WhatIs
Science?How isScienceDone?
Pages 24 & 25: Scientists make quantitative and qualitative observations. They then make inferences based on those observations. They use the observations as empirical evidence.
Pages 26 & 27: Science can change when new information is discovered. It is self correcting. It never PROVES anything.
Pages 28 & 29: Science starts with observations. Then you make a hypothesis (a prediction) and test it to collect data. You revise the hypothesis and repeat as needed. Finally, you share!
Science helps us understand the natural world. It assumes that the world works according to rules that do not change unpredictably. Theories are “big
picture” science ideas that have been tested over and over and haven’t been proven wrong yet.
Pages 30 & 31: Only one independent variable is changed at a time in a controlled experiment. Everything else stays the same.

2. Neat and organized?
Notebooks…1. Fill in sections about topics that
made sense and topics that you are still unsure about.
2. You can explain on front or back what you like about ISNs and what you don’t like.
3. Keep in mind we’re not getting rid of them. But you can make suggestions for changes.
Test review…1. Should you eat and drink in the lab?2. Should you place materials near the edge of
your desk?3. Should you wear safety goggles during lab?4. Should you drink from lab beakers?5. Should you clean up your lab materials at the
end of class?6. Are closed toe shoes or flip flops better to
wear during a lab?7. Should you smell something directly from a
beaker?8. Should you dump all lab chemicals down the
sink?
Test review…1. You will work as a lab group to come to an
agreement about what the diagnostic test answers were.
2. It’s not good enough to just write an answer down. Do you understand why it’s the answer? Help each other!
3. Use your ISNs, especially the Aha Connections.
4. We will review answers together. I will call on you to give your answer and possibly an explanation. (What makes the other choices wrong?)
