The camp beds

were comfortable. I

liked playing Ping-

Pong the best when

we were at the

camp site.

Claire

(A snapshot of a long report!) We left school at

9am, on the bus everyone was excited to get

there but some people just calmed down or

just went to sleep. We had lunch at a local

park and our Cirkidz session started at 12.30,

Cirkidz was basically a centre for doing circus

tricks. We had spaghetti bolognaise and

neapolitan ice cream for tea. At 8pm we

brushed our teeth and went to sleep, the girls

dormitory was reasonably quiet if you don’t

count the little kids snoring or talking in their

sleep!

Tonisha

At camp me and the class put everything in

the trailer and after a minute or a second we

all hopped on the bus. It took an hour or two

to get there. When we got to our camp we

grabbed all our stuff out of the trailer and

made our beds. For dinner we had spaghetti

bolognaise, it was yum. For dessert we had an

ice-cream cone. We played games after

dessert, it was guess the song and questions.

After the game we got into our pj’s and went

to bed.
