  • Introduction | Connecting to Security Center

    • Log on with Windows credentials. If Security Center is integrated with Window Active Directory, then you will be logged on to Security Desk through your Windows user account. Security Center will not ask you for a username and password. With this con-nection method, you cannot edit the username or password, as it will be taken from the current Windows session.

    • Log on with supervision. Both you and your supervisor must provide a username and password to connect to the Security Center server.

Logging offYou disconnect from Security Center without closing the application:

    • From the Home page click Log off. This disconnects you from the Directory, but doesn’t close the application. Use this command when you plan to log on again using a different username and password.

    The Security Desk user interface

Security Desk uses tabbed windows so you can easily open and access many tasks as once. You can switch between tasks by simply clicking on a different tab. You can create any number of tasks within the application, based on your needs and privileges.

The Security Desk’s window contains the taskbar and the task workspace.

Common UI elementsFor the most tasks, the task workspace is typically divided into several panes. Each of them can be resized, collapsed, or hidden. The most common panes are illustrated below:

To resize the panes, click the resize handle and drag it in the direction you want.

    Selector

The selector is a pane in the task workspace that may contain one or more sets of tools (each shown in a separate tab) that allow you to find and select the entities you want to work with. The selector can be collapsed (click ), or hidden (press F6).

    Logical view

The Logical view is a common tab found in the selector of almost all tasks. The Logical view shows the entities that you can display in the canvas in the form of a hierarchy, or entity tree. To view any entity in the tree, you can double-click or drag and drop the entity from the logical view to the canvas.

The hierarchy illustrates where the system devices (doors, elevators, cameras, etc.) are located in the system by showing their relationship with areas. For example, the doors leading to an area, and other devices located within the area, are shown as “child entities” of that area (below that area in the hierarchy). Likewise, cameras used to monitor doors are shown underneath these doors in the hierarchy.

    Canvas

The canvas is the pane in the task workspace used to view and control multimedia information, such as videos, area maps, road maps, cardholder pictures, and so on.

The canvas contains two panels (or sections) that can be resized, collapsed, or hidden. A canvas menu, with canvas commands can be opened by clicking the little triangle on the canvas tab.

The two panels (Tiles/Map and Dashboard) are described as follows:

    • Tiles/Map. This is the main panel within the canvas, and the only one that cannot be hidden. You can switch between two display modes: Tiles. In Tiles mode, the display panel is divided into individual windows called tiles.

The arrangement of the tiles within this panel is called the tile pattern.

To change the tile pattern, open the canvas menu and click . To synchronize, in time, the video (live or playback) displayed in all tiles, open the

    canvas menu and click .

To remove all entities displayed in tiles, open the canvas menu and click .

This alter-nate canvas display mode is available for the Monitoring tasks, and some AutoVu-specific tasks where road maps are required. The map for AutoVu will open centered on the location previously configured in the LPR settings.

    • Dashboard. The dashboard contains the widgets (commands and status information) associated to the entity displayed in the current tile, which is highlighted with a yellow border. You may show or hide the dashboard by pressing F7.

Depending on the nature of the selected task, the report pane or the canvas may be absent. You can alternate between collapsing one of these two panes, or showing them both by pressing F9.

  • 3Viewing a camera

If your system has many cameras, you won't be able to view them all at once. But as a security operator, if someone reports that a car is being stolen from the parking lot, you'll need to quickly find the parking lot camera, and flag the recording. If the camera is a PTZ camera, you may want to control its motor and move it around.

In this section, you'll learn how to find and display a camera. You'll also learn about the different tools you can use to view and control the video.

This section includes the following topics:

    What is a tile?

A tile is used to display a single entity. The following is a tile showing a camera.

1 Open the canvas menu by clicking the canvas tab itself ( ).2 Click found in the canvas menu.3 Click one of the four equal tile patterns presented.(Optional) Click on the More button to choose from the full list of 26 different tile patterns. They range between 1 big tile to 64 little tiles.

Unpack tile contentSome entities displayed in tiles are composite entities. A composite entity is an entity composed of two or more entities. For example, in a Security Center access control and video surveillance system, you can have multiple cameras associated to a single door. The door is a composite entity because multiple entities (the cameras) are associated to it.

If you are monitoring the door and an event occurs at the door, you can view one camera, or all cameras associated to that door.By default, an event at the door displays only one camera because the multiple entities are packed. But you can unpack the entity, you would see all the entities in separate tiles.

To unpack a tile:1 In the tile, click the eye icon on the toolbar at the top of the tile.2 From the list, select one of the following:

EXAMPLE In the following example, the Main Entrance door has two cameras associated to it, the Main Entrance camera and the Front Hallway camera. An access denied event occurs at the main door, so the event is displayed in a tile. Since the tile is packed, only one camera is displayed:

However, by clicking the eye beside the camera’s name, you can see the attached entities. From the drop-down list, you can choose to view the Main Entrance camera or the Front Hallway camera, to unpack the tile and view both entities in separate tiles, or to start cycling and have them alternate within the tile.

Responding to alarmsThe purpose of an alarm is to attract someone’s attention to an event. Any event can be used as an alarm trigger. The presence of motion, a door forced open, or a change of state on a contact are often used as alarm triggers.

NOTE It is up to your system administrator to define the events that will be used to trigger your alarms.

Alarms are sent to users logged on to Security Desk. When an alarm is triggered, you must be named as an alarm recipient in the alarm’s configuration to receive the alarm. When you receive an alarm in Security Desk, the following happens:

    • The alarm icon in the notification tray turns red and displays the number of active alarms in your Security Desk.

    and,

    • The Alarm monitoring task opens and the report pane and canvas both show the alarm. When you select the tile displaying the alarm, the alarm widget appears:

When you receive an alarm, examine the alarm video. If necessary, click the playback cursor on the timeline, and drag it to the left to replay what has just been recorded.Click one of the appropriate buttons in the alarm widget to respond to your alarm.

    Creating an incident report

Some alarms cannot be acknowledged without first creating incident report. An incident report is a special entry into the database that contains some text and can include events and entities as supporting material. They are used to document “what happened?” for a given event.

A Acknowledge (Default). Click to make the alarm go away.

B Snooze the alarm. Click to snooze the alarm (by default, for one minute)

C Show alarm procedure. Click to view the alarm procedure (if one has been configured)
