Glendalough Hermitage Centre

Glendalough – the valley of the two lakes – has always attracted people because of its unique blend of solitude and natural beauty. It is easy to understand why St. Kevin came here as a hermit, and later chose to build his monastery here.

Glendalough Hermitage Centre was built in the Jubilee Year 2000 so that this remarkable spiritual resource might be more readily accessible to busy men and women of the 21st century.

“I will lead her into the desert and there I will speak to her heart”

- Hos 2:14

Glendalough Hermitage Centre offers short and long-term accommodation. Guests at the hermitage can avail of the following:

• Morning Prayer and Evening Reflection

• Prayer Guidance in the ancient tradition of Anamchara (soul-friend)

• Daily Mass (except when the priest is away)

• A Meditation Garden designed for

contemplation outdoors

• Pilgrim walks / retreat days for small groups(by prior arrangement)

There are five modern purpose-built hermitages situated in a secluded area about fifty metres from St. Kevin’s Church. Single and twin occupancy hermitages are available. Accom-modation is provided on a self-catering basis.

Inside each hermitage you will find a:

• Spacious living room

• Kitchenette

• Shower

Towels and bed linen are provided. Each hermitage has an electric blanket and hair dryer. Electric storage heating is included in the cost, and provision is made for an open fire/stove. A prayer room and a well stocked library are available to pilgrims in the main building.

Mini-markets and restaurants are available within five minutes walk of the Hermitage Centre. The Glendalough Monastic Site is one kilometre (ten minutes walk) away.

The Hermitage Centre is well placed for access to a large network of walks, including the Wicklow Way and St. Kevin’s Way. We recommend that you bring clothing suitable for all weathers. We can have all four seasons in one day.
